I really liked this spooky graphic novel about an artist who locks herself away in a haunted house. She wanted a space to push herself artistically and create something new. What she discovers takes her to even darker depths than she expected.
Perfection.
Are these the most beautiful comic covers I have ever seen? Maybe. They certainly rank up there. I think these will likely find a place hanging on my wall.
I should also say they do an incredible job capturing the mood, mystery, and romance of the comic.

Reading The Haunting of Hill House got me thinking about the Bram Stoker Award nominated The Me You Love in the Dark by Skottie Young (writer) & Jorge Corona (artist). So of course I had to reread this fantastic horror/romance comic about an artist, a house, and what she finds inside. These are some variant covers I just picked up—they‘re all fantastic but I have to give a special shout out to the first two which are absolutely gorgeous. 😍
The Me You Love in the Dark is on the preliminary ballot for the 2022 Bram Stoker Awards so of course I have to give it a shout out. Only 5 issues, & available in a trade volume, this comic about an artist trying to find herself & rediscover her art, a brooding house, & a ghost is a gem. A little horror, a little romance, & a whole lot of drama—not to mention Skottie‘s words/Jorge‘s art—make this a fabulous read. Highly recommended.

pick4 ⭐ This is a dark volume. You feel Sokie‘s hand in it, because the story is both dark and has a bit of humor. In it, a young woman, an artist, is trying to find her inspiration. She has found success but keeping that success has been hard. She heads off to the country, finds herself a haunted house, decides it‘s the perfect atmosphere in which to find her inspiration. But the house is a little more than just haunted.
pickI‘m not sure where I even heard about this graphic horror/ romance? Novel. It was in my library holds stack I picked up today though, and it‘s pretty good. A fast read about an artist who rents a haunted house in order to get inspiration for a new painting series. She finds more than she expected…
panThis volume collects all five single issues, but it feels like there's essential buildup missing. I can't help but feel that from issue 1's, this might be a haunted house idea, to issue 4 in which the house isn't haunted as the MC, finds out since she's not just sharing the space with this entity but maybe dating him? It? Them?
I liked where it was going, but I do feel that a few more issues to create buildup and tension would have helped.

1. I did…well, I bought the tagged comic (trade edition) which, oddly enough, sort of fits with the holiday. It‘s about a struggling artist who rents a house & winds up falling for the house…or something…or someone?!? And you know this can‘t go well, right? So yeah, it‘s a horror romance or some such. Whatever it is, it‘s really good!
