Walking Home: A Pilgrimage from Humbled to Healed | Sonia Choquette
11 posts | 4 read | 3 to read
Life was falling apart. Within the space of three years, New York Times best-selling author and six-sensory spiritual teacher Sonia Choquette had suffered the unexpected death of two close family members, seen her marriage implode, and been let down by trusted colleagues. And sympathy was not forthcoming. Youre a world-renowned intuitive guide and teacher, people jeered. How could you not have seen this coming? Having intuitive abilities didnt make her superhuman, however. Nor did it exempt her from being wounded or suffering the pain of loss and the consequences of our all-too-human traits such as anger, resentment, and pridetraits that can lead even the best of us to stray from our path. In order to regain her spiritual footing, Sonia turned to the age-old practice of pilgrimage and set out to walk the legendary Camino de Santiago, an 800-kilometer (500-mile) trek over the Pyrenees and across northern Spain. Day after day she pushed through hunger, exhaustion, and pain to reach her destination. Eventually, mortification of the flesh gave way to spiritual renewal, and she rediscovered the gifts of humility and forgiveness that she needed to repair her world. In this riveting book, Sonia shares the intimate details of her grueling experience, as well as the unexpected moments of grace, humor, beauty, and companionship that supported her through her darkest hours. While her journey is unique, the lessons she learnedabout honoring your relationships with others as well as with your own higher self, and forgiving all elseare universal.

Walking the Camino de Santiago. The books is often about her inner monologue. We have very different belief systems but I greatly admired what she did. Was worth reading.

MemoirsForMe I really enjoyed this book too! 3mo

Thank you to all who post their walking pictures for #LitsyBitsy. You have no idea how inspirational you are.
#keeplitsypositive #40miles20hours #audiowalkers
Today was a little different, I walked almost 5 miles but no audiobook. I listened to 80‘s tunes instead.

Anyone can join in. Walk, listen, post pic, tag. Please keep those pics coming. ❤️🧡💛

I feel like this is something I need! I keep telling myself that I need to get out walking more but then spend the night on the couch so maybe you'll all keep me accountable!
Now.....who's going to remind me to check in? 😂

Great idea @wanderinglynn 👍

Do you do this too? Reading while walking? So many lampposts I‘ve only just missed 🤣🤣

wanderinglynn Yep, I read and walk. 👍🏻 One of my co-workers asked me how I do it. I said decades of practice. 😂 6y
i.z.booknook I really want to but I‘m way too nervous of falling and making a fool of myself 😂😂😊 6y
LittleBug @wanderinglynn Apparently I did it already as a kid😁 So I‘ve definitely had years and years of practice 😜 6y
LittleBug @TheAliceEvers I‘ve had those moments 😉 But the book‘s always more important 😜 6y

I haven‘t hit 10k in months—certainly not since I got the new Fitbit for Christmas. Sadly I had to go to the mall to get half of these steps in. But I had 800 steps left when I got home so I went for a quick walk. I even (gasp) ran for a tiny bit of that. Probably will not make a habit out of the running thing though. There‘s no bears in Indiana to chase me.

CocoReads Also, Nonpoint is excellent walking/running music 7y
Kaye Good job 👍🏼. 7y
CocoReads @Kaye thanks. After trying on clothes at the hated mall, it‘s more apparent than ever I need to drop a few pounds. Since I really like eating, I guess I‘d better start moving more. 7y

Kaye For me, it took stepping on the scale at the Dr. 😮Drove straight to the gym and signed up. That was 1-9-17. Still going daily, although still moaning about it. You can do it. 7y
CocoReads @Kaye we gave up our gym memberships due to cost and in my case, lack of desire to drive somewhere to use it. My hub is very disciplined and runs almost daily since he quit smoking over a year ago. I don‘t have that discipline. But I‘m going to have to suck it up and do it. I refuse to buy bigger clothes again. 7y
Kaye Luckily, this year I turned 60 so membership price dropped. It‘s also lower for residents , plus they had a sale price at Christmas. I got one year ( including all night pass ) for 156 bucks. Our weather is too cruddy half the year to get out. I knew if I paid money I‘d stick to it. Put the Human App in your phone or iPod. Set it to remind you ever so often. It‘ll drive you bonkers but also make you get up. I have to use all the help I can get (edited) 7y
erinreads YAY. Also, you just made me check my steps for today and I‘m at 9367, so I guess I‘m going to walk the halls in my apartment for a bit now. 😂 I‘ve had a Fitbit for like 4 years now, so it‘s just become a normal thing for me and sadly I forget to actually check my steps or sync my steps to the app on a regular basis. 7y
CocoReads @erinreads I don‘t sync or check the app much. My hub got me an Alta hr for Christmas to replace my old flex and since it just tells me my steps, I hardly ever sync. I‘m always in a challenge with my boss and Sister but I‘m the least competitive person in the world so it doesn‘t motivate me at all. I join the challenge and then never look at it. 7y

Not as life altering as Wild & I got a little tired of hearing about the daily food, but a decent read none the less.
