Hey Elves! Here are some ways to earn extra points before the start of the month! A full point break down for #WinterGames is coming soon, but for now you can grab those early bird points by doing any of the tasks before Dec 1st.

Andrew65 I haven‘t chosen my books for December and Winter Games yet, but I always enjoy Jessica Redland‘s Christmas books so looking forward to reading Christmas at the Cat Cafe. For some reason the tagging of this book isn‘t working so will try to tag it later on. (edited) 4mo

Mehso-so

One of these things is not like the other! Didn't notice the 'based on the character' on the Guinea Pig one until I already had it home from the library. 🤦🏼‍♂️
No Roses for Harry seems a little more pointless than the last two I read about Harry: style preference rather than perception check. Didn't like that the story didn't confront people laughing at someone for the clothing they wore or why male didn't like floral/feminine cloth? 🙄 1/2

Robotswithpersonality 2/2 There's definitely some 1958 publication date gender stuff. I'm hoping there's a more relevant children's book version out there that would emphasize a being's right to choose what to wear, whether or not they liked roses, no matter how they identify. 🌹Harry and the Guinea Pig feels too much like an amalgam of children's stories I've read before, the fuss over who gets attention mashed up with a contrived mystery/adventure. Lost the charm of the originals. 🤷🏼‍♂️ 6mo

This book can be used in the classroom if you know there may be a loss because it does make it light-hearted and shows varying emotions but in the end, the children end up okay. Along with the overall message- as I talked about in the review the medium and use of colors keep it youthful.

Pickpick

“The Dead Bird“ was illustrated by Christian Robinson and it is understood that the medium used to illustrate the pictures allows to keep it very playful even though the overall message is about a dead bird. The use of what seems to be either paint or the use of oil pastels may give it that youthful feel.

“Then they cried because their singing was so beautiful and the ferns smelled so sweetly and the bird was dead.“

When introducing the life cycle to young children, I believe this would be a very fitting book. It shows the death of an animal in a lighthearted way and touches some social emotional learning qualities from how the children go about after the death of the bird. It would be good for grades kindergarten to 4th grade.
