Atonement | Ian McEwan

I've read the book. I've seen the film.

I have no #sympathy for Briony. Not a tiny bit.

#NoFemmeber @Billypar @Cinfhen
#YesFemmeberInNovember

PS: just had the DVD at hand

KarenUK Love this book and movie so much.... 6y
zezeki I've watched the film a few times and I absolutely love it! Still have to read the book though. 6y
Literary_Siren I bawl my eyes out reading/watching this! 😩 I also have no sympathy for Briony. I still want to punch her lights out. 6y
Billypar Argh- this book was so good! I both do and don't have sympathy for her. I guess I couldn't help but think how she must have felt looking back on it. Such an emotionally exhausting book! 6y

#TheHarshestLight-bulb should have gone up in my head when I made soap on Tuesday.

I know how to do it and still made a mistake after pouring the soap into the molds. And then I put the pre-cleaned molds into the dishwasher to give them a thorough clean. 🙈

The first mistake is no biggie, means waiting two extra weeks before the soap is ready for use. The second mistake though, I guess I can throw the molds out.

#NoFemmeber @Billypar @Cinfhen

Dolly Oh dear. One time I whipped huge amounts of air into a reconstituted batch. I ended up with many many bars of styrofoam-like purple soap 😂 6y
See All 9 Comments
julesG @Dolly that could be cool, too. I think I need to try that next. 6y
Craftylikefox Oh no! I am trying out some silicone molds for my lotion bars this year. 6y
julesG @Craftylikefox The silicone molds that I used for the lotion bars came out fine. I'll try heating the plastic molds in the oven and then twist them back into shape. I might safe them this way. 6y
Craftylikefox Ooo that‘s a good idea! I hope it works out! 🤞 6y
Billypar I never read Fight Club, but it would be nice if it included some instructions at the end for making your own soap (provided it allowed for some ingredient substitutions 😁). 6y
julesG @Billypar 😂😂😂😂 the most funny part of this, before opening Litsy I just added Fight Club to my TBR. Should you want pointers as to how to make soap, let me know. 😉 6y

Girl Waits with Gun | Amy Stewart

#Gunshot #NoFemmeber

@Billypar @Cinfhen

Since it's #YesFemmeberInNovember I chose Amy Stewart's book, but my first thought was Hugh Laurie's The Gun Seller.

DivineDiana Chose this one too! 😉 6y
CarolynM I loved The Gun Seller. Pity he hasn't published any others. (edited) 6y
Billypar Looks like a Stewart vs. Laurie shootout! I didn't know he wrote a book: if there is an audio version, I think his House accent would be perfect 😀 6y
julesG @Billypar I don't know about an audiobook of his book, but since the MC is a Brit, his American accent wouldn't work. BTW, the first time I watched House, MD in the OV I was confused, I needed to get used to the American accent. 6y

The Amazons | John Man

Today's prompt made me think of fierce warrior women and not f a particular online shop. Why's that shop even named thus?

Anyway, strong women who knew how to fight, who were not against men or motherhood, but stood their ground and might have lead a matriarchal society.

#NoFemmeber @Billypar @Cinfhen
#YesFemmeberInNovember

ETA: today's prompt is #Amazon

GingerAntics The same is true of the ancient celts and Britons. Damn Rome and their "women aren't citizens" ways. 6y
julesG @GingerAntics Germanic and Nordic tribes, too. But it was Christianity with them, more than the Romans. The Romans feared us, they built a wall. 😁 6y
Cinfhen Excellent choices!! I like the way you‘re thinking today 😍 6y
Billypar These sound like really interesting cultural studies: would be interesting to understand what led these societies to accept women warriors, when so many still don't to this day. 6y

I'm totally blaming Eli Brown and his Owen Wedgewood for how I spent my afternoon.

Made soap and lotion bars.

My friends will tell me, I should start a small Etsy #bizness, but that's too much red tape. So, I'm making these to give away to physio therapists, friends and neighbours.

Also, I'm grateful that I can spend my #time with such hobbies.

#Gratitude30 @hermyknee

Cinfhen How fun & fabulous 🙌🏻💕 6y
Tanisha_A You are so talented! 🙂 6y
jmofo I‘m glad you‘re having a good time! I love making things too and people also suggest I sell them but that‘s work in itself and sounds like a lot less fun than just doing what I enjoy without monetary expectations. 6y
See All 9 Comments
julesG @jmofo That's exactly it. I want to enjoy making these things, I don't want it to be a chore. 6y
julesG @Tanisha_A Thanks! 6y
Maike Wow! That looks lovely 😉 6y
julesG @Maike And it smelled heavenly! 6y
Billypar Mmm...I would like to invest! 😋 6y
julesG @Billypar That would be a huge investment. I'd need to rent a workshop. (main reason why I won't sell my stuff) 6y

Cute book about a clumsy elk/moose. He falls a lot, even uphill. His best friend is a bluebird.

This looks interesting. It's the first book in a Gothic romance trilogy and the MC is the #freakyfreak girl that's locked up in the attic.

Cinfhen This would work for #booked2019 #IrishAuthor #BookToMovie @erzascarletbookgasm @Cathythoughts it‘s pretty disturbing though 😞 6y
julesG Sounds like we should do a buddy read of this sometime. @Cinfhen @miralunasbooknook @Cathythoughts @erzascarletbookgasm 6y
Cathythoughts @cinfhen I am covered for #booked2019 as I havnt read any John Boyne YET ( 🎉🎉👍🏻) 6y
Cathythoughts Yes buddy read 👍🏻❤️ 6y
zezeki I've read it years ago, and I've found it fantastic. Thinking about rereading it actually. 6y
Billypar I've been intrigued by it also, but still unsure. I'm wondering if it would be claustrophobic to spend a novel in one room. Still, I think curiosity might get the better of me at some point.. 6y
julesG @Billypar But it's not happening to you, so you might be able to distance yourself from what's happening on the pages. 6y

I was under the #falsehope that I could read all the books that I put onto the #TBR cart. I will read them eventually, but probably not before the year is out.

Note, #GhostCat sleeping on the bottom tray, #ShadowCat can be seen in the mirror, he's on my bed. I rearranged the furniture again yesterday.

laurieluna It just means you have some great picks to see the new year in with! 6y
julesG @miralunasbooknook You have no idea just how many there are. 6y
laurieluna @julesG more like it will see you through a few new years? 😂 6y

gradcat Love your cats! I guess #GhostCat will pick out your next read for you 💞💞 6y
Cinfhen I have the same #falseHope about finishing my #NetGalley ARCs 😩😳 6y
julesG @miralunasbooknook Decades! 770+ books on my kindle, several thousand on my hard disk and an estimated 250 in my flat. I could get through it if I stop getting new books/ARCs at all. 6y
julesG @gradcat I hope not. She has sharp claws. 6y
TheSpineView I have the same problem. There are two stacks of books on my night stand and 3 stacks on my desk to read this year. Not counting my kindle. I will try but I know it will be next year before I get to them all. 6y
Billypar I'm a big fan of your book/cat cart! I'm not a fast enough reader to do both ARC's and regular books I want to read- I'm always in awe of everyone on Litsy who can keep up with that kind of reading pace! ☺️ 6y
julesG @TheSpineView There are always more unread books than read books in my house. I'm hoarding them faster than I can read them. 6y
julesG @Billypar I can only manage to get as much read as I do, because I am not working at the moment. Also, I hardly ever watch TV, which gives me extra reading time in the evenings. I admire the Littens that have a faster reading speed than I have, I still read at a snail's pace. 😉 6y
Billypar @julesG Yes- cutting TV and internet browsing really helped me get to my current level- still not much compared to many here, but way more than I used to! 6y
