pickI love Fiona Davis books. This time she chose the Met and the Met gala to tell the story of an Egyptian half face of a Queen from Egypt that has been stolen. Two timelines, some good Egyptian archeology, a good ending. Only problem, I can read her books too quickly!:)
so-soI bought this brand new book from my library after spilling a full bowl of chicken noodle soup on it. I loved the peak inside the 1978 Met Gala and the Egyptology. The characters held my attention. As the improbable coincidences piled up, I lost interest but read on because: expensive soup accident.

pickI love that Fiona Davis weaves a story from a NYC landmark building and describes details I wish I knew from the firsthand experience I imagine I‘d have if only my life was lived in Manhattan. In this one the Met is the bridge to get us to digs in 1930‘s Egypt, stolen artifacts, and who has the right to own them. Interesting way to tell this story. story.
I absolutely loved this book. It will be in my top books for 2025 if we survive the year.
A story about the Egyptian digs back in. 1936 then skip ahead to 1978. You meet some strong young women and a couple of older ones in this intriguing story of love, loss, and found. It's so good.

My #Bookspin is a new release historical fiction I'm excited to read! My #Doublespin is a middle grade historical fiction told in verse; it also just received a Newbery Honor award and fits perfectly with Black History Month. Both historical, but very different settings!!

so-soFiona Davis is one of my favorite historical fiction novelists, and one author that I have read all of her books. I acknowledge that I am about to express an unpopular opinion: while The Stolen Queen was enjoyable, it did not fully resonate with me as some of her other novels have.

pickThis book is exactly what would happen if you mixed The Mummy with Indiana Jones with Night at the Museum with the Met Gala with Amelia Peabody—Davis throws all the best/worst archaeology, museum, tombs, curses, bad family, treasure hunting, you name it tropes at the wall and for the most part they stick. Is it in any real way accurate? No. Is it a fun and entertaining read? Yes, it is and I can see this being a fun escape for readers.
Today‘s reading—the Met, ancient Egypt and a mysterious queen, a curse. What could go wrong? I imagine all sorts of fun and adventure awaits. Danger too…

I am excited about Fiona Davis‘s new book coming out this month! I preordered it from my local Indie bookstore. I am enrolled in a program they have that discounts new books if you preorder them. I want to support this bookstore, do I became a member. Otherwise, except for buddy reads(if not in my local library), I have banned myself from buying books. Quite an addiction so….😂
pickFiona Davis can do no wrong in my book 🥰 I love her stories, the settings, and her characters are so well developed that they practically leap off the page. I tried to pace myself reading this, but once I got past halfway I couldn‘t resist trying to finish it asap. Preorder or put your name on your library‘s waitlist now, you‘ll want to read this when it publishes 1/7/2025!!
