TheAromaofBooks Like I want to be mad at Amelia, but I feel like she is at least trying to do her best for other people instead of thinking of herself. Her biggest mistake was falling in love with the person she was literally told to fall in love with her entire life, so it's even kind of hard to fault her for that. Osborne Sr gloating about her being poor and broken was absolutely infuriating. 1y
Cuilin Why would Amelia give up her son, they disowned their own son!! Boggles the mind! As for Georgy he‘s s not bothered with the move, but has he had a change of heart giving money to the little sweep! Where‘s Dobbin??? 1y

Cuilin @TheAromaofBooks Osborne is despicable!! 1y
TheBookHippie @Cuilin THIS!!!! Why????? 1y
mcctrish Lord Steyne makes me laugh #itoldyouso #bareacrebitches put me back on #teambecky honestly @TheAromaofBooks I don‘t know who I hate more Osborne Sr or Emmy‘s dad ? Maybe Emmy‘s dad, her stupid blind devotion to him and he is actually the root of all her troubles #wherethefuckisdobbin 1y
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish I have serious anxiety over the fact that Emmy handed over all that money! He‘s going to blow it all! 1y
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead Becky needs to come over and teach her some life skills 1y
Bookwormjillk I feel like Emmy picked her dad over Georgy and I don‘t live that. And I had such high hopes when we were told to expect a vulgar incident. 1y
dabbe If Georgy 2.0 turns out to be worse than George 1.0, I will really be pissed! And where oh where is the FAIR in all this vanity? 1y
willaful @dabbe Word!

@Bookwormjillk I half thought Becky was actually going to kill her husband! Did anyone guess the charades? My brain is not at its best and I was clueless. Heheh. Austen joke.

BarkingMadRead @IndoorDame girlfriend needs to calm down 🤣🤣 1y

TheBookHippie @BarkingMadRead @IndoorDame someone needs a “chill pill” 🙃 1y
mcctrish Everyone has worked themselves up in quite the lather, I‘m still #teambecky but Mrs Bute is meddlesome 1y
dabbe So Sir Pit and Miss Crawley just LOVE Becky to death--until that lowdown hussy marries Rawdon. WTH? If she's good enough to be THE new Mrs. Crawley, why isn't she good enough to just be a Crawley? #thesepeople #sheeshkabob 1y
eeclayton @dabbe I suspect Miss Crawley would have been just as mad had Becky married Sir Pitt, she was only nice about it after the refusal was made. 1y
willaful @eeclayton right there with you! 1y
Bookwormjillk That was weird 1y
SamAnne This book is laugh out loud funny. 1y
dabbe @eeclayton Totally agree. 1y
TheAromaofBooks I was so shocked to read that Sir Pitt went home and trashed all Becky's stuff! That seemed a bit dramatic! 1y
BarkingMadRead @TheAromaofBooks so childish! I was so surprised! 1y

Cuilin #baronetisthepitts interesting family indeed. Older sons beware??? Yet I hope she gets to marry well. Hmm 🤔 1y
mcctrish I am LOVING this book! How I managed to not read it is beyond me?! I still love Becky, I admire her gumption and I still thinks she‘s well clear of Jos. #whyareallthemendismalinvanityfair #beatsagnesgraygovernesswise 1y

dabbe And another one about a governess with a crappy family (so far). Good call on that, @mcctrish! I'm also not sure how I feel yet about Becky. #thejuryisstillout 1y
SamAnne I loved the Mysteries of Adolpho reference. I‘m laughing out loud a lot. I don‘t think we are supposed to like any character in this novel! 1y
willaful @SameAnne I think you're right on the money there! 1y
AnnR I'm enjoying the writing and comedic narrator, however not sure if I'm #teamBecky or not. I know she is just looking out for her best interests, as nobody else is going to help her. Sometimes she seems excessively uncompassionate and disingenuous though. 1y
BarkingMadRead @SamAnne #onthenose @Ann_Reads Becky is definitely not your typical “hero” I‘m conflicted but I love her spunk! 1y
Bookwormjillk Count me as on the fence for #TeamBecky 1y
Bklover @mcctrish I am completely entertained by this book! I still love Becky too. 1y
Daisey I‘m much more amused so far than I expected to be. Like @SamAnne I appreciated the Mysteries of Udolpho reference! 1y
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead did I read somewhere that Vanity Fair is hero-less fiction? Makes me think of Sally Rooney‘s books 1y
mcctrish @Daisey @SamAnne I haven‘t read Mysteries of Udolpho maybe we can do that one here 1y
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish yes! My copy actually says it inside the cover! 1y
rubyslippersreads I‘m #teambecky but maybe that‘s partly because I‘ve heard her compared to another heroine I “love to hate,” Scarlett O‘Hara. (edited) 1y
rubyslippersreads @Ann_Reads I wouldn‘t like Becky in real life, but she‘s a realist and realizes there is no one to look out for Becky except Becky. 1y
Bookwormjillk @rubyslippersreads good point. Definite Scarlet O‘Hara vibes. 1y

mcctrish I am thanking the goddess for Becky, I‘m sure Amelia is lovely but that letter re.graduation 🤢 from finishing school 🙄#teambecky 1y
Cuilin I‘m holding out a little on Becky. I mean throwing a book away. However I like her sass 💁‍♀️ 1y
BarkingMadRead @Cuilin 🤣🤣 I mean, it was a dictionary 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1y
dabbe I hope that every time I see Amelia's name, I'm not going to think “Bedelia“ in the back of my mind. She seems too Pollyanna-ish to me. I laughed out loud at the audacity of Becky tossing the dictionary out the window! 📕 1y
julieclair Becky is going to be quite entertaining! 1y
Bookwormjillk Lol #Teambecky here too. 666 pages 🤣 1y
willaful Chapter one makes me wonder if Frances Hodgson Burnett was inspired a bit by this. The sister schoolmistresses are very similar to those in A Little Princess. Also some name similarity, though the characters are very different! 1y
Bklover @willaful I see what you mean. Now I‘m going to drag out The Little Princess. 😉 1y
Bklover I‘m already getting attached to Becky. I was feeling sorry for her until the departure scene, when I realized she can quite take care of herself. I did feel a bit sorry for Jemima, though, as she risked her sister‘s wrath to sneak Becky a dictionary! 1y
Bklover @dabbe I do love Amelia Bedelia! Remember when she was camping and they told her to go pitch the tent and she threw it over a cliff?! 😂🤣 1y
Bklover I think I‘m a chapter behind already- didn‘t realize we were doing two a day! Will go catch up right now. 1y
eeclayton I'm with @Cuilin on this one. Becky will definitely be an interesting and entertaining character to watch, but whether she's likeable, we'll see. 1y
SamAnne Oh I want to join! 1y
Cuilin @willaful I thought this. I kept seeing Maureen Lippman and Miriam Margoyles as they played the sisters in the tv adaptation of The Little Princess. 1y
BarkingMadRead @SamAnne I will add you! @Bklover yes, two chapters a day so we will finish this month! 1y
Cuilin @eeclayton keeping an 👁️ on Becky. #havemydoubts 1y
BarkingMadRead @eeclayton I think she will keep things interesting!! 1y
JamieArc I was “meh” after 25 pages and lots of footnotes but then she threw the dictionary and I was like “Okay, I see you. I can get with this.” 😂 1y
BarkingMadRead @JamieArc I feel that in my soul 1y
