Another creative, wildly imaginative, plot. What struck me with this # 14 in the series was the author‘s in-depth character development of a possible suspect, the deeply troubled Mark Siddons. The descriptions of his inner psyche, emotional,& social background present possible motivations for his behaviors & in effect, created my sympathy for him. Centered around suspicious fires that resulted in murders, & art forgery, making a compelling read.
Aftermath: The “House of Payne” a typical upper class, luxurious suburban home in a lovely neighborhood, harbors a nightmare of unimaginable horrors. In the murky depths of its outbuildings basements‘, ghastly, monstrous, horrific evil has been released into the area.impossible to guess the outcome.
The Summer That never Was: While DCI Banks is recuperating from the previous books descent into evil‘s murky depths in Greece,he sees a news article⬇️

I may take a break from this series only because I do not want to finish these books too fast. But i just had to see Banks through this one book after the previous tumultuous Aftermath‘s journey into the bowels of evil.

Another stunner in this series. Morally complex, expertly plotted, riveting – a tale of elusive evil.
#9: a dead body in an alleyway,a white power organization, & greed run rampant.A multilayered plot for DCI banks to unwind.
#10: a drought has caused the waters of a reservoir to recede. Yorkshire village from times past, is revealed. This #8 in the DCI Banks series is a stunner.
A man is charged with the murder of a wealthy, prominent politician‘s daughter.Prior to his trial, the accused spends months in jail, which he narrates in minute detail.I don‘t want to give anything away, but suffice to say there is a clever multi layered plot,& an in-depth character study. The surprising ending left me cynically wondering if her murder will be avenged or court justice will prevail.
‘“A cadaveric spasm had caused Rothwell to grab and hold onto a handful of dust at the moment of death, and Banks thought of the T.S.Elliott quotation, “I will show you fear and a handful of dust,”which he had come across as the title of an Evelyn Waugh novel.”‘
A wild, ingenious plot, with unforeseen consequences for many of the characters.Bank‘ nemesis “Dirty Dick reappears to the consternation of Banks. At Banks request, big, bumbling, but astute ⬇️
