To my complete surprise, the tagged book is my pick of the 6 FICTION books I finished in November. I wouldn‘t have guessed that based on the first 150 pages or so. But it grew on me. (And to be honest, the other 5 choices were simply ok.)

#2024ReadingBrackets

kspenmoll I like the idea of a separate fiction & non-fiction reading brackets. Where did you find them? (edited) 3w
Amiable @kspenmoll Right here on Litsy! I don‘t remember who posted them at the beginning of the year. I might have blank templates saved—will tag you for 2024 if I find them! 3w

My relationship status with this book would be “complicated.” For the first 150 pages, I dragged my feet on picking it up. Then I buckled down to read it —and couldn‘t put it down. I disliked the main character, even after finding out the family dynamics that basically made her into an unlikable person. But she was real and messy and imperfect and HUMAN—so I understood her in a visceral way. It‘s a pick for me, but I can see why others bail.

A large pile of reading material, a mug of hot tea, a fleecy blanket and a spot on the couch: Ah, Sunday mornings. 😍🥰

JacqMac My Sunday morning looks just like that, too. It‘s lovely. 1mo

11-13-24: My 41st finished book of 2024! Given to me by my dear friend, Dana, for my birthday, this sweeping tale of Julia and her family really moved me. Julia, Mark, Ben and Alma, a beautiful family with some issues. Julia grew up with a single mom who was not the best and it led to feelings of grief and inadequacies that took years if at all to overcome.Mark was her savior until she met Helen Russo and her life changed again.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣4️⃣1️⃣

1. Hmmm. How wide are the stripes? How big are the spots? I reserve the right to hold off on a decision without additional information. 😀
2. Just started reading the tagged library book. Only one chapter in so far so I have no opinion about it yet.

Thanks for the tag, @dabbe !

Amiable @dabbe I mean, am I going to have to go through life looking like a circus tent or a walking advertisement for a measles vaccine? Important details! 😄 1mo
dabbe @Amiable I say dots on top and vertical stripes on bottom! I've seen Katie Holmes wear it. Therefore, it's fashionable! 🤩 1mo

This is such a strange read for me. I took a big break halfway through then picked it up again and loved it. Then I skimmed much of the last fifty pages because I was over it. I think it was a bit too long. I think the writing was beautiful. I liked the character study, yet I was really ready for it to be over. So there‘s that. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Loved this family deep dive. Lots going on here but it was a quick read considering its length. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This novel that bounces in time in Julia‘s youth, middle age, young parent, single, and future is entertaining. Imperfect characters with drama and plot twists. It‘s good, but I didn‘t completely love the main character. It‘s a good book, nonetheless, with slightly overdramatized events….but it did make me keep reading:)

I really want to like it, but I just don‘t…at least not right now. Taking a break from it again; maybe this will be one I finish over months and months and months between other books.

Almost halfway through, and I might have to set it down for a bit. I love a character study and the writing is superb, but geez it‘s slogging along. Seems it doesn‘t need to be such a long book. It‘s killing my reading mojo. 😣

Oh interesting, I recently read and loved the new novel Sandwich with a very similar tone to this book but told in less than half the pages. I couldn‘t help but compare the two and critique the length as I was reading. Ultimately, I liked both stories very much as I‘m at a point in my life where I appreciate the musing of a menopausal, empty-nester MC

peaKnit I have this one in hand and just finished and loved Sandwich, your review has me thinking I‘ll enjoy it! (I have LP edition and the heft had me pausing, do I really want to?!) I‘m in the same phase as well; though my college kid is home for summer, some days I miss that empty nest lol! (edited) 5mo
BarbaraBB Interesting. I was a bit underwhelmed by Sandwich even though the subject hits home. I am now very curious to know if I‘ll like this one better! 5mo
Cathythoughts I just got this one, as I enjoyed The Most Fun. I must look up a Sandwich 👍🏻♥️ 5mo

Cathythoughts Thankyou 😘 5mo
peaKnit I laughed so hard at Sandwich I cried, I had to read excerpts to my husband so in hopes I am confirming I am not this unique nut, it‘s menopause! 5mo

Parnassus haul!! Sandwich is signed, too!

So funny hearing Claire talking about being mansplained that the title is a Talking Heads lyric. Yeah buddy, that was on purpose!

squirrelbrain Lovely!🥰 But the mansplaining thing. 🤔🙄😬 6mo
BarbaraBB So very cool! And I love your edition of 6mo
BarbaraBB Oh and I love the lyrics of that Talking Heads song! If she used them on purpose I am sure I need to read that book! 6mo

Megabooks @BarbaraBB yes, lots of music in this one!! 👍🏻👍🏻🙌🏻 6mo
Megabooks @marleed it was fantastic! 6mo
Megabooks @squirrelbrain oh yeah! She was just fantastic. Really funny and excellent answers to questions. Looking forward to the book! 6mo
Megabooks @BarbaraBB the book apparently shares the sense of unreality and how one got where one is with the song. 6mo
vivastory The Talking Heads ref immediately makes me think of Dream Scenario, one of my fave movies I've seen this yr 6mo
Megabooks @vivastory I had to look up the movie. Sounds very much like the song in a more horror way than this book. I think this is more “how did I end up in suburbia with a family?? Am I even happy?” Which admittedly has been done before, but I‘m hopeful this is a good entry from how strong her debut was for me. 6mo
vivastory The movie def had horror elements but w/ a strong existential bent to it which I thought made it stand out. It was def a unique take on Ever Dream This Man
I hope that the book works out for you!
Also, I saw the cover for Tehrangeles on IG last week & it melted my mind a bit. In a good way.

I had a fantastic time at Parnassus Books watching Claire Lombardo (L) in conversation with Lyndsey Lynch. They put on such good events! Picture of my purchases tomorrow. If you are ever in Nashville, it‘s a must-see store! I‘ll catch on Camp Litsy posts tomorrow. Now, it‘s time for bed!

BarbaraBB You did go! And it sounds wonderful again! I can‘t wait to see what you bought! And Parnassus is so high on my bucket list! 6mo

Megabooks @squirrelbrain I did! I‘d love it if you @BarbaraBB and I could go someday!! 6mo
vivastory Have you by chance read Lyndsey's book? I've been curious about it 6mo
Megabooks @vivastory I have not gotten to Lynsey‘s book yet. It sounds interesting, but historical fiction can be really hit-or-miss for me, so it isn‘t my go-to genre to pick up. 6mo
