Desert Solitaire | Edward Abbey

Pickpick

★★★★☆

First read in 2010. My wife Amy and I started the audiobook of this American nature classic last June while driving home from Moab, Utah, a place that is very special to us. Acknowledging Abbey's ableism, racism, sexism, and hypocrisy, one can't deny that he's a compelling writer. I wish all readers of this book could also read Robert Macfarlane's introduction. ⬇️

bibliothecarivs Now I must read Amy Irvine's critical response, 'Desert Cabal: A New Season in the Wilderness'. 🔚 3w

Met 1 of my idols tonight at my library. The gentle, talented, all round good human above. I saw her on Gardening Oz once & have been collecting her 📚 since. If you aren‘t familiar with her work you have to see it to believe it. Tickets to her exhibition & talk were free & afterwards there was 🍾 & nibbles to finish a gorgeous week night off. No school tomorrow as I‘ve a couple of appointments & performing 🩰 at night. No rest for the wicked.

Jeg Great pic. I too love her work. We have most if not all of her books. (edited) 4w

An adorable reimagining of Baba Yaga as a witch from Santa Fe. I loved all of the nods to the inspiration, like the roadrunner legs and the prickly pear fence. I'm not sure why the girl looks like she stepped out of Tim Burton's imagination in most scenes. #Retelling #BabaYaga #Witch #PictureBook
