"Gory and campy horror, perfect for the Halloween season." -Kirkus Reviews The #murder and mayhem continue in this prequel companion novel to the grisly, campy social media insanity that is #MurderTrending and #MurderFunding. Gretchen McNeil brings her signature wit and merciless kills to this gruesome yet hilarious, wildly topical young adult novel. Escape rooms are all fun and games...until the contestants start dying gruesome deaths. Seventeen-year-old Persey feels worthless much of the time. Her parents prefer her smarter, more enigmatic big brother to her, and she can't quite seem to succeed-let alone fit in-at school. But there is one thing she's good at: escape rooms. So when she's invited to compete in an escape room competition that carries a prize worth millions, Persey is all over it. Persey enters the competition along with seven other young contestants, but while most escape rooms are about teamwork and collaboration, this one is all about being cut-throat-literally. When contestants start getting killed off, Persey must solve a series of bizarre and gruesome puzzles, riddles, and games to make it out alive. Along the way she learns the contestants are mysteriously connected-and someone is out for vengeance. Twenty years before Dee Guerra and the Death Row Breakfast Club took down The Postman and Alcatraz 2.0 in #MurderTrending, long before Becca survived The Juggernaut and Who Wants to Be a Painiac? in #MurderFunding, the murder games first began with one awful day at Escape-Capades, Ltd.? And there's no telling who might have made it out alive, or what they may have later become.

17-year-old Persephone (Persey) struggles to live up to her perfect older brother, so when she is the first player to solve a supposedly unsolvable escape room & is invited to take part in the ultimate competition to win millions of dollars, she hesitantly accepts. 8 contestants are flown to Las Vegas to take part in the contest, & tension is high with the prize money at stake. (continued)

OutsmartYourShelf When the competition starts it becomes clear that this is no ordinary escape room, but one with life or death consequences.

For me, this was the best book of the three. I love books set around escape rooms & this was a belter. I'm not gonna say any more than that as it's a read you don't want the merest hint of a spoiler for. 4.5🌟

Ooo, I really liked this one. It deviated from the first 2 (which I really enjoyed a lot better), but this one kept time guessing throughout too. Finished this while laying in bed with my JuJuB.

I‘m planning on spending the whole weekend binge-reading for my duties on the Rainbow Book List Committee. I‘m starting off the morning with this mystery/thriller, #noescape. It‘s the latest in the #murdertrending series - but it‘s actually a prequel! I haven‘t read the other two books, but this stands on its own just fine.

LibrarianRyan This was quite fun. I agree it stands on its own and you don‘t need to read the first two. But you should. #murdertrending is such gory fun. 4y

This book may not have been what I wanted, but it was what I needed. I wanted the end to the trilogy and to have all my questions answered. Instead I got something better, and another wait for book 4. This book is back to form for McNeal. It has all the excitement and the guessing of #Murdertrending, but none of the things that caused #Murderfunding to suffer from a second book slump.

LibrarianRyan This time, we are trapped with contestants in an Escape Room that no one is meant to escape. I had most the main points figured out close to figured by 2/3s in, but I loved how it all came together that had my mind going “oh s*#&, oh s*#&. The only thing I hate is the wait for book 4. I‘m on pins and needles and want to know what can possibly come next. 4y
LibrarianRyan This book contains lots of blood and guts, just like I wanted, and will make any fan of the first book happy, and newbies entertained.

This book was smart! (Like seriously smart.) This escape room tale delivered everything I was hoping for & more with plenty of imagination, a high body count, & a twist that I feel like I should have seen coming but didn‘t. My only complaint is that it was branded as the third book in the #murdertrending series, & a prequel at that, even though it really had nothing to do with the other two books & was more than strong enough to be a standalone.

That‘s where it ends!!!!

This was a return to form. Book 2 was a little slow but book three was great. But now I have to wait for a book 4 uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Reviews and points later.

You I am doing #october20in4 readathon. I have about 45 minutes in already on the audiobook Ignite the sun.

My goals: finish tagged book. Read Disney chills 1. Buy Disney chills 2, finish Ignite the sun. Because I am doin so many readathon that start and end on different days I will be keeping track daily and will start each new day back at zero. Thank goodness I like math. #teamharkness #scarathlon2020 #screamathon2020

1. murder, game, government, escape, painiac (read the book to know what that one means)
2. Hummm hard. Probably lip balm. I don't see how people can let theirs get so chapped. Mine hurt just looking at it.
3. I would rather go forward to see what we can become, even though I do like the idea of traveling back in time to right wrongs. Like Quantum leap but on a bigger scale.

Eggs I like going forward; however we have no other choice so we might as well like it💁🏼‍♀️ 4y

I was highly irked Tuesday when I went to pick up new releases. My BN has NONE of them but the new JKR. Ugh. As of today they only got the 2 I have posted in the picture. No legendborn yet. I had to look everywhere to find Sea and it turns out it was ONLY behind the counter not even one on the shelf where it belonged. Ughhh. The only bright spot, they actually got in the tagged book. It‘s #murdertrending 3. Looking forward to finishing the series

Twainy I agree!! At my my B&N I was unable to run in and grab it off of a New Release shelf! Had to run upstairs to the Manga & Sci-Fi/Fantasy sections. This will probably be an unpopular opinion but I miss Borders. 🤗 4y
Lissa00 Started the Paolini this morning and really like it so far. 4y
LibrarianRyan @Twainy my BN was better before lockdown. But the water stones purchase happened around that time. It was supposed to make things better. And it made them worse. 4y

Twainy What‘s this about Waterstones? I wish there were Waterstones‘ editions at my B&N. I normally only buy the B&N special editions at B&N. This month‘s stress buying must stop, I‘m thinking about cutting up my B&N card 😆 So really, Waterstones? 4y
LibrarianRyan @Twainy yeah. Water stones bought out BN. The CEO was moving from U.K. to US and planning on using a similar model he used to bring water stones around to turn BN around. The stores were susposed to be able to act more like Indy book stores but I have yet to see it. 4y
Twainy That‘s interesting. The shelves/collections have moved around this year so I‘m going to have to take a closer look. I support a section for UK versions of books!! 4y
TracyReadsBooks Hopefully you get your hands on Legendborn soon. It‘s a great book! 4y
