Happy Birthday @MatchlessMarie! I'll probably read more today but am unlikely to finish anything else. Thanksgiving madness is here!

My #37By37 goal was four books, which I met, as well as a short story and two graphic novels. And am several stories into Table for Two, one of my #10BeforeTheEnd books.

Peter Carey is never going to be a favorite, but I do admire him even if I don‘t love him. This started off well but became baggy in the middle. A French aristocrat travels to antebellum America to ostensibly writes treatise on American prisons but really to escape political threats. He‘s accompanied by Englishman Parrot, a nominal servant but very much his own man and with a tragic past.

ChaoticMissAdventures ✔️✔️ great job! 7h
BarbaraBB I didn‘t like this one much while I loved 5h
Ruthiella @BarbaraBB This is the third book of his I‘ve read. Oscar and Lucinda was the first and I still have THREE other books of his on my physical shelves. 😅 3h
BarbaraBB Why?! I won‘t read any more by him. I didn‘t like the book you read and neither did I like now

I missed #FridayHappyReadingHour yesterday but this morning I am enjoying my coffee and listening to the sound of the rain with the slider open.

I am ready to finish up the tagged for #NancyDrewBR as well as Parrot and Olivier for #OffMyShelf and #10beforetheend today.

Later, after errands and my parents, I will crack in to my pile for #ChristmasCrimeChallenge.

I‘ve wanted to read another book by Kirshenbaum since loving Rabbits for Food. This one was lovely in a meandering, melancholy way, true to the title. Reflections on life‘s choices, through stories Sylvia tells Henry on their roadtrip, which is itself a story that you know from the start won‘t have a happy ending. Definitely my kind of book.

#10BeforeTheEnd

youneverarrived Sounds like my kind of book, too. 14h

Mehso-so

This one is on the high side of so-so for me. The concept, a crime scene photographer who can see and talk to the ghosts of the victims, is a good one, but this first in the series has too much childhood back story to be properly considered a thriller, and there‘s too much unnecessary detail in places. But my kindle copy included the first chapter of book 2 and I‘m kinda already invested in that story
Book 4 of #10BeforeTheEnd

The story of a former member of the French Resistance turned expert hit-woman is humorous but turns very dark very quickly. Not for the faint-hearted.
TW for animal cruelty.

Third finish for #10BeforeTheEnd @ChaoticMissAdventures

I ended up inhaling over half of this today. It's very much food for thought that we have less privacy in law than we used to: in Scotland, now, you can be prosecuted for private speech in your own living room. It's surprising how ambivalent and unsure I feel about some of this.

Definitely gonna sit with it a bit before I write a full review.

This was one of my #10BeforeTheEnd; 5/10 now read.
