I was immediately in love with Gertrude. The 37 year old foul mouthed pain in the heiny stuck in a 10 year old's body. She was supposed to spend an hour, or even a day in Fairyland, but instead she has been stuck for 27 years. She has just gotten more rotten as time goes on.

I feel this book has been over hyped. For a while there every October people pulled it‘s dark pages out and said it was the haunted house book middle graders are craving. I heard everything from a middle grade version of House on Haunted Hill, to a shorter version of Rose Madder. Ummmmmm, I think not. To me this feels more like Flowers in the Attic by way of Brian Selznick without the incest.

DGRachel Well, at least it skips the incest... 😱 3mo

I quite enjoyed this steampunk tale of medical espionage. The steampunk was not outlandish, made sense, and worked well in the story line. I was not expecting much from this book or from the audiobook. But I found myself sucked into the adventure and the romance of the story. This is just the first book in a trilogy and I will be checking out the rest of the series as soon as my Hoopla account renews.

What a wonderful end to this series. It was almost a shame to close the pages. Our heroes found the secret of the Dark Crystal and helped bring unity to both their people. I loved everything about this series and think it‘s a shame the movie never came together. There is a spin-off series called Beneath the Dark Crystal. I guess I will now have to go pick that up.

Volume 2 does not suffer from the second book slump. But is that even a thing with graphic novels? This smoothly continues from book one. This time our team of heroes are on a quest to the firelands to put back that shard. Loving this series.

June felt like I read nothing, but then like I read everything because I was trying to finish a project at work. It was crazy. My stats are above.

I am also going to do some challenge check ins. The challenges I don't have graphics for are #GondorGirlGNchallenge

This story starts 6 weeks before Illuminae. Private Olivia has joined the ship to work with AIDEN and teach him moral imperatives. This story is super short, but it packs a wallop. It‘s all about AIDEN learning “I”. It‘s the first step to “creating” the supercomputer that can give Hal a run for his money. A great read. It works well as a side piece after you have finished everything else.

tjwill How can I read this? Do you know if they will be publishing it officially? 6mo
LibrarianRyan @tjwill According to Jay Kristoff, it will not be published anywhere else, or released as an ebook. (That could change, but I have no idea). I am willing to share, if you would send it back when you are done. I might even open it up and do a mail chain because I know there are a few people who want to read it. (edited) 6mo
BooknerdsLife Oh Lucky you!!! 😍 We don‘t even get Memento here in Australia and have to preorder through American stores but the shipping was way too expensive for me 😭 6mo

3 🌟 What happens when Fate and Chance make a bet over a map?
I almost DNFed. The book moves along very slowly, and the audiobook makes it worse. On top of that, beauty is a big thing in this book. Isabella asks the fairy queen to give her beauty, and the fairy queen says she will only grant this wish if Isabella can find all three pieces of her broken heart. This book is that quest. listen @ 1.75 speed to stay awake.

I am officially a Murderbot fan! This book packs so much into just a few pages.
Its a quick read that will have you glued to the pages and screaming for more. Murdotbot, just might have a heart and I want to see it develop. And see what type of trouble he can get himself into.

shanaqui I juuuust reread this today! I love Murderbot's snarky “aarrgggh people noooo“ reactions.

(Sidenote: I find it really odd when people call Murderbot “he“ -- or she! I'm fairly sure it states pronouns as “it“, and I've managed to log those even though so very few *people* use that for themselves. Gave me a jolt just now reading this review/comments. 😅)

LibrarianRyan @shanaqui your right. You are very right. It is an It. It‘s odd how we automatically gender. Especially when he talks about having no sex parts because he‘s not a f$&@ bot. 6mo
Saw629 Would you recommend this book to someone who peruses sci-fi books, but isn‘t huge into them? 6mo
LibrarianRyan @Saw629 I think I would. It takes place on a Tera firma but it‘s more an action/thriller. Murderbot is a security guard who has a job to do. Plus it‘s short. It isn‘t bogged down like many sci-fi are. Researchers are on a new world determining what it is, so the author doesn‘t have to delve too much into the world. Plus it‘s a great character study. It‘s easy to forget murderbot isn‘t a “man” because it feels like one. 6mo

2 🌟 I read the original The Magicians before it was in paperback. I think about this graphic novel the same way i felt about that book: boring!!!!! Maybe I would like the TV show more? Alice is trying to get into the magical university, which she does. Then she gets to skip part of her first year. It just goes nowhere and does nothing for this reader.

Trashcanman Say what? Just watch Rambo and Rambo 2. Pfftttt the hell with that noise.ha! 6mo
BillBlume The TV series, what I saw of the first season was much better than the book. 6mo
LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman I wont lie, with a new Rambo coming out, I have been tempted to rewatch the entire series. I just haven't had a day where I was sick enough yet. 😁 6mo

Trashcanman @LibrarianRyan if you want to get sick I can arrange that. 6mo
LibrarianRyan @BillBlume I plan to try the TV show. I caught the first 20 minutes of episode one, and it starts off compleatly different from the book, and I just not really tried to watch it. And Lev is SOOOOOOOO nice. We chose his book for our very first One Summer One Book, and he made a little intro video for our website and everything. It sucks that I didn't like it. It was right up my alley. 6mo
TsundokuAleax If you like the books, the TV show has such a similar vibe. They are two different beasts but the writers know these characters and respect who they are on the page. I have not watched recently due to time and not sure about how they ended the last season. That being said, what I watched was a perfect interpretation of these characters and the story to the point that I did not mind all the changes. 6mo
wanderinglynn @LibrarianRyan Oh, I‘m so glad I‘m not the only one. I so badly want to like this book because it‘s my genre & I love the premise. But I would read a few sentences or a paragraph & then put it down. I‘m now trying the audiobook. The narrator is good, but I think there‘s just too much detail & not enough movement, so I find myself phasing out. 🙁 6mo
LibrarianRyan @wanderinglynn EXACTLY! If it wasn't something I had to read for work, I would never have finished it. UGHHHHHHHHHH 6mo
