Christmas read.
“It takes no courage at all to doubt, Marta,” she said. “And we are not beyond rescue. We are never beyond rescue.”
“It takes no courage at all to doubt, Marta,” she said. “And we are not beyond rescue. We are never beyond rescue.”
“There are days,” said the countess as she put on a hat that featured a yellow bird, “when the soul can be rescued from despair by the right hat. Although some days, of course the soul seems beyond rescue, and then there is nothing to do except to be patient and wait for the light to return, with or without a hat upon your head.”
This, thought Marta, is one of those days.
Pay attention, my love. Note everything for me. Tell me where you see the light seep through.
I love Kate DiCamillo so, so much. This is another book I want to hug.
Marta‘s mother is a maid at the Hotel Balzaar, and Marta must spend her days staying quiet and invisible, certainly not bothering any of the hotels‘ guests. Until a countess and her parrot arrive and the countess singles Marta out to tell her a series of stories—each to be told in its proper order, at the proper time. ⤵️
Today we finished reading this gem of a book. It was beautiful, whimsical & full of magic. I felt like a kid again, letting my imagination run & laughing with all the silliness & crazy adventures the characters experienced. I definitely recommend this book. Beware: this book could be considered as banned nowadays since certain terminology has changed its meaning through the decades. Also, some cultural aspects may clash.
Overall, a must read!
My partner is reading me book 2 of the series The Faraway Tree. His favorite series from his childhood. Almost finished and loving it. Love the illustrations.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is my partner‘s favorite children‘s book. He read it to me & I loved it. He is now reading book 2 to me. I love the author descriptions & the illustrations are amazing. Her imagination & all the conflicts that arise. Such a fun read
.
⚠️ Beware this book is now a banned book given the fact many words used are now considered rude or insulting or have a different connotation. At the time it was written none of that mattered.

Big question but I went with my lifetime top 3 - Jane Austen, Ethel Turner and Harper Lee
