Thanks Ina Garten!

Bookworm54 It looks great! ☺️ 2y
tpixie @Bookworm54 thanks! I wish I had made it yesterday so it could set a little longer. Hopefully it turns out good!! It‘s Barefoot Contessa though so that‘s pretty trustworthy! The recipe also calls for kale but I know the people that we are eating with would not want that! (edited) 2y
Bookworm54 Sounds like a delicious addition if you enjoy kale though! Have fun at the party 😋 2y

tpixie @Bookworm54 yes! Next time I‘ll make it with kale! Thanks have a great day!! 2y
peaKnit I Love Ina! 2y
tpixie @peaknit yes!! Yummy! 2y
rockpools Lovely! I‘ve heard nothing but positive about her cookbooks/recipes - maybe I should look them out. 2y
tpixie @rockpools there were my mom‘s & are my sister‘s favorite go- to cookbooks , so I like cooking from them as a family tradition. If you like it, you should try her Perfect roasted chicken & oh my! Her French Onion Dip 2y
tpixie @rockpools ** the onions need to cool** I love with Fritos. My sister uses the leftovers on sandwiches 🥪. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/pan-fried-onion-dip-recipe-194069... 2y
rockpools @tpixie That sounds so good! I always have more onions that I know what to do with. 2y
tpixie @rockpools yes! 💛💛💛 2y

#NeglectedCookbooks ( RachelO I think this is your! 😊)

This weekend I had fun cooking with my oldest son. We made Boeuf Bourguignon. It was sooo delicious!
The Barefoot Contessa never disappoints.

LeahBergen That looks delicious! 3y
Cathythoughts Looks divine. I‘d love some 👍❤️ 3y
tpixie @LeahBergen @cathythoughts it was so good! I‘m dreaming about it every day still! 3y

Maw Broon's Cookbook | Waverley Books
post image

This is fun. It‘s a ‘facsimile‘ cookbook, complete with doodles, notes & sarcy comments, & a whole bunch of traditional(ish) Scottish recipes.

In shock news, today I actually made the breakfast baps from it, along with Delia‘s leek & potato soup. In more shock news, I‘d do both again!

Tagging @tpixie as this falls under the long-neglected #neglectedcookbooks tag - not sure I‘ll manage a new recipe a month, but I‘m going to give it another try 😋

tpixie @rockpools Congrats on your find and your new recipes!! Thanks so much for the tag!!! 💗💗💗 Yes, I need to work on new recipes, also! Potato leek soup sounds really good! The temperature dropped 30 degrees today!! (edited) 4y
Pageturner1 what is a breakfast bap? your food sounds good. 4y
Crinoline_Laphroaig Love facsimile cookbooks. I have a Swiss one that I love. And also facsimile gardening book 4y

LeahBergen Oh , this sounds fabulous. Stacked! 4y
MsMelissa Does it have a recipe for Scotch Broth soup? It‘s my favourite soup 🥣 4y
rabbitprincess My mum needs this book! We have a lot of Broons and Oor Wullie collections at home 😊 4y
rockpools @tpixie Wow! It seems to have turned to Autumn really quickly here too. Have had to turn the heating on and everything. Brrr! 4y
rockpools @Pageturner1 Aw, thanks! A bap is a type of bread roll - not entirely sure mine were as they should be. I‘ve always thought of them as soft and flat, but mine came out quite crispy. Edible though 😂😂 (I‘m not the world‘s best cook - I have pretty low expectations!!) 4y
rockpools @Crinoline_Laphroaig My gran used to have The Country Diary - I loved poring over it when I was little. So pretty! I think this is compiled from a long-running newspaper column/something rather than being a genuine ‘found‘ cookbook - but it‘s still lots of fun & real recipes @LeahBergen 4y
rockpools @rabbitprincess Is your family Scottish? I hadn‘t come across the Broons before. Oor Wullie is very familiar though... 4y
rockpools @Book_Fiend_Melissa I‘ll have a look! 4y
Cathythoughts Beautiful post ... dusting sugar 😋 4y
ConfessionofaBookaholic Love this! I just moved to Scotland and I‘ve been looking for traditional Scottish cooking books 🤗 4y
rabbitprincess @rockpools My great-grandmother was from Glasgow, which is about as close as I get! We don't have any close family there anymore though; it would all be like third cousins twice removed at this point 4y

Lol A few years ago I decided that once a month I was going to try a new recipe from a cookbook I had and post it. I‘ve only done it a few times. But once a month my calendar reminds me that I‘m supposed to do it and tag a couple Littens! 😂🤪😜📚 👩‍🍳 🥘
#NeglectedCookBooks

Gissy We are waiting here!☺️ 4y
rockpools Oh my! That *was* a few years ago. I should give it another go really. I‘m still the world‘s least enthusiastic cook, I still get gifted a beautiful new cookbook twice a year, and they‘re still neglected! I share a house with my mum who has numerous dietary requirements, which I don‘t have the skills/enthusiasm to work round, so I end up cooking the same things over and over... 4y
tpixie @Gissy lol 😂 maybe this weekend.. I have a few posted under #NeglectedCookBooks (edited) 4y

tpixie @Tamra yes! It was fun the few times I did it then life got in the way I really need to get back on it!! 4y
Tamra @tpixie life does get in the way of a number of fun things! 4y
LeahBergen I‘ve told myself to start doing this after a recent cookbook library tidying. 😆 4y
tpixie @Tamra lol it sure does! ♥️📚🎉♥️ 4y
tpixie @LeahBergen good luck! I‘ve used the # #NeglectedCookbooks (edited) 4y

[DELETED] 3803335244 Haha! I do that all the time. Such a lovely cookbook. I hope to pass my cookbooks to my daughters. My mom never really cooked growing up. Lol 😂 7y
Tamra @MaureenMc For me it‘s the Russian Tea Cakes that bring back the memories. 😋 7y
Tamra @ForeverNerdy funny, neither was mine. But we did make some cookies and popcorn balls at Xmas. 😊 7y
Tamra @Jaimelire yes! And the church ones that grandmas like to give. 😌 7y
Tamra @ladym30 I‘ve been pleasantly surprised at how many people recognize it! 7y
Tamra @miralunasbooknook I can‘t believe it‘s only a week! 😫 7y
[DELETED] 3803335244 Do you have Julia Child‘s cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking? We should do a recipe a week together! If not that‘s ok too. I‘m doing a recipe a week from her book next year. And reading about her. 7y
tpixie Love the family heirloom! 7y
tpixie @ForeverNerdy Good Luck with your challenge !! we kind of dwindled out, but we were cooking once a month- from cookbooks- @RachelO

Last post for the night:

A #puremorning starts with breakfast... Delicious French toast on page 127 specifically... 😋

Seriously though, this cook book is amazing. Super simple recipes, with basic ingredients, and easy to follow instructions. As someone who learned to appreciate the culinary arts much later in life, this book has been a life saver.

#90sinJuly #cookbooks #breakfast

heikemarie We have the BG&G for diabetes which we like (for husband). My@go-to is the Betty Crocker - we had one growing up and my dad bought me my own when I struck out into the world. 7y
Cinfhen Ha! Love this post and french toast❤️❤️❤️ 7y
EchoLogical @inwhichHeikereadsharder That's so sweet! I haven't tried the Betty Crocker one but my mother in law owns a copy and she's always cooking up something scrumptious when we visit. I might have to give it shot. 7y

EchoLogical @inwhichHeikereadsharder I'm curious to see which cookbooks other Littens enjoy. We should start a post for it one day! 📚🍛🍝🍕 7y
tpixie @inwhichHeikereadsharder @EchoLogical I love the Barefoot Contessa- probably because hers were my mom's and sister's go-to's. I haven't for awhile but @RachelO
@GlitteryOtters & I tried to cook out of a cookbook monthly
#neglectedcookbooks
7y
EchoLogical @tpixie LOL at the #neglectedcookbooks! I totally understand. I haven't tried the Barefoot Contessa's either. I'll have to look into it. ☺ 7y
tpixie @EchoLogical her roasted chicken! Who knew fennel tasted so good!! Here's a video link. (let's cheat without the book!!) http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/perfect-roast-chicken-recipe-19405... 7y
tpixie 1 (5 to 6 pound) roasting chicken
• Kosher salt
• Freshly ground black pepper
• 1 large bunch fresh thyme, plus 20 sprigs
• 1 lemon, halved
• 1 head garlic, cut in half crosswise
• 2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter, melted
• 1 large yellow onion, thickly sliced
• 4 carrots cut into 2-inch chunks
• 1 bulb of fennel, tops removed, and cut into wedges
• Olive oil
7y
EchoLogical @tpixie Thank you! I'm gonna try this for Sunday dinner! 7y
tpixie 1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
2. Cut up & Place the onions, carrots, and fennel in a roasting pan. Toss with salt, pepper, 20 sprigs of thyme, and olive oil. Spread around the bottom of the roasting pan. 3. Remove the chicken giblets. Rinse the chicken inside and out. Remove any excess fat and leftover pin feathers and pat the outside dry. Liberally salt and pepper the inside of the chicken.
7y
tpixie 4. Stuff the cavity with the bunch of thyme, both halves of lemon, and all the garlic. Brush the outside of the chicken with the butter and sprinkle again with salt and pepper. Tie the legs together with kitchen string and tuck the wing tips under the body of the chicken.
5. Place the chicken on top.
6. Roast the chicken for 1 1/2 hours, or until the juices run clear when you cut between a leg and thigh.
7y
tpixie 7. Remove the chicken and vegetables to a platter and cover with aluminum foil for about 20 minutes.
8. Slice the chicken onto a platter and serve it with the vegetables.
7y
tpixie @EchoLogical hope you enjoy! It makes the house smell great too!! I know it's so easy to buy a roasted chicken from the grocery store now but I think it still has less salt and just more natural flavoring. 7y
tpixie ( I don't move it to a platter when I cover it with foil- I just keep it in my Pyrex baking dish) 7y
