Trying to get some reading in before going to sleep but my 2 reading buddies don't make it easy. Chase my big dog on the left and my dachshund is the Chewbacca looking lump on the right 🤣

I dragged my feet on picking a NONFICTION winner for #2024ReadingBrackets to move on. For March, the clear winner was the tagged book, a true story about police corruption in Baltimore. I first saw the HBO series about the scandal, produced by David Simon (“The Wire”). Once I heard it was based on a book … I flew through it. It was a great read (and TV show). But I keep thinking about Raskin's book, so I had to move that through.
Novel in verse: 16 yo Amina, who lost her mom at the age of 3, feels sure she really lost her dad then too. Silence and acrimony persist between them, but the bottom falls out when the truth about the new pastor is revealed, and Amina‘s not the only one. Written with compassion and hope😔

1. In addition to the 21 books I plan to #readordonate I want to #readorbail with the 8 e-books that were on my Goodreads “currently reading” tag at the end of 2023. Some have been there way too long, as with the tagged book.

A bit early for Halloween, but this GN caught my eye in the library. It's the 2nd in the series, but the setup is straightforward: WWI ended after 2 years due to a pandemic plague, followed by a resurgence of vampires! Lord Henry Baltimore apparently lost a leg to über-vamp Haigus in the last volume, not to mention having to send his undead family to their stake-death, so Baltimore's blood is hot for vampire slaying! Fangtastic! 🦇🧛🏻♂️🦇
First vaca in 4 years with a fave author for August #bookspin and new bookmark from Bee store in Myrtle Beach❣️

Enjoyable isn't the right word for this one, so I'll just say it was compelling. Gruesome and gritty and all to real, it was an uncomfortable read to be sure. But it was also impossible to put down. I finished it in one go, and my only complaint is that I don't know how long I'll have to wait for part two. I think fans of The Wire will love it.

Trying to decide which mood I'm in today. Both are #ARCs. Decisions are the worst.
I took this past week off work for a staycation and ended up spending a lot of my time listening to Laura Lippman audiobooks and doing jigsaw puzzles. Not a bad way to spend a week!
