Loving Cup: A Novel of Cornwall 1813-1815
Loving Cup: A Novel of Cornwall 1813-1815 | Winston Graham
5 posts | 12 read | 5 to read
A silver cup lies half-forgotten in a dank cave amongst a pile of stolen goods. Yet the tiny vessel and its inscription--"Amor gignit amorem"--haunts the lives of the feuding Poldark and Warleggan families, as Ross, Demelza, and the ambitious and powerful Sir George Warleggan watch their children make the decisions that will shape their destinies. For Jeremy and Clowance, and for arrogant, cynical Valentine Warleggan, these are troubled and momentous times.

Prisk Cove in Cornwalll, would love to be there today. #VirtualTour

How has Wednesday been? Busy day interviewing teacher trainee. Also virtual training, carrying out audit of curriculum and meeting staff re issues or for advert for SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordination). Now exhausted. Get tired so easily at the moment.

#DailyCheckIn

TrishB The tiredness is cumulative, because you never rest properly. I‘m keeping my fingers crossed for Christmas. I had a good day (I know!) got made a director after my appraisal (but no money) and my COVID test was negative 😁😁 3y
TrishB I wish I was looking at that sea though! 3y

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I'm about to pack up my stuff & head home since the negative result finally came back. I left my apartment to take grandma home last Tuesday so I'm ready to sleep in my own bed tonight! @TrishB Happy to hear your good news! 3y
Andrew65 @TrishB Much great news, congratulations. But no money 🤷‍♂️😡 Agree, never any rest, always on duty! 3y
IamIamIam @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @TrishB Congrats to both of you!! Great news is so nice to hear! Things are weird over here... NYC schools went full remote and my county is going district by district. No cases in our elementary or middle where my kids are, but 2 other elems and the high school. I'm better, walked around Target today & I'm sewing adjustable bands on new masks... big fun!!! 3y
Andrew65 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick That‘s a long trip! But great news 😁 3y
TheBookHippie Beautiful pictures!! Day one of virtual here, I need a long nap. It is draining. Everyone is in good spirits and no glitches so we will be thankful for all of those things. 🤍 sending you light! We‘re in for the long haul.. 3y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie What happens if not able to access, or just don‘t join in? 3y
TheBookHippie @TrishB YAY!!!! I agree about the tiredness 😩 glad your results are good!! 3y
kezzlou85 Been a quiet one sorting out meals and figuring out bits for Christmas. Plus daughter got her first scam text so she was so happy lol. Shows she's grown up apparently. 3y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 yup you don‘t join in ... we have buses with extra WiFi sitting by neighborhoods and apartment complexes to get a boost and or free WiFi -a second bus at each place has food for them. It‘s all coordinated and there is one by my house so as the kids walk to pick up bags of food they can grab pancakes off my step for breakfast. 3y
Andrew65 So are most joining in? Sounds very well organised? Speaking to one school who had to shut bubble and only 6 children joined in live lesson! 3y
TrishB @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick thank you 😊 good news for you too- you‘ve waited long enough. I put mine in the post last night at 5pm and got result at 8pm today. 3y
TrishB @Andrew65 no money this year for anything from appraisals. I wanted to give one of my team a reward, told her she‘ll get it next year, as I will hopefully! 3y
TrishB @IamIamIam glad you got out a bit today 😁 3y
TrishB @TheBookHippie thank you 😘 3y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 we had 99 percent today!!!!! So excited. Phew. Spring was fifty percent 😭😭 3y
CBee @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick yay for a negative result 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 3y
Andrew65 @TrishB 🤞🤞🤞🤞 3y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie That‘s brilliant. Do you know how long you will be out? 3y
CocoReads Busy day everywhere it seems. No new news, good or bad. Cancelled family thanksgiving last night. Crossing our fingers that we may be able to salvage some sort of Christmas but I‘m not holding my breath. 3y
CocoReads That‘s what our schools did in the spring. Parked busses in the low income neighborhoods for WiFi. I think@last night our school board voted to carry on in person (🤦‍♀️utter madness) but some of the private schools went virtual, unfortunately my sisters school was not one of them. 3y
TheSpineView Unlike you, my day was slow. I actually wrote another book review. While being slow at work is nice it is also a double edged sword. I rarely work a full week and that means less pay. So over 2020! 3y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 December 8. IF things look good we go back. 3y
TheBookHippie @CocoReads It‘s going pretty well 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 3y
Andrew65 @CocoReads We have been ever present at school since the beginning of September. Wish our government had done something similar re Wi-fi. If schools not shit through the past four six weeks can not see them doing it! 3y
Andrew65 @TheSpineView Join you in that sentiment! 3y
CocoReads @Andrew65 not every district can do it. South Bend is a fairly decent sized city with the resources and capability. But smaller towns maybe not. 3y
Andrew65 @CocoReads As far as I‘m aware no effort made by our government. 3y
tracey38 Busy day at work. Going to be busier the rest of the week. Also training someone and that's tiring. But overall, not so bad. Got very cold this week, too. Just trying to hang in there. 3y
tracey38 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick yay, finally!!! I'm so glad you got negative results and get to go home. 💛 3y
Lynnsoprano Bad day with my knee, lots of pain, probably because I pushed it. On the plus side, our new mattress was delivered and it feels wonderful. @Andrew65 hope you can get some rest and take care of yourself. It sounds like you are putting a lot of things ahead of self care. One lesson I‘ve learned is that you can‘t be there for others if you don‘t take care of yourself. 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @tracey38 @CBee @IamIamIam Thank you for checking in on me! My dog had a good level of excitement when I came home but my boyfriend left me a mess to clean. 😢 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Lynnsoprano I hope you're knee feels better tomorrow. 💛 3y
CBee @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick aw no!! Not cool 😕😕 At least there was plenty of doggie love ❤️ 3y
CBee @CocoReads I wish more people would heed advice and cancel big family gatherings. I know it‘s so hard, but it‘s just so important. 3y
Lynnsoprano @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Thanks 😊 It does, but still a long way to go. I need to be patient, something that‘s hard for me. 3y

Mehso-so

In relation to the rest of the series, this is more of a so-so for me. Although to be honest, it's because a couple of characters did things I didn't entirely approve of 😬 The writing was fine as always, and I liked the references to the War of 1812. Onward to The Twisted Sword!

I read this book whilst caring for my son with chicken pox. I had to ignore A LOT of children‘s TV in the background, so that may have had an affect on my enjoyment of this book.

I‘m fully committed to this series (this is book 10!), but while still a Pick I found it to be the least satisfying book of the series so far.

I still love this world and will carry on. Maybe it was just hearing the Teletubbies theme tune too many times? 🤪

LeahBergen Yikes. That would send anyone over the edge. 😆 6y
kspenmoll Teletubbies!!! That will do it! 🤣 6y
BookNAround Again again. 🤣 6y
Libby1 @LeahBergen , @kspenmoll , @BookNAround - AGAIN AGAIN! 🤢🤒😫🤪 6y

Pageturner.Cliffhanger Am a few books behind you: just started Wareleggan. Do you have a favourite book in the series so far? 6y
Scfreads @Pageturner.Cliffhanger The whole series is great, but books Five (and Six) and Eleven were standouts for me. I‘m on Book Twelve, and I‘m sad to finish the series! How are you liking the books so far? 6y
Pageturner.Cliffhanger @Scfreads Just finished #4 and loved it! The most action-packed so far. I am quite captivated by these books. 6y

Pageturner.Cliffhanger @Scfreads Are you watching the series as well? I have seen just episode. It looks lavish and well done, but I want to read the books first. 6y
Scfreads @Pageturner.Cliffhanger Yes, I am watching the series- it is indeed lavish and well done! I decided to start reading the books after finishing season 1 of the show! 😀 6y
Pageturner.Cliffhanger @Scfreads And, do you the adaptation is faithful to the books so far? In the details and in spirit? 6y
Scfreads @Pageturner.Cliffhanger Oh, yes! It stays very much true to the books! Just some small deviations here and there. 6y

Took me a little longer to get through The Loving Cup, I think it just took a while to get going, still enjoyed it, especially the last few chapters. Can't wait to see how this series ends! #poldark

Libby1 I just finished book 6 last week. I adore this series. 💕 7y
