Pickpick

I unfortunately had not heard of this children‘s classic until it was a pick for #LMPBC #Round7 #GroupC. I am so glad I went on this rabbit adventure full of mischief and danger. I never knew rabbit life could be so perilous! It does take some getting used to the foliage descriptions, but they made sense considering the world the reader is immersed in. I think I may get a copy for myself, perhaps on audio. This has been mailed! 4⭐️s!

JaclynW I've never looked at rabbits the same way after reading this book.😳 2w
lele1432 @JaclynW Haha yes!! I have been exposed to a completely different world of rabbits and I can‘t look at them the same! 2w
JaclynW @lele1432 When reading, I kept asking myself, "This book is for children?!" ??? 2w

lele1432 @JaclynW lol yes! I almost wrote that in this post but ran out of room. I‘m not quite so sure how this became a classic for children...aside from it being about rabbits...but it seemed more relatable to me as an adult! 🤷🏽‍♀️😂 2w
TiredLibrarian I read this years ago. Don't remember many details, but I do remember parts that were very scary, at least to my teen self! 2w
JaclynW @lele1432 Exactly! 2w
lele1432 @TiredLibrarian yep! I was unprepared for the amount of danger, suspense, and the pulse-racing parts! It‘s definitely not just a cute story about bunnies lol. 2w
TheAromaofBooks This is a book I enjoyed back in the day, so I'm looking forward to getting to it when it's my turn. However, I have to agree that it definitely does NOT seem like a children's book to me!! 2w
lele1432 @TheAromaofBooks looking forward to your review! 2w
lele1432 Gonna go ahead and use this for #Booked2020 prompt #LiveandLearn as I knew nothing about rabbits lol and #ReadingEurope2020 probably the easiest one...England.😊 @BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB 2w
lele1432 Also #PopSugarReadingChallenge #PopSugar2020 #Pop20 for invented language (edited) 2w
Librarybelle Awesome! I read this one many years ago. My hardest part deciding for the UK is which one to pick! 😂 2w
BarbaraBB It feels so satisfying when a book ticks off three prompts 😀 2w
Cinfhen Definitely going to add this to my #readingClassics2020challenge xx thanks for sharing 😁🙌🏻 2w
4thhouseontheleft My father-in-law was encouraging me to read this while he was visiting (since we have a pet 🐇 ). @Cinfhen maybe an impromptu #buddyread when you get to it? 2w
lele1432 Going to use this for #jennyis30 #classics! @jenniferw88 1w

Pickpick

One of the best books I've ever read. I cannot understand why it wasn't appreciated more when first published, but I'm thankful #NYRB gave it a second life! A melancholy novel about life, work, disappointment, & the love of literature, this novel was so real & incited every range of emotion in me. 5⭐️s! So so sorry for the delay, this will reach its destination in a couple of days! #LMPBC #Round7 #GroupC #WinterGames #TBRRead #TMSkellington

lele1432 #PopSugarReadingChallenge #PopSugar2019 #Pop19 Takes place on a college or University campus 1mo
lele1432 Fun fact: John Williams retired to my small hometown in the year I was born, and remained there until his death in '94. Which means I unknowingly lived amongst a world-class author during my childhood, not knowing that some 25-30 years later I would read a book he wrote and fall in love. ♥️ 1mo
TheBookHippie One of my favorites ❤️❤️❤️ 1mo

youneverarrived Great story! And I love this too 💙 1mo
Bookwormjillk I haven‘t received my book for this group yet. Has everyone else received theirs? 1mo
lele1432 @Bookwormjillk it's this one! 1mo
Bookwormjillk @lele1432 oh great! Ha! This has been on my TBR for years- looking forward to it 1mo
TheBookHippie @lele1432 I came across it while researching unknown awesome classic reads a few years ago. What a find. 1mo
TheAromaofBooks Thanks for the update!! I'm interested to read this one when it comes my way because it is NOT my usual type of book! 1mo
lele1432 @youneverarrived such a shame it wasn't more successful when it was first published. It really is a great read! 1mo
lele1432 @Bookwormjillk I hope you like it! 1mo
lele1432 @TheAromaofBooks lol I look forward to hearing your thoughts! I loved it, but can see how it might not be for everyone! 1mo
lele1432 @TheBookHippie isn't it?? This is exactly what I love about NYRB. Finding overlooked gems like this one! 1mo
Crimson613 16pts!! 12-11 Ohh now I'm interested!! 😮😮😮 1mo
Bookwormjillk @lele1432 I loved this book so, so much. Thanks for choosing it. It‘s been on my TBR for years and I‘m grateful that I finally had a reason to read it. Definitely one of the best things I‘ve read this year if not ever. I‘ll be thinking about Stoner for a long time. 3w
lele1432 @Bookwormjillk yay!! And you're welcome!! I am typically not very emotional when I read books. But this one pulled at all my heartstrings. I'm still thinking about it. I wish more people knew about this book! 3w

Mehso-so

This turned out to be an adapted version (no accusation here @Bookwormjillk - it isn't well marked at all!) so it felt very simplistic and choppy. I think I am going to try to read the original version sometime and see if it flows better. This wasn't a cheerful book, but in the wilderness only the strong survive!
#LMPBC #GroupC #TBRread #WinterGames #MerryReaders @Clwojick @StayCurious @lover.of.the.classics @lele1432

Bookwormjillk I know! I was disappointed too! I didn‘t realize until I finished. 1mo
TheAromaofBooks @Bookwormjillk - it's all good. Although I've never quite understood the point of adaptations. It just seems like kids should read the books when they're old enough to read the actual book. 1mo

Pickpick

This is my pick for #GroupC of the new round of #LMPBC so I won't delve too much into the details. Overall an enjoyable read that I hadn't visited since childhood. A bit unbelievable - truly, other than getting shipwrecked, I'm not sure anything else went very wrong! - but still a great deal of fun!

Started this one last night for #LMPBC #GroupC - haven't read it since I was a wee girl, so I am interested to revisit it. I mostly remember being enamoured with all the animals they tamed.

TheAromaofBooks @Cinfhen @Eggs - thank you! I'm not usually very good at taking book pics, but the top of the desk suddenly struck me as an excellent spot to use. :-D 2mo

Also have my #LMPBC choices I may get through for #Round7 #GroupI and #GroupC, and my next #NFNov pick. Need to break out my snacks! 🤗

lele1432 @jb72 I've put off reading it since it came out! I have an unrepentant sweet toothe lol but I think he gives some valuable information in it. I'll listen to it as I eat my sugary snacks.😂 2mo
Andrew65 Sugar is such a dangerous thing as I have found out recently. 2mo
lele1432 @Andrew65 I believe it! It's going to be such a hard habit for me to kick, but I'm not getting any younger and I at least need to reduce my intake. 😩 2mo
Andrew65 @lele1432 I‘m having to do the same at the moment. July 19th Last date I ate a cake. 😳 (edited) 2mo
lele1432 @Andrew65 wow! Congrats on that!! That's gotta take some willpower lol 2mo
Andrew65 @lele1432 Yes, now trying to reduce my carbohydrates. Necessity is the mother of invention. Those carbohydrates and my liver weren‘t liking each other. 2mo
lele1432 @Andrew65 shoot, I'm sure that's hard but you're right at the end of the day what matters most is your health! No matter how enticing those carbs may be! 😩 2mo
Andrew65 @lele1432 Get really frustrated when food shopping in the supermarket! But as you say health most important! 2mo
lele1432 @Andrew65 I can relate to that! I was making myself sick and destroying my gut for a while after developing a gluten allergy because I didn't want to give up my pastas, breads, and cakes! 😩 Thankfully these days they have more gluten-free options available. 2mo
Clwojick 😃1 pt. And great time so far! Keep it up! 🙌 2mo
