As lover of Jane Austen and member of Fictional Hangover's https://www.fictionalhangover.com/ Vampire Book Club I definitely had to read Jane and the Damned.

I think author did a good job of mixing Jane and Vampires. Love story was bit silly, but enjoyable read. I'm putting Book 2 Blood Persuasion on my December reading tbr.

Reading this in our cosy cottage by the sea 🌊 a storm was howling last night so perfect gothic Victorian fireside reading 📖 however I‘m still waiting for something to “happen” to grip me on page 115 compared to Laura Purcells others I‘m finding this one v v slow 🥱

Suet624 Your cozy cottage by the sea beats my sitting in the waiting room of a car service station 6d

Painter's Daughters | Emily Howes

A fictionalised take on the childhood of Thomas Gainsborough‘s daughters, I found this really interesting; the exploration of mental health, and also Thomas Gainsborough‘s desire for his daughters to live a happy life, not forced into the conventional path of marriage, yet leaving them both floundering as he has no idea how to articulate how that might happen. The writing and narrative lifted this above standard historical fiction for me.

Finished this one on the plane yesterday for #ThematicCozies September #Books This bookish cozy had been in my TBR for ages & I love the author‘s gardening & bird-related series, so it‘s no wonder I enjoyed this one. Set in Bath, the MC, Haley, curates a library foundation dedicated to the Golden Age of Mysteries even though her literary preferences & studies were not about mysteries. When the leader of a group of ⬇️

DebinHawaii … Agatha Christie fan fiction writers turns up dead in the library room, she‘s on the case to solve it. I liked Hayley (divorced mom with a college-age daughter) & found the mystery pretty good (it kept me guessing) & all the references to mysteries & other books are fun. I‘ll read the next book. Also, the foundation‘s tortie cat named Bunter is adorable.🐈💛 Thanks to my #AuthorAMonth reading of Dorthy L Sayers, I knew the name.😉 (edited) 2mo

Read this to give my brain a break from comps reading & it delivered beautifully. Not very spicy but vulnerable, reflective, & heartfelt. Perfect for breaking up the weight of all the theory & philosophy I have to read this week. Exam questions arrive Monday morning! I hope I have enough time to write a few sentences in an email to each of my advisors in between speed reading what‘s left on my list 😅😬😰😭🫥 this summer has been so transformative

kspenmoll Best of luck with your exams! Glad you took a break with this book! 4mo

This was SO MUCH FUN. I loved Miles & Abigail—their banter, humor, and romance, as well as the contrast & balance that becomes apparent between these two such well-matched characters. Heyer just gets everything right: Abigail‘s pitch-perfect near-caricature relatives—lovable and infuriating by turns—a surprising but thoroughly appealing male love interest, and comeuppance where it is due. ⤵️

BarbaraJean (Cont‘d) The ending is WAY too abrupt, but also adorable. All the praise for my May #DoubleSpin + 1966 pick for #192025. @TheAromaofBooks @Librarybelle 6mo

TheAromaofBooks This is a favorite of mine. One thing I love is how often Heyer writes about slightly older heroines - instead of her being 16 or 17 and yearning for love, she's in her late 20s and happily single. And the way these two hit it off as friends at first just delights me! 6mo
Librarybelle Lovely paperback edition! 6mo
BarbaraJean @Ruthiella @Librarybelle Thank you! Library book sales have provided so many treasures! 6mo
BarbaraJean @TheAromaofBooks Yes, I loved that, too! This one could so easily have been about the niece, but Heyer chooses the less-conventional (and far more interesting) heroine instead. And the friends first vibe is my favorite (forever influenced by Anne and Gilbert!) 6mo
CarolynM There are so many Heyer‘s I fear I‘ll never read them all, but I will look out for this one😊 5mo
