Part 1 had me questioning why I was reading a retelling of JA‘s life. Part 2 had me smiling and laughing out loud with the shenanigans ensuing over JA acclimatizing to the 21st century and the brother and sister who befriend her when she time travels. Part 3 had me bawling my eyes out at the absolute heartbreak of this book. Moral of this story? NEVER doubt a Jane Austen story

I don‘t know if it‘s the same cold reinventing itself or a new one thanks to all the sick people at school but the bright side of it all is I have no where to be and 100‘s of books to read. This first part of this book seriously had me questioning my impulse library hold - but I am HOOKED now and laughing and smiling and loving this Austen time traveling tale

dabbe Hope you feel better soon. ❤️💜🩷 1mo
mcctrish @dabbe I think I‘m on the mend but I‘m going to keep quiet about that so I can just keep reading 🤫 1mo
Tamra Yay, except for the cold! 1mo

mcctrish @Tamra once again I‘m wishing I had bought the library book because I love it ( I am mental with my desire to own all the books) 1mo

My favorite from January was this excellent medieval fiction which is sort of adjacent to The Canterbury Tales. I loved this book so much. Medieval fiction is my favorite. I loved the perspective on how life could have been for women during the 1300‘s. It was so entertaining to me. I just felt like I was THERE, right in the story.

Thank you for hosting #12Booksof2023, @Andrew65!

Andrew65 Sounds brilliant. 3mo

I found this one a bit lacking in comparison to the other books in the series. The murder was a bit ho hum and the suspects were irritating. 😅😅

I liked this gothic mystery. I predicted a few of the plot points and so the ending only partly came as a surprise. I have been wondering about something while reading the book I'm hiding it as a Spoiler in the comments.

This was as much an impulse read as a book that's been on my TBR for a while, but I'm using it for the Green or Red on the cover prompt for #RushAThonChristmasBingo.

julesG Why does it always have to be "mad" women doing the killing in such gothic tales? Or am I picking the ones with "mad" women only? 4mo

Caroline2 Oh glad you liked it. I‘ve had this sitting in my tbr for agessss. I loved her other books so I must move it up my pile. 👍 3mo

Caroline2 Just read your spoiler… totally agree. 🙄 I was a disappointed with this one, bit cliched and predictable compared to The Corset. 3w
julesG @Caroline2 Then I'm looking forward to reading The Corset. 3w
Caroline2 The corset is sooo good! 👍 3w

Wrapping up November reading (including my seemingly unpopular thoughts on Mortal Follies) https://youtu.be/1AgqRHKwdUE

Oh, friends, MORTAL FOLLIES has such a delightful narrative voice, but it took me four long days to finish it and that was just too long for me to love it. Even if I‘d read it quickly, though, I think I would‘ve faltered due to the distance Robin Goodfellow‘s narration gives us from our protagonist, the drawn out Regency pacing, and the way I revelled in the worldbuilding but never invested myself in the romance. It wasn‘t BAD but… yeah. 😔

xicanti It was a 3-star read—my Liked It rating—which wobbles between a low Pick and a So-So for me. I felt pretty Low Pick about it after I finished it last night, but now I‘ve slept on it it‘s slid down to a So-So. Sadness. 5mo
willaful I felt very much the same. 5mo
xicanti @willaful it‘s so good in theory, but the execution didn‘t quite come off. 5mo

I‘m struggling with this one a bit right now. I‘m going to keep pushing, but it‘s a bummer because this should be everything that I want.

LiteraryinLawrence Oh no, that‘s disappointing! 5mo
mdemanatee @LiteraryinLawrence I know ☹️ but it may pick up yet. I‘m just currently struggling with the narration choice, while inventive, is also distracting. 5mo
