#NuYear #day9 #PlayLikeGod This novel not only has one of my all time favourite covers (isn‘t it gorgeous!) but also is one of the most batshit crazy story about what gods are and the people who fight to become one. I‘m not going to give away the story, you really need to read it, but be warned. There is a lot of violence & gore involved. And the occasional guy in a tutu.

Mommamanzi Sounds like perfection! Haha 7y
emilyhaldi I'm planning on reading this soon just bc I'm so darn curious after reading all of the bizarre reviews on litsy!! 7y
tpixie @Mommamanzi @Lizpixie @emilyhaldi agree this is a great cover! Also agree this is the weirdest, most bizarre book. Also very violent and much gore. I‘m still not certain what I think of it!! 7y
RebelReader I think from these comments that I must read this book so I agree @emilyhaldi I'm very curious! 7y
TrishB It‘s a crazy ride of a book!! 7y

Least favorite of Greg Iles!!! I was the last and only person to post about this book! Anyone read it? 📚📚

Rachbb3 I bailed on this book years ago. I can't remember how far I got but I know I didn't finish. Greg Iles is a favorite so this was a disappointment. 😬 7y
CoverToCoverGirl Is this about a super computer or some such.. if so that was the one I was told to avoid.. sorry you collided with it! 🤨 7y
Cinfhen It's new to me🤷‍♀️ 7y

TrishB Not even heard of this one! 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Rachbb3 totally agree!!! 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @CoverToCoverGirl yes!! Just avoid this one! All Of his other books are awesome! 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Cinfhen This book was very odd! Very different from anything he has ever written! 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @TrishB it was written many years ago I can‘t remember the publishing date. I‘m not home or I would look! No need to waste your time in my opinion!! 7y
dragondrool I liked it fine, but it's nothing at all like the spectacular Penn Cage series. 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @dragondrool ikr!! Love Penn Cage!! Book crush!! 🔥 7y

Mort(e) | Robert Repino
post image

Some stories you forget, some stories you remember... and some stories haunt you.

And the story of Mort(e), a house cat who just wants to find the dog he loves in a world where giant ants #PlayLikeGod and turn animals into weapons in their war against humanity, still haunts me.

#FindSheba #NuYear

daena I absolutely LOVED Morte. I really need to read the other two already! 7y
BillBlume I had a blast reading Mort(e). Even got to meet Robert Repino when D‘Arc came out. He was a really fun guy to meet. 7y
Cinfhen Your blurb sounds intriguing 🤗🤗🤗 7y

TrishB Wow - definitely a different book! 7y
JazzFeathers That sounds so weird! 7y
readinginthedark Haunts you in a “beautiful but sad” way or a “causing horrifying and graphic dreams” kind of way? 7y

#NuYear #PlayLikegod I can think of no better example in a book for this. When Christian extremists come into power and practice their insane beliefs. Stripping women of not only their basic human rights but their very name. “A rat in a maze is free to go anywhere as long as it stays inside the maze” Pics from my #Folio edition ❤️📚

Riveted_Reader_Melissa That‘s gorgeously done. 7y

This memoir caught my eye on my recent #bookoutlet haul... The unbelievable-sounding story of Ruth Wariner's childhood growing up in a polygamist community in Mexico. Her father, believing himself to be a prophet, teaches that God will punish wicked people by destroying the world. Wariner writes of her slow discovery that perhaps she wants a different, and better, life for herself outside of her family's community.

britt_brooke @vivastory Right you are! I read it last year. 😁 It‘s good, but so tough at times. (edited) 7y

The Dumb House | John Burnside
post image

In this weird and very disturbing novel, Burnside introduces us to Luke, who likes to #playlikegod. Luke wants to learn where in the body the soul resides, and he goes to great lenghts to find the answer to his question.

#NuYear

Tamra That does sound disturbing! 7y
LeahBergen I‘ve had this one stacked for a while. It sounds bizarre! 7y
EvieBee This is on my Book Depository wishlist, but had no idea it was so sinister. As in murder? 7y

Cinfhen Creepy!!! 7y
TrishB Sounds intriguing! 7y
Kalalalatja @Tamra @LeahBergen @EvieBee @Cinfhen @TrishB it is dark, creepy and definitely disturbing. If I remember correctly, there is some violence to animals and children, so it might be a trigger for some people. 7y
erzascarletbookgasm Intriguing and sounds what I‘ll read, but violence to children and animals?...now I dunno to stack or not 7y
Kalalalatja @Tamra @erzascarletbookgasm violence might be the wrong word to use. But he does experiment on animals and children, and not in ways that would be approved by an ethics board. I did really like it, in spite of the disturbing things happening. It was a bit like Lolita, were the subject matter is horrible, but it is written in a way, so you can still read it, if that makes sense? 7y

Pickpick

#NuYear #PlayLikeGod
@Cinfhen @TrishB

A group of 12 find that they are reincarnated as deities. The catch is they only have 2 years to live.
#comics

... Also, Lucifer modeled after David Bowie is a big win in my books!😍

Knightingale Let us know what you think. I have conflicting feelings about that book. 7y
GrilledCheeseSamurai @Knightingale I enjoyed it. I had pretty low expectations going into it though, picked it up for 50% off and after finishing it I found myself pleasantly surprised. That said, I read this awhile back now and I still haven't picked up the 2nd volume. Don't know why. I will when the mood strikes, I suppose. I'd give it 3⭐'s. 👍 7y
Cinfhen The cover is awesome 🖤 7y

TrishB What @Cinfhen said 👍🏻 7y
Dorianna I was pleasantly surprised by this series too but I also only read the first volume. 7y
Knightingale @GrilledCheeseSamurai I loved the art and I thought the concept was inspired. They could@have gone in so many directions with the premise, but I just wasn‘t thrilled about what direction they chose to go in. Pretty book, but I didn‘t feel the need to continue. 7y

Coming up with a fantastical world like the one in this trilogy means the author knows how to #PlayLikeGod.

Apart from that, Brimstone's work is also very close to playing God.

#NuYear @Cinfhen @TrishB

Cinfhen Another series I keep seeing but haven't tried 🙄 7y
the-flashley Oh I haven‘t seen this cover before! I think I like it better than the other one. 7y
TrishB @Cinfhen I got this one for my b/day but I‘m trying to finish existing series but starting more new ones! 7y
Kalalalatja Great pick 👏👏 7y

This came to mind for #playlikegod. Although she has been dead for over 60 years, Henrietta‘s cells, known as HeLa, are still alive. This was a fascinating read, which is a lot coming from me, as I am super picky about non fic. Skloot was able to give a voice to someone that unknowingly gave a lot to the medical and scientific community. A lot of ethical questions. #nuyear

TrishB A good read 👍🏻 7y
Cinfhen This was a fascinating read! I felt scholarly 🤓 7y
britt_brooke Such an interesting, but sad, read. 7y
emilyhaldi I suppose I need to read this? 7y
