😐

Bit underwhelming and an abrupt ending.

Gorgeous psychological descriptions of what goes on in Edward's mind, but all in all I was missing something.

Read with #SheSaid for April, it‘s a well-researched & well-written look at why the Second Amendment was set up to fail Blacks from the get-go. The author expertly pulls facts & data together & it had me both horrified & angry.

The last sentence says it all “The Second is lethal; steeped in anti-Blackness, it is the loaded weapon laying around just waiting for the hand of some authority to put it to use.”

Now that I‘m home from Malice Domestic, I can turn my attention to what I plan to read for the next #readathon
-I met Gigi Pandian at dinner, so now I really need to finish her book!
-The Bullet That Missed is for next week‘s book club.
-A few more chapters of Emma 😎
-The Lola Quartet is for May‘s #authoramonth
-March is slow going, so we‘ll see how that goes.
There‘s one more book I plan to finish that‘s still in my car…

Finished last night for #SundayBuddyRead this book was a surprise for me. A quietly beautiful telling of the simple life of a resilient woman. Short in pages & it deserves a slowly savored read. Thanks to @TheBookHippie for choosing it & hosting it so well. It will be one of my favorites for 2024. Lovely.

On the hottest day of the summer, we wait for Molly on the riverbank, desperate to slip into the cool water. But as the sun starts to fade, it‘s clear she isn‘t coming. We‘ll never see our friend again…

EadieB Years later, after an unexpected inheritance, Briony returns to her godmother‘s grand countryside home where she spent her teenage years. Despite its idyllic appearance, the old stone house carries memories Briony would rather forget. To escape the controlling behaviour of her godmother‘s son, Jeremy, Briony spent every possible moment with her best friends, Molly and Samantha, until the day Molly vanished without a trace. 1d

Briony is certain Molly was keeping a secret in those final days. Why else was she acting so strangely? And why did Briony constantly feel like they were being watched? When Briony discovers Molly‘s decades-old bathing suit in a locked part of the house, she begins to piece together what happened to her friend. But, as more skeletons come to light, is Briony ready to uncover the truth after so many years?

This is a slow-paced mystery that kept me curious and guessing from the start to the surprising ending. It is told in alternating timelines from the 1980's and present time. The characters are well-developed with an interesting plot. A good thriller with twists and turns and POV of several characters, mainly Briony. This was a very enjoyable book with a return to the past and how the events impacted the people they became.

EadieB Briony, in the past, lived with her godmother, Alice, and her son, Jeremy. Briony has now inherited Summerdine and all of its secrets. While waiting for Molly to go swimming, Samantha and Briny realize that Molly goes missing. They figure that Jeremy must have something to do with Molly's missing. If you like secrets then you will love this book. 1d

Mehso-so

Not saying it's a pan, but it's definitely not a pick.

The Colorado Rockies, a billionaire with a vision to de-extinct the large animals from the pleistocene period and making them the attraction of his lodge and camping resort. What could possibly go wrong?

If you liked Jurassic Park, think of this as the low budget version where two gruesome murders lead to an investigation with ice-age creatures in the background.⬇️

julesG I had an inkling what went on before the second person was killed, which means in chapter one. I knew I was right before the chapters moved into the double digits. From then on it dragged and I wondered how no one even came up with the motive for the murders (which doesn't makes lot of sense anyways) until the evidence was right in front of them.⬇️ 1d
julesG Should have listened to my instincts, if the author's name is printed larger than the title of the book, steer clear. 1d

Read along with #Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent I‘m giving it a soft pick. It was enjoyable & I liked the MC Jane & also Mr. Vincent, but the other characters not so much & while I enjoyed the magical elements, I felt like the world-building around them wasn‘t deep enough. But, overall, it was a nice nod to Jane Austen while still maintaining its own story. I may read more in the series if it ⬇️

DebinHawaii …gets in my way but probably won‘t rush to seek it out. Big thanks to @StayCurious for all her work in hosting this group as this is our last read. You rock! 🤗💛😎 2d
