I cannot fully express how much I detested this book. Everything about it was ridiculous, from the structure to the conclusion. The constant breaking of the fourth wall wasn‘t clever. It was annoying. The audiobook narrator‘s voices for various characters, and her inability to keep them consistent, didn‘t help. This is apparently going to be a series. I will not be reading more.

Hooked_on_books Oof. I really wonder how bad books get to be series. That shouldn‘t happen. Cute cover, though. 2w
DGRachel @Hooked_on_books It is a cute cover and the overall ratings aren‘t bad. It just didn‘t work for me (and I thought it was dreadful 🤷🏻‍♀️) 2w

Not my style of book but a fun plot with fun characters, and an engaging read.

Well, this was a fun read! I enjoyed the dreamy Italian locations, and I loved the MCs snark. The mystery was good too with some twists I didn‘t see coming. I listened to the whole thing in one sitting!

julieclair Yay! This has been on my TBR for awhile now, basically because I thought the title was a hoot. 🤣 But now that I know it includes dreamy Italian vacation scenery, I‘m all the more motivated to read it! 🇮🇹 3mo

Finally completed this cross stitch yesterday while finishing this audiobook, which was pretty good but not great. The story was interesting (and the locations were dreamy!) but I didn't connect to the MC and the constant remarks to the reader are a gimmick I've already gotten tired of in current books. A soft pick.

White Lotus meets Murder Mystery. Great cozy mystery to read in July. You‘ll want to go to Italy, eat all things pasta and lemon. The author breaks the fourth wall. I liked the MC was a cozy mystery author. Very light breezy read, perfect for the beach. Definitely will be getting the next book in the series. #seasonalcozies @julieclair

This is a light, cozy type of mystery and a good beach read. In addition to the story itself, I enjoyed the humour and the descriptions of scenic Italy. The plot was a little on the zany side and while I had put together some of it, the final reveal was still a bit of a surprise. I could see this book becoming a TV movie of the week, perhaps even a series of them if the author writes more. Thank you to Edelweiss+ for the digital ARC. 3.75/5

A murder mystery author is on a book tour in Italy where her friend (who has also been blackmailing her) thinks he is about to get murdered. Which is oddly perfect as she was going to kill him off as a character in her book anyway.
This is a light read with an inside look at the publishing industry as the main character is always breaking the fourth wall. Perfect beach read with a bit of mystery…and murder!

Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies is full of humor, quirky characters, a little romance, and a clever mystery set in picturesque Italy that takes readers behind the scenes into the crazy publishing world. It was an entertaining read. I hope there is a sequel.

This book may have been better served with a prologue set 10 years prior to suss out Connor as a cad, the relationship Eleanor had with her sister, and why we wanted to root for this MC. Once past the messy beginning it was a fun ride with the reader pulled into the chapters as snarky bits about the publishing industry are discussed. There is also piles of current music and book references which was entertaining. 👇

marleed The author writes a funny line about Florida, and oh my gosh, I wish I could‘ve been a fly on the wall to see her reaction when she heard the lyrics to the new song, Florida, by Taylor Swift. 6mo

Eleanor Dash is the successful author of the Vacation Mysteries Series who is trying to get through her book tour while trying to figure out how to kill off her main character. Obviously mayhem and murder ensue. I really disliked the footnotes and found they distracted from an otherwise solid read. Thanks to St. Martin‘s Press and NetGalley for the ARC.

The fourth wall breaks/footnotes simply did not work for me in this medium, but I had NO idea where the mystery was going and was enthralled by all the pieces coming together, so it was still worth it to me. This is going to work better as a TV show, imo. #mystery

JHSiess The footnotes didn't bother me. To be fair, I am, like the author, Catherine McKenzie, aka Catherine Mack, an attorney and have written countless briefs, motions, etc. using footnotes! But I can see how they could be really annoying. 5mo
Mpcacher I liked the idea of the footnotes, but do wish instead they had been included in brackets next to where they were relevant. I found in a digital format going back and forth difficult. 5mo
