Star Wars: The Fallen Star (The High Republic)
Star Wars: The Fallen Star (The High Republic): (Star Wars: The High Republic Book 3) | Claudia Gray
17 posts | 11 read | 3 to read
In this gripping sequel to Star Wars: The Rising Storm, the light of the Jedi faces its darkest hour. Time and again, the vicious raiders known as the Nihil have sought to bring the golden age of the High Republic to a fiery end. Time and again, the High Republic has emerged battered and weary, but victorious thank to its Jedi protectors-and there is no monument to their cause grander than the Starlight Beacon. Hanging like a jewel in the Outer Rim, the Beacon embodies the High Republic at the apex of its aspirations: a hub of culture and knowledge, a bright torch against the darkness of the unknown, and an extended hand of welcome to the furthest reaches of the galaxy. As survivors and refugees flee the Nihil's attacks, the Beacon and its crew stand ready to shelter and heal. The grateful Knights and Padawans of the Jedi Order stationed there finally have a chance to recover-from the pain of their injuries and the grief of their losses. But the storm they thought had passed still rages; they are simply caught in its eye. Marchion Ro, the true mastermind of the Nihil, is preparing his most daring attack yet-one designed to snuff out the light of the Jedi.

📚📚📚 This took me 3 months to read. It shouldn‘t have because it‘s action heavy, Jedi-centric, and has good bones as far as THR plots go - it took so long because it‘s boring expositional dumping; all tell and no show. I wasn‘t connected to any character, I didn‘t feel the urgency of the situation. Not a favorite but it should‘ve been. 🙁 #starwarsbuddyread

BookwormAHN Sometimes you just don't connect with them 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2mo
TieDyeDude Same! I read everything from the first phase of the High Republic, and there was just no focus. Interesting stories, interesting characters, but just too much new with nothing to anchor to. And such a downer of an ending with no indication of any hope. Disappointing. 2mo

5th book read during #SuperSeptember @Andrew65 I struggle a little bit with this one in the first chapters, but it was my fault because I‘m reading it out of order. So I needed to look in Google who was who, but after that, it was a quick and fun reading. I was like watching a movie. Few good characters died😢I want to know what is going to happen next. But why they didn‘t follow the force instinct?🤔3.8⭐️

Gissy #StarWarsBuddyRead @BookwormAHN I need to read the first two books. I will order them I maybe during winter I can read them🤗

I think this qualify for #Space Opera #NoShameReadathon22 or #HardSci-Fi? Let me know please @nessavamusic

BookwormAHN I think that would help if you read the first two but I'm glad you enjoyed it. Also it could be either space opera or hard sci-fi. I believe I used different Star Wars books for each 😺 4mo
Gissy @BookwormAHN Thank you for the recommendations🤗 4mo

Geez, what a bummer. So, no secret if you've seen any promotional material for this series, but the Nihil destroy Starlight Beacon. This book takes place in the few hours that encompass the event. The book is fine, plenty of action and twists, but Star Wars has always been about hope, and since they are going back in time for the next span of material, it is odd to end on such a downer. Not even an inspirational speech, just despair.

Just as it happened with Thrawn, I liked the third part of the series the best. Still not my favourite (to many things happening, to many characters), but I was rooting for our heroes and felt with them. Gray has enough writing skills to make the best out of it with no doubt.

Now I really wish for many characters to get their own books, so we can get to know them better (Burryaga, Geode).

TracyReadsBooks Agreed! I thought this was the best one too. 4mo
BookwormAHN Also agree, third times the charm. 4mo

This is the 3rd book in The High Republic series. In this one Marchion Ro has plans to destroy Starlight Beacon, which he successfully puts into motion. This book is rather creepy and somewhat claustrophobic but good. I loved Burryaga the Wooki padowan 🧡

There isn't anything bad about this book exactly, I'm just not vibing with the series. I find it hard to remember who everyone is or what is going on.

September #starwarsbuddyread @BookwormAHN

BookwormAHN I know the feeling. The stories are good but there are only about 3 or 4 characters I can remember and keep straight. Also I think I enjoy the MG books in this series the best. 4mo

Greetings everyone, September is here, so it's time to jump back into the new republic era with The Fallen Star.
But before that what did everyone think of a Lesser Evil? I really enjoyed it. It was my favorite of the Ascendancy trilogy. I hope there will be some more Thrawn books. I'm going to miss the blue guy.
As always if someone would like to be added or removed just let me know. And May the Force Be With You!

Here are the next books for our #StarWarsBuddyRead The first 3 are High Republic era, the next 2 head us back to the Clone Wars, then on to the Skywalkers, next the marriage of Leia & Han and finally the prequel for the Rise of Skywalker.
And that -for now- concludes the new cannon, unless I missed one. Next we'll move on to some of the Legends.
As always if anyone wants to be added or removed just let me know And May The Force Be With You!

10/10:
I cannot believe everything that Claudia manages to accomplish in this novel. The amount of emotion and realism depicted throughout is astounding and there are so many moments that genuinely broke my heart. Needless to say, I‘m crying after finishing this.

This was disappointing. I usually love Gray‘s writing but this seemed too long and was just…sad. I felt like it was a lot of hurt for not a lot of payoff. Stellan was irritating most of the time and it never gave the big mysterious payoff. Just so so for me.

7/150 While I don't think it was as good as The Rising Storm, I enjoyed this a great deal. Not to spoil the plot, the Jedi are forced to fight for their survival as Nihil saboteurs cripple a major Jedi base. Sadly some of the characters I'd come to like did not survive, but it gave a nice touch of realism to see the Jedi fail for all too human reasons. 4 💥💥💥💥 1/2

Fun read if you're a fan of Star Wars. Even if you‘re not. High stakes, lots of action, a villain with an epic plan, and once again, a reminder that an overreliance on the Force is never good. The only bummer about the book is the wait we have before we learn what happens next—with the announcement that the next phase of The High Republic storyline will take place 150 years before the current one, the wait is going to be hard.

First book mail of the new year. I‘ve really enjoyed The High Republic books—a fun expansion of the Star Wars universe written by some familiar names from Charles Soule, Cavan Scott and Claudia Gray to YA and MG powerhouses like Daniel José Older and Justina Ireland. Best of all, my son will also read Star Wars and when he does, we have the BEST book talks.
