The Glassmaker: A Novel | Tracy Chevalier

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of a glassmaking family through time. The way in which it skips through time while focusing on the same family is a fascinating storytelling technique, and it includes so many interesting details about glassmaking in Murano and the history of Venice.

Excellent historical fiction from Tracy Chevalier, as always, with a conceit I didn't like at first, but quickly warmed to.

I‘m really enjoying May‘s @litsybookclub book! I‘ve always glass blowing. As a kid whenever we went to Silverdollar city we would always watch the glassblowers. Interestingly, the glass blowers were confined to one island off of Italy to help protect their glass blowing secrets!

AlaMich Wasn‘t it also to prevent the glass blowers from setting all of Venice on fire?🔥😱 1w
tpixie @AlaMich oh yes, that was mentioned also! 🔥 1w

Decent read. The author had an engaging enough writing style. HE largely covers from the 4th Crusade until about 1500, focusing mainly on military and economic aspects of the city. While certainly interesting, a minor complaint is it would have been interesting to see some earlier and later time periods covered. Also, politics are covered, but largely only related to the military and economic side of things. Overall, still a good intro to Venice.

This morning‘s📕 swap scores on the way to a spot of grocery 🛒 before the shops shut tomorrow for 🐣. I‘m home from visiting the relos & will have the w/e off 🩰 so intend on cooking up a ⛈️ & cleaning like it‘s spring to prepare for a term of performances that culminates in a comp at the Opera House in July. I‘ll be performing 3 dances. I also have to tack 2 tutus & rest. That will happen while I catch up on Handmaid‘s Tale. It‘s great so far.
