These are some of my 5⭐️ reads for 2025 (Jan-Dec).

A couple of fun facts: two are from the same series (Mar & Dec) and two are from the same author writing for two different series (Apr & Oct).

I also had no less than 9 (!!) 5⭐️ books in Feb…a stellar month (and I‘m sure that‘s a personal record for me).

Thanks @TheEllieMo ! It‘s always fun looking back at great books. 🤎

My top 25 of 2025, in no particular order. I don‘t think I could pick an absolute favourite, but if forced to pick a top 5 I‘d go with:

The Axeman‘s Carnival
The Story of a Heart
Heart the Lover
For The Sun After Long Nights
The Artist

But, ask me again in 5 minutes and I‘ll change my mind about that! 😜

TrishB Great choices 👍🏻 5d
AmyG I took a picture so I can remember. Thanks for posting these. I have MUCH to read. (Always) 🤣 5d
BarbaraBB Such a great list! I am taking a screenshot of course to be able to check out the ones I haven‘t read yet like The story of a Heart and The Artist (how is that even possible?!) 5d

New Waterstones opened in York today - totally forgot until very late on but obviously had to have a last minute look around. Double stamps for their opening weekend too 😁

squirrelbrain Oooh I didn‘t know there was a new one opening. Is it bigger than the other one? 3mo
squirrelbrain Just looked it up and I see it‘s at Monks Cross…. Not far at all from my route to work. 😜 3mo

Coincidentally on 4 September we went on a 'behind the scenes' library tour

#libraryfun
@eggs
@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

MrsMalaprop Such a stunning library. Will have to visit when we are in Melbourne next month. We did a tour there. It was free and about the history of the library and books. Is that different to the tour you did? 4mo
Teresereading Yes its a different tour. 4mo
Eggs Great photo/architecture 👌🏼 4mo

GPS missed it by “that much” on Monday, but I did find the used bookstore Turn the Page on my way out of Williamsburg yesterday. (It‘s not in the Litsy database.

I managed to restrain myself and only bought the tagged book.

It was also charming to listen to big band music while browsing, and even the bag is cute.

TiredLibrarian Nice! Reminds me how much I enjoyed the Kinsey Millhone books. 11mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage Aww. I love Kinsey! 11mo

With all due respect to the books I will finish before Wednesday, I went ahead and put together my #Top24of24 list. My favorite fiction of the year is The Book Censor‘s Library and my favorite NF is Challenger. There‘s also some really good stuff in the next tier and if I‘d waited an hour, maybe this list would be different.

JamieArc I‘ve read three of these and they would be in my top as well (James, Reformatory, My Friends). 12mo
Deblovestoread I‘ve read 6 and have a few more on my shelves. Taking a screenshot to remember the rest. 12mo
Amiable “Challenger” is my top NF read this year, too! 12mo

Hooked_on_books @Deblovestoread End of the year lists are hard on the TBR! 😂 12mo
Hooked_on_books @Amiable Such a good book! I remember when it happened and even so when they decide to launch I said, “No!” out loud. That‘s how good the writing is! 12mo
BarbaraBB Great list. We‘ve read and enjoyed so many of the same books - thanks to many longlists and Litsy of course 12mo
Hooked_on_books @BarbaraBB I am so happy to have so many ways to find books. Otherwise I don‘t think my reading life would be so rich. Litsy has been amazing for that! 12mo
Librariana It made me smile to see your post as I was scrolling ☺️ I had to mimic @Deblovestoread and take a screenshot myself to look these up a little later. For now, I've REALLY gotta head to bed! Here's to hoping I can be a more consistent Litsy participant in the new year 😊💜📚 12mo
Hooked_on_books @Librariana No matter how much or little time you spend here, Ana, it is always a pleasure to bump into you. Hope you are doing well! 12mo
TrishB Screenshot for a closer look 👍🏻 12mo

Personally, I find the NYT to be rather snobby about books. Anyhoo, I've read 9. Out of the 9 I bailed on 3, loved 3, and found the others ok.
There are 4 I want to read. The rest I either never heard of or purposely ignored.
BUT! I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to see Random Family on the list. I loved this book, it's such an unknown gem. I've never seen this book mentioned anywhere nor heard anyone talk about it. I highly recommend it!

Ruthiella That‘s one that I‘d never heard of! I‘ll put it on my TBR. 1y
Cathythoughts Stacking Random Family 👍🏻❤️ 1y
bookandbedandtea I feel the same way about NYT and their snobbishness. 🙄 Random Family does sound good; I'll add it to my virtual TBR. 1y
TheBookgeekFrau @Ruthiella @Cathythoughts Oh good 😊 Hope you like it! 1y
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea It might be a good one to get you out of your slump. 1y

This was on my tbr pile of books I bought at an op (thrift) shop because it looked interesting… not sure how long I‘ve had this one - but it absolutely sent me down an internet rabbit hole to discover what I could about Ruth M. Hawker - which I‘ve since added to her GR page. Put my GR librarian powers to good use.

I‘ve never seen this kind of notice before! Truely a glimpse into a different time.
