That ending....
I really love where this series is going.
The double POV was a delightful change. Adrian's voice is definitely what was missing in the previous books.

Can't wait to start the next book.

So disappointing!
This series started out fantastic, I was so glad to find a YA that wasn't all Love and Butterflies. But it just went down hill from there; concluding with this disjointed story.
It's almost as if what happened in the first book and the conclusion of the series have nothing to do with one another.

TheSpineView Bummer! Hopefully the next book is better. 1y

dabbe Is the setting the hell that is Phoenix in the summer? 🤣🤣🤣 2y
CBee @dabbe ha! I think Alabama is about the same except we get the extra fresh hell that is humidity 🥵 This one is set in Ohio! 2y
dabbe @CBee Oh yeah, the humidity. Everyone says Phoenix is a dry heat, and it is ... until monsoon season. Then it's 115 with 70-90% dew point. Is Alabama like 90% and 90% humidity? That would be the worst. I visited Hong Kong years ago in April, and that was the weather. All I did was stay in the hotel and sit in front of the air conditioner. 🤣 2y
CBee @dabbe that‘s about right! When you walk outside it‘s like walking through soup 🥵😩 2y

I really enjoyed this slow-burn, friends to more story. The characters were finely drawn, complex, and kind to each other. The writing we lovely too, I will read more from Lacie Waldon. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #Roll100 @PuddleJumper #Pantone2023 #Tangelo #PeachPink @Clwojick

This wasn't for me.
It's not a bad story, but personally there's just too many things I dislike.

Another book I finished this week. I had a hard time rating this one because for the first half of the book I felt sort of blah about Ava‘s story. But the second half I enjoyed much more.

I liked Ava‘s thoughts on grammar and some of her pointed conversations. And her relationship with Edith seemed more interesting than her one with Julian… which makes sense once we got a bit more of Ava‘s backstory towards the end. Liked it, didn‘t love it. ⬇️

MeganAnn 1/2: This was one off of @xicanti ‘s #auldlangspine list that I didn‘t get to last month. And they compared it‘s tone to Fault Lines which I completely loved — I think that‘s an accurate comparison and if you liked one you may like the other. Personally I connected better with the MC in Fault Lines, but a different person might connect better with Ava‘s story here. (edited) 2y
MeganAnn 2/2: I think the ages of the characters is a contributing factor to that as I‘m at a stage closer to Mizuki from Fault Lines as a mother comparing her younger self with who she is now while Ava is younger and sort of unsure of who she is. In the end I did appreciate the themes of classism and queerness here, just didn‘t love it as much as I wanted to. But I did check off #tangelo and #crystalrose for #pantone2023 @Clwojick 2y
xicanti I‘m glad you got something out of it, even if it wasn‘t a fave! I found the first third tedious and ordinary, but then it all clicked into place for me and I went from about to bail to totally obsessed. 2y

This is the conclusion to The Cadence duology. It starts out with Adaira in the West adjusting to her new family, Jack sulking in the East and Torin as the new Lord of The Tamerlains.
I love Torin, he is the Aragon of these books and he's fantastic ❤️

Did I understand ALL the science in this? No. But I actually understood almost all of it. The premise of explaining physics without any math was perfect for someone like me. I also particularly appreciated the links Zukav made between (then) cutting edge science and centuries old eastern philosophy, as that was something that had bearing on my own life. #Pantone2023 #Tangelo #Roll100 #Sharreadathon @Clwojick @PuddleJumper @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

IndoorDame I haven‘t decided if I‘m going to seek out what has changed since this publication in more hard science type books, but either way I‘m glad to have this base knowledge. 2y

This is a low pick for me. I enjoyed the sketches of each of the names on the list and whilst clearly the author embraced how similar the set up is to Agatha Christie‘s And then there were none it felt flat in comparison #pantone2023 #tangelo

Well this was a whole heap of fun! The Lumberjanes follow a treasure map and discover a mysterious statue, broken into pieces, in the woods.
