Midmonth check in. Not a single read from my #HauntedShelf TBR. I blame Libby‘s new hold policy.

My October “should read” TBR is excessive. This is a pared down version with Banned Books Week, bookspin/double spin, LTER ARCs, Nancy Drew & Encyclopedia Brown buddy reads, and my two annual October reads. We‘ll see how much I get through. I have two library books due back in less than a week and there‘s still 150+ people waiting on that Slaughter, so that one feels “now or never”, but I have 3 more books currently in progress. 😮💨
October #Roll100 ready. I really need to get my act together and get these books read. 🤦🏾♀️
@PuddleJumper
Sometimes this book got at what it was reaching for, and sometimes it was clouded by 80s conceptions and language, and sometimes it sank like a stone under the exoticising racism and transphobia of something written by a rich white lady from New Orleans. A roller coaster, to be sure.
I will say this about this weirdly constructed book - the vacation interlude sure makes me want to take a rich fuck vacation, a thing that I will -never- be able to do
Look at this quote from the casting director of the new “Wuthering Heights” movie. “Just a book,” indeed. 😠
(Tagged book is what I actually expect this film to be based on. 🤣)
