This is a fantastic book that compares the old witch trials with the pressures and prejudices women face today. While reading this book I admit to feeling really frustrated and angry. It's 2023 and it feels like women are losing rights again 😾

Another book I loved much more than I expected! It wasn't that I thought I'd dislike it, but I've seen it compared to many books I don't like so I wasn't prepared for the edge to this story. Fredrik Backman isn't playing around, but he does it in the kindest way possible. (Extra points for relevant discussions of current Scandinavian issues subtly layered into the story.)

This is a sweet story of second chances and, dare I say it, the power of coffee. In an obscure cafe in Tokyo, those who wish to visit a past occurrence can do so...but, there are rules. Lots of rules. And severe consequences if the coffee gets cold...

I enjoyed this one. The characters are entertaining, and I admittedly shed a few tears. Many thanks to @BarbaraBB for sending me this one for #Japan and #ReadingAsia2021 . Also, ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Cinfhen Agreed, this book was sweet and robust 💜 3y

I've really enjoyed the Harry Hole books and this one is the 12th in the series. In this one Harry's estranged wife Rakel is murdered and Harry takes it upon himself to find her killer 🖤

I read this book in one sitting and it broke my heart. Don‘t let the cute cover fool you – this book is sad, but really good!

This is my #BookInTranslation pick for #SummerFun bingo and fulfills another square on my July #BookSpinBingo card!

“Poverty was crushing all the feeling they had.”

The first quarter of the 20th century it‘s all misery in #Austria. The war, the financial crisis: Christine grows up a victim of her circumstances and leads a joyless life that turns into frustration once she discovers the possibilities of life under different circumstances.

This was yesterday‘s book for #borderlessbookclub & one I really enjoyed. It‘s a quiet still novel - a young woman moves to a small community in the inlands of Northern Sweden, to be with her boyfriend. The relationship ends before she even arrives, but she makes the decision to stay.

It reminds me a little of Rachel Cusk‘s Outline, with an mc you may never ‘know‘. A beautiful study of the minutiae of daily life, change, loss and moving on.

4 1/2 ⭐

I thought this would be 5 ⭐, but the frequent mentions of 'when I was researching this book' (or similar) took me out of the story, which is disappointing. The last 2 parts aren't as interesting as the first two as well, but still a pick!

But it does #pridebook, #onaudio & #bookintranslation for #summerfun @4thhouseontheleft @StayCurious

Librarybelle That would be annoying! 4y
