"A heart-wrenching exploration of the decisions women must make when their loyalties are put to the test in the most unimaginable of circumstances. Sarah Penner, New York Times bestselling author of The Lost Apothecary A woman must rescue her cousin's family from a train bound for Auschwitz in this riveting tale of bravery and resistance, from the bestselling author of The Lost Girls of Paris 1942. Hannah Martel has narrowly escaped Nazi Germany after her fianc was killed in a pogrom. When her ship bound for America is turned away at port, she has nowhere to go but to her cousin Lily, who lives with her family in Brussels. Fearful for her life, Hannah is desperate to get out of occupied Europe. But with no safe way to leave, she must return to the dangerous underground work she thought she had left behind. Seeking help, Hannah joins the Sapphire Line, a secret resistance network led by a mysterious woman named Micheline and her enigmatic brother Mateo. But when a grave mistake causes Lilys family to be arrested and slated for deportation to Auschwitz, Hannah finds herself torn between her loyalties. How much is Hannah willing to sacrifice to save the people she loves? Inspired by incredible true stories of courage and sacrifice, Code Name Sapphire is a powerful novel about love, family and the unshakable resilience of women in even the hardest of times.

This is a captivating and well-researched novel. I was immersed in the dangerous and heroic world of resistance fighters during Nazi-occupied Europe. The book's exploration of themes such as sacrifice, bravery, and the resilience of the human spirit resonated strongly with me.

I highly recommend it for fans of historical fiction and World War II literature.

Gripping, edge-of-your-seat storytelling from Jenoff. WWII, Brussels, Belgium 🇧🇪, this is based on an actual rescue mission. Resisters Matteo, his sister Marcheline, and widow Hannah join forces to attack a railcar bound for Auschwitz to free Hannah‘s cousin Lily and her son. Solid characters who, like us readers, are never sure who they can trust

Every single character's bad decisions grated on me. It took a while for me to get through it. The story itself is interesting, but this isn‘t my favorite of hers.

This story is loosely inspired by the 'Comet Line' that worked to get downed airmen out of Belgium and by the 1943 attack by the resistance on a train heading to Auschwitz that freed many prisoners. I enjoyed the book and had trouble putting it down, but it was the story and the action, rather than the characters that held me. I of course loved that I learned something new, which is what the best historical fiction does. 3.75/5 stars.

Although I‘m fatigued regarding WWII stories Pam Jenoff however always manages to write well researched and well written stories about characters you want to take the journey with. This is no exception. I loved this one! Fast paced Hannah may be one of my favorite FC she‘s crafted. #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks
