The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook
The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook | Ina Garten
5 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
For more than twenty years, Barefoot Contessa, the acclaimed specialty food store, has been cooking and baking extraordinary dishes for enthusiastic customers in the Hamptons. For many of those years, people have tried to get the exuberant owner, Ina Garten, to share the secrets of her store. Finally, the energy and style that make Barefoot Contessa such a special place are shown here, with dozens of recipes and more than 160 breathtaking photographs, in The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook. Ina's most popular recipes use familiar ingredients, but they taste even better than you would expect. Her Pan-Fried Onion Dip is the real thing, with slowly car-amelized onions and fresh sour cream. Tomato soup is created from oven-roasted tomatoes and fresh basil to intensify the flavors. Meat loaf is as good as your grandmother's, but it's healthier because it's made with ground turkey and fresh herbs. The light and flaky Maple-Oatmeal Scones are baked with rolled oats, whole wheat, and real maple syrup. Now these and other famous Barefoot Contessa recipes can be prepared at home. Ina says that before she owned a specialty food store she often spent a week making dinner for six friends. Her experience at Barefoot Contessa has given her hundreds of ideas for creating wonderful parties in a few hours. And they're all in this book. Crab Cakes with Rmoulade Sauce can be stored overnight in the refrigerator and sauted just before the guests arrive. Cheddar Corn Chowder can be made days ahead, reheated, and served with a salad and bread for a delicious autumn lunch. The ingredients for Grilled Salmon Salad can all be prepared ahead and tossed together before serving. The batter for the Raspberry Corn Muffins can be mixed a day before and popped into the oven just before breakfast. Ina Garten teaches us how to entertain with style, simplicity, and a relaxed sense of fun. There are notes throughout the book for giving cocktail parties, lunches, and dinner parties where everything is done before the guests arrive. And there are easy instructions for creating gorgeous party platters that don't even require you to cook! With Ina Garten and The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook, you have the perfect recipe for hosting parties that are easy and fun for everyone--including the cook. From the Hardcover edition.

Bookworm54 It looks great! ☺️ 2y
tpixie @Bookworm54 thanks! I wish I had made it yesterday so it could set a little longer. Hopefully it turns out good!! It‘s Barefoot Contessa though so that‘s pretty trustworthy! The recipe also calls for kale but I know the people that we are eating with would not want that! (edited) 2y
Bookworm54 Sounds like a delicious addition if you enjoy kale though! Have fun at the party 😋 2y

tpixie @peaknit yes!! Yummy! 2y
rockpools Lovely! I‘ve heard nothing but positive about her cookbooks/recipes - maybe I should look them out. 2y
tpixie @rockpools there were my mom‘s & are my sister‘s favorite go- to cookbooks , so I like cooking from them as a family tradition. If you like it, you should try her Perfect roasted chicken & oh my! Her French Onion Dip 2y
tpixie @rockpools ** the onions need to cool** I love with Fritos. My sister uses the leftovers on sandwiches 🥪. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/pan-fried-onion-dip-recipe-194069... 2y
rockpools @tpixie That sounds so good! I always have more onions that I know what to do with. 2y

SheReadsAndWrites Thank you so much for the tag but to be honest, I don't really cook! 😬 My husband does. I love to eat. 😋 And I love novels about cooking and food. But I'm not sure that can count here. 😂 (edited) 3y

So I made Ina's brownies and decided to throw in a couple of Hershey Symphony toffee bars in the middle of the batter to see what that would do. 😲 Y'all - we need to just throw in those candy bars in everything! That's right - I ate a corner piece of what I'm taking to guests 😀

Lizpixie Yum! I love the chewy, pudding like brownies, warm, with vanilla bean or salted caramel ice cream on top. Now I have cravings!🤤 7y
LauraBeth @Lizpixie I wish you were my neighbor and I'd have you over 😀 I love these brownies because they taste like coffee 😋 7y
Smrloomis You definitely need to test it before you offer it to other people! 👍🏽 7y

rabbitprincess That's why I bring stuff over on plates, pre-cut; you can't tell how much quality control I performed 😁 7y
Hollie The corners are my favorite! 7y
christineandbooks This post is pure evil... Sending hubby out for ingredients...😈🍫 7y
TheLondonBookworm 😍😍😍😍 7y
vivastory Toffee makes everything better 7y
Cinfhen Thanks for my sugar fix @LauraBeth and I do the same @rabbitprincess no one needs to know how much sampling I did 😉 7y
Vexingcircumstance Yeah if you cut them in bars and put them in a different dish then you can't tell you are any lol 7y
LeahBergen #Bitsy looks a little judgy here 😂 7y
Dragon Yummy, chocolate brownies 😋 7y
lynneamch Ina's brownies are my go to for incredible ooey chocolaty goodness. Sad story: one time a wine glass fell out of the cupboard and shattered beside the bowl of batter. I baked it anyway, but knew I couldn't take a chance serving it. I had to ask my husband to throw them away. Couldn't bear to do it myself. Obviously, I'm still not over it. 😭😭😭 7y
LauraBeth Agree @Smrloomis! I need to know they are okay to serve 😂 7y
LauraBeth @Hollie see - this is why I like you 😀 7y
LauraBeth @christineandbooks you have some chocolatey deliciousness coming your way 😀😈 7y
LauraBeth @vivastory those are some wise words! 😀 7y
LauraBeth @Cinfhen 😍😍 7y
Lmstraubie It's only wise that you try this new recipe before serving it to friends. 😉 7y
LauraBeth @LeahBergen her idea of a delicious snack comes from the cat litter box - so she can't be judgy 😂 7y
LauraBeth @Vexingcircumstance, @rabbitprincess pre-cut, on a plate 😀👌 7y
LauraBeth @lynneamch oh no! I had to take a moment of silence just now for those brownies. If I lived near you - then you could have just called me because I would have eaten those glass shard brownies. Little bit of wine with them and it would have been fine 😀 7y
LauraBeth @Lmstraubie I know, right? Because what if I accidentally forgot to put the sugar in or something? I'd never know! 7y
LauraBeth @Dragon, @TheLondonBookworm Ina G never disappoints 😀 7y
Serotonin Oh my yummy 😋 😋 😋 7y
AlaMich @LauraBeth OMG, our dog used to do that. So disgusting!! 🤢 7y
LauraBeth @AlaMich we finally did break her from it but it was SO gross! 7y
LauraBeth @Serotonin 😀😀 7y
melbeautyandbooks Sounds fabulous! 7y
Lizpixie @LauraBeth I wish I was your neighbour too! I'd smell those brownies baking & id be over your place, coffee mug in hand☕️🍪🍰🍫 7y
Faibka Sounds delicious! I've missed those cute puppy eyes! 💕🐶 7y
SaraFair 1. A good friend would be understanding and delighted that you are trying to toss in more goodness for them and that a corner is gone. 2. Are you known to drop crumbs? My dog follows those that drop crumbs (husband steps on dog feet). 7y
Cinfhen Not being nosy, just checking in to see if all is ok?!? Miss you on Litsy 💕 7y
LauraBeth Awww - thanks @Cinfhen 😽😽I've been trying to get back in my running groove so I've been outside. 🏃‍♀️🌷 and I've just been reading! I had some books due back to the library so I had to focus 😀 7y
LauraBeth @SaraFair I'm not so much a crumb dropper as I am, "I'll just give you a piece of what I have, Bitsy..." although she doesn't get chocolate so she didn't get any brownie ? 7y
LauraBeth @Faibka 💕😀 7y
LauraBeth They were good @melbeautyandbooks 😀 7y
