There were times when reading this was just miserable, but I think it was how well the author described a dismal situation. The Nightingale was my favorite book this year so I had high expectations. I'd still recommend it. She gives very rich descriptions of Alaska, and the harshness of the environment really adds to the story.

I loved this book. This story stole my heart, for sure. I knew going into this story that it was going to be heavy, but oh my heart! The atmosphere of this book was so great. The ending really tugged at my heartstrings but I felt like it was a little too rushed. I didn't want to leave this story or these characters. I would really like to see a movie adaptation.

This is a great story by Kristin Hannah and will give you a good peek at what life is like living in Alaska! If you haven‘t read it, you should! Very enjoyable story!

I think I may have enjoyed The Great Alone even more than The Nightingale. I love that both novels place female relationships at the center, although the ending feels a bit rushed in both books.
