I LOVED this book, and narrator Vikas Adam truly brought these characters to life. Akash is a closeted gay Indian-American young man who has returned to help his mother, Renu, move out of his childhood home. Each is holding a candle for a man from their past. As story alternates between mother and son, they address complicated feelings for their beloveds as well as brother/other son and recently dead father/husband. Just fantastic! #audiobook

This book was a pleasure to read, but I had to suspend my knowledge about journalism to believe it. It‘s 1957 and Jean is a spinster living with and caring for her mother while working as a reporter for the local daily. When a woman writes in saying that her daughter is the product of a virgin birth, Jean sets out to investigate while the woman and her daughter go for medical testing. Jean becomes compromisingly involved in the family‘s life. 😬

I‘ve had a lazy day today and haven‘t read much. There were some fantastic books this week with the exception of The Life of the Mind. However, my favorite was definitely the Patchett! @Cinfhen I hope you love it too!

This has been a truly great reading month overall. I‘m averaging more than 4⭐️ for the first time this year, a welcome change after last month‘s mediocrity. My current books are no exception. 19 left in the #DriveTo500! #BookReport

Real talk: I did not like the little kid narrating this one. It was super annoying being in her head and listening to her thoughts. I didn‘t find it cute, and her brand of precociousness wore on me. I‘m kind of surprised I finished, but it was short, and #DriveTo500.

Hooked_on_books People raved over Women Talking and I just found it disappointing, so I‘m not in a hurry to try her again. I suspect I‘d have the same reaction to this book as you. 3y
