This is an author from my own City where I live, first time knowing about this author. The story was great..not knowing who the killer was until the end was good. Will read more from this author.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.

This book by Malcolm Azania aka Minister Faust is about Hamza and Yehat, two guys who just want to help out their community in Edmonton, chill on the couch and watch anime, and work on their homemade mech suit. Then a femme fatale shows up to draw them into a dangerous quest for ancient Egyptian magics.
Hamza was probably the first Muslim MC I had encountered in a novel, which was mind-expanding in the early 2000s.

The author of this book is of the same ethnic background as his main character, Leo Desroches: one Cree parent & one French-Canadian parent. That in itself provides the protagonist, and by extension, his story, authenticity. However, there‘s not a lot of historical background—we only get the background of Leo and his mother, really. But I was intrigued by Arthurson‘s sense of place: he had me from the first few ⬇️

2. Northern Britain 🇬🇧 or Scotland 🏴
3. Tagged book takes place in Canada 🇨🇦
4. Barbecues are big in spring/summer; hamburgers 🍔, fries 🍟, sandwiches 🥪 & pancakes 🥞—just a few casual food favorites in America.

I recently learned (the announcement for next season came in scratch card style) that this novel will be made into a play at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton. I‘m pumped for it!
The scene on the front of this satirical novel is of a typical Edmonton bungalow, with typical landscaping: poorly situated trees, which are then trimmed into horrible cones or lollipops. I‘m so glad I don‘t have to look at a tree like that on my block. I‘m also glad that I read this funny book, which was initially published in newspaper instalments. I cared more & more about the exasperating characters as the story progressed. #CanadianAuthor
An alliance of book clubs: Best chapter title ever! An alliance of book clubs cannot fail.
“Snow was romantic in a different way than rain.”
Littens: Please discuss. (I totally agree. I would pick snow over cold rain anytime. Rain is barely romantic at all.)
