Truth from Hercule Poirot. It‘s a tact I use in depositions. Get the witness to talk, a lot! #lawyersoflitsy

I read ebooks almost exclusively, but occasionally pick up a physical book when an author graciously sends me a lovely autographed copy so that I can read & review it.⁣⁣

I'm looking forward to reading 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, the legal thriller from 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐧𝐧 𝐙𝐢𝐞𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐫, because I'm an attorney 𝘢𝘯𝘥 had a run-in with an out-of-control homeowners assoc. years ago. Thank you, Sharon!⁣⁣

Texreader That‘s hilarious! I had a case once that involved an out of control HOA too! Fortunately partway through, a conflict developed and the client had to hire a different attorney. I have no idea what I was going to do with that wacky case. #lawyersoflitsy 4y

#magicalMay May 1: May Day

May Day is also Law Day in the U.S. and here are some of my personal law books. #lawyersoflitsy

The Law Day 2020 theme is “Your Vote, Your Voice, Our Democracy: The 19th Amendment at 100.”

Eggs Fascinating!! Are you a lawyer? 5y
wanderinglynn @Eggs yes I am 😀 And I primarily practice environmental law (if you didn‘t guess from the books 😂) 5y
Eggs Well that is an area of law I wouldn‘t have thought of—go you👏🏻👏🏻 5y

This is the stack of contracts I have to review today. Luckily, a lot of them are very similar so I‘ve just lined them up on the conference room table and am going through them one page at a time! #notfunreading #Grateful for my job though! #lawyersoflitsy

I‘ve been a bit absent from Litsy lately. It has been a MONTH (it‘s actually been a year, if I‘m being honest). I‘m still making time to read a little every day on my commute, but otherwise my life is consumed by work. Luckily, we‘re going on vacation in two weeks (road trip!) so hopefully I can get back to participating more then because I miss you! In the meantime, trying to get some work/life balance lessons from this book. #lawyersoflitsy

BookwormAHN Glad you‘re back. Have fun on your trip 😺 6y

#BookFitnessChallenge

I was so busy organizing (b/c you guys blew me away with your enthusiastic response!), I almost forgot to set my own goals. And like the rules & the points system, I of course couldn‘t resist being a bit complicated. 😂 #blameitonthedayjob #lawyersoflitsy

And because you all embraced this idea so thoroughly, I have a couple other ideas brewing that I may toss out to you later this summer. 😉

Let‘s go team! 🙌🏻 #BFC

wanderinglynn Oh, and 6 audiobooks! 6y

Clwojick Woohoo! This is a strong list of goals! I‘m sending you all the positive vibes! ♥️ 6y
mcipher Wow!! That‘s sb awesome list of goals! 👍 6y
alisiakae Great goal list! I like to use Insight Timer for meditating, and it also makes it easy to track for this challenge! 😃 6y
wanderinglynn @4thhouseontheleft I‘ll have to try that. 👍🏻 Thanks! 6y
Bookladylinda So I have a last minute question. Do you have to have a Fitbit to join this challenge??? I have an Apple Watch, I have a little Zip Fitbit but honestly have no idea where it could be. 6y
wanderinglynn @Bookladylinda No, there was no requirement that you had to have a fitbit. Goals were to be based on your individual needs/abilities. 6y
Read4life These goals are great. I‘m with Dexter in regards to the rain. I don‘t mind if it rains, I just don‘t want to be out in it. 🌂⛈ 6y
Bookladylinda @wanderinglynn ok, I guess I was thinking that people would be sharing their goals via Fitbit. Thank you! I know the challenges start today and I was thinking of signing up but wanted to check that first. 6y

🍭 Top song on my 18th birthday was either All for You by Janet Jackson or Lady Marmalade
🍭🍭 Gemini
🍭🍭🍭 Harper Lee. To Kill A Mockingbird has been my favorite book since the 7th grade. Atticus isn't the direct reason I became a lawyer, but it probably contributed
🍭🍭🍭🍭 👋🏻👋🏻

tournevis So not the OG Lady Marmalade, obviously. 6y
Jilly6183 @tournevis definitely not 😂 6y

I‘ve loved looking at everyone‘s #90sspringfling photos and had to go digging. The 90s was a tough decade for me, but when I went to look for photos I realized I was quite the world traveler that decade, having traveled to Norway three times (top left & right), and my mom took me to Switzerland to find my roots (bottom left) and celebrate graduating from law school. If not for the 90s, I wouldn‘t be who I am today.

Pickpick

Why do I think this is an important read? Because it creates awareness that there exists a system that is unfair mostly to the poor, women, the discriminated, and the young - "a system that continues to treat the rich and guilty better than the poor and innocent". This quote right here is what scares me: "Finality, not fairness, had become the new priority in death penalty jurisprudence."

Jee_HookedOnBookz @AmyG they're making it into a movie too! 6y
thebluestocking I think this is a phenomenal book. It sheds so much light on the US criminal justice system. 6y

Jee_HookedOnBookz @thebluestocking I agree with you! Phenomenal is the right word to describe it! Every case I read was shocking. So unbelievable yet true! 6y
TheBookHippie I‘ve read it three times!!!! It is what I see in court ... 6y
TheBookHippie @AmyG you will love it!!! 6y
Jee_HookedOnBookz @TheBookHippie omg if only I could chat with you! Coz I'd love to hear your experiences! 6y
TheBookHippie @Jee_HookedOnBookz well now I know what to write to you. I‘ll send a story a time. 6y
Jee_HookedOnBookz @TheBookHippie omg... THANK YOU THANK YOU SO SO MUCH! This means the world to me! Thank you!! ❤️❤️😭I'm touched! 6y
Jee_HookedOnBookz @TheBookHippie I just replied your mail. Will be sending out replies soon! 6y
thebluestocking @TheBookHippie Are you an attorney too? There are quite a lot of us around here. 😉 #lawyersoflitsy 6y
TheBookHippie @thebluestocking No. I feel I know the law very well though!! The youth I mentor are in court weekly at least one of them for various reasons. I‘m in year 31 mentoring. My brother in law is the prosecuting attorney for the county- another brother in law is a cop for the city. I‘m most often on the opposite side of either of them . As a survivor I was in court for me for over 5 years straight. I have so much respect for attorneys both sides ❤️. 6y
TheBookHippie @thebluestocking my good friend is an immigration lawyer. I feed her and bring her coffee, paper towel, TP and Kleenex ...she works ALLTHETIME. 6y
thebluestocking @TheBookHippie That‘s super cool that you mentor youth, especially as a survivor. And that‘s more contact with courts than I have!! 😂Moat attorneys I know work way too much, but I try really hard not to. 6y
TheBookHippie @thebluestocking I have a deposition at 9am tomorrow 🤣 6y
thebluestocking @TheBookHippie Those can be intense. For you? Or for someone else? I‘ve never been deposed personally but I‘ve taken many of them. 6y
Jee_HookedOnBookz @TheBookHippie you're one amazing person!! I salute volunteers like you! Thank you so much for what you do! ❤️😘 6y
TheBookHippie @thebluestocking It‘s me -on behalf of a kiddo. I‘ve done them a lot.. I‘m feared, so that helps 🤣. Apparently I‘m intimidating. Who knew. 6y
TheBookHippie @Jee_HookedOnBookz ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 6y
AmyG @Jee_HookedOnBookz @TheBookHippie Thank you. I am now going to read this soon and pass onto my daughter. She is a school counselor and many of her kiddos have family members who have had to deal with the criminal justice system. 6y
