I really want to know what the “beast” looks like I really do … I really enjoyed this read and I‘m so happy I have the next book in the series… but I‘m away from home so I‘ll still have to wait until I get home but I do have it :)

The story opens with the birth of the Omega's son that is born to a female vampire. The Omega has the Fore-Lesser leave the baby in a public place where he will be found. Fast forward 25 years, and Phury is pining for Bella and wondering why he chose to be Vishous's stand-in. Bella is pining over Phury and John is pining over Xhex. Mr. D is made the new Fore-lesser and we get his story. He is tasked with finding...

TheSpineView ...the Omega's son now that he has come of age. Phury asks John to keep Cormia company so she is not lonely. Phury is fighting lessers and learns they now call him the "Torturer" because he is getting off on inflecting pain before he kills them. We learn someone is blackmailing Rehvenge and it has something to do with Xhex. Zsadist tells Wrath what is going on with Phury. It is determined he is unstable and is put on administrative leave. 7d

TheSpineView John, Blay and Qhuinn go shopping and to ZeroSum. Xhex gets into John's mind and sees that he fantasies about her. Xhex realizes she is attracted to John. Thorment is alive, barely. Phury feeds Cormia and realizes that he wants her. Lash starts shit with John and Qhuinn comes to his rescue and almost kills Lash when he cuts his throat. Qhuinn gets disowned and is kicked out of the house. We learn more about Phury as a young male and his vow... 7d

TheSpineView Lots going on in these opening chapters. The Omega has a son is a shocker. Should we even guess who that is. I think we have all figured it out. I think it is safe to say Phury has bonded with Cormia. Do you think we are headed down the same path with John and Xhex? 7d

julesG I read the book a few months ago, don't want to spoil anything. I hate Phury's inner voice, his wizard who enables him. Why did Ward turn Phury into this whining drug addict? I knew there was more under the Hollywood facade, which we got a glimpse of during Bella's abduction, but this is more than I expected. 6d

julesG Have I mentioned that the Chosen/Primale breeding program disgusts me? I'm glad this viscous (pun not exactly intended) circle is broken. 6d

TheSpineView @julesG No pining between Z and Bella just drama over her pregnancy. Glad to see Phury is starting to realize that he cares about Carmia. I agree with you on Phury. I think Ward took his inner demons a bit too far. 6d

What can you do to present vampires in a different light… give them weakness and human issues… this first book provides a different view on vampires and it hits all the marks … a great way to start a series can‘t wait to read the next book

Vishous goes to Jane's home to tell her the good news, that Phury will take his place. He removes the block on her memories. Meanwhile, Phury goes to the other side to start his duties as Primale. He is appalled that Carmia is bound and gaged to a bed. He releases her and takes her back to the mansion. Phury has the Directrix's number and reports her to the SV. Vishous goes to the hospital and removes the images of his heart and wipes Manny's mind

TheSpineView During training, Zsadist realizes John is lefthanded like his father, Darius. He comments that he even moves like him. Jane is shot by a lesser and dies in Vishous's arms. Jane is greeted by her sister's ghost on the other side. The ghost tells Jane she must let Vishous go to continue fully to the other side. V has a plan to reanimate Jane by using lesser blood. The SV stops him. Phury discovers that the Directrix is the one who shot Vishous. 2w

TheSpineView Vishous's visions come back ṭo him. The SV gives Jane back to Vishous, sort of. She is a ghost now. John is given Darius's journal. V goes to thank the SV for the gift of Jane and finds that her sacrifice was her beloved birds. It is revealed that V has a twin sister. Jane goes to say goodbye to Manny as a ghost. TheSpineView Some final thoughts on this book. In my eyes, the SV redeemed herself a little with the gift of Jane to V. However, she destroyed it when I found out she was basically keeping her daughter in suspended animation. I have come to the conclusion that she is just one of those characters I am going to love to hate. I think Jane as a personal physician to the brothers is fabulous. No more Havers! Yeah! So happy John now has a piece of Darius. I wonder 2w

ShananigansReads So many things happening at the end of this book. I remember having mixed feelings about how Jane and V end up together when I first read the story but this time around I feel like it‘s pretty perfect. Maybe because I already knew what to expect. 2w

TheSpineView ...if the journal will tell us who John's mother is. Will we even get any insight into what is in the journal. I'm glad V got his own HEA. Now on to Phury's story. Free free to discuss anything, even if it is at a later date. 2w

julesG I don't like the SV. So far every time she did something nice we get to see a 'nastier' side of her afterwards. I want to know what's in the journal too. There are quite a lot of lose ends at the end of the book. Sure, they will be dealt with in later books, hopefully, but when in later books. I'm impatient. 😉 2w
