BookmarkTavern This was such a fun read! I really loved the satire of Hollywood and making movies, how Dibbler kept going grander and grander with his plans. Also, the troll romance was unexpectedly delightful. And I can‘t believe it took me until the last hour or so for the book that I got the uncle Oswald reference was the Oscar statues. 😅😅😅 (edited) 2w

julesG Did I mention that the new recording of the audiobook is narrated by Jason Isaacs? If not, mea culpa. 2w
BarbaraJean I loved all the little references--especially Blown Away 😂 It was a lot of fun deciphering those references, and I'm sure I missed a lot of them. I also really liked the deeper themes about dreams, and Victor's comments on being the biggest version of yourself. I'd have liked more of that, but felt like it got eclipsed by all the clever references. @BookmarkTavern Yes! The troll romance! I think the trolls were my favorite characters in this one. 1w
willaful @BarbaraJean I also liked the troll romance, which reminded me of my marriage. 🤣 I really had to hit him with a brick!

I enjoyed all the jokes, but also feel the deeper themes weren't explored as much as I would've liked. It's interesting to see the beginnings of the Wizard changeover, and Ponder Stibbons. 6d

willaful Well, that was fun, and I always love the bits of goofy romance Pratchett pops in. I hadn't read this one before but it's one of my mom's favs -- probably because it's very light on Rincewind. 😂 I think it may have helped that I read it after seeing “Ted Lasso,“ and got more of the jokes around football/soccer. Pepe was a bit of a surprise! 1mo

TheSpineView Got to say how much I enjoyed this one. His is genius with this satirical view of Hollywood. And Gaspode The Wonder Dog!!!!! 😂😂😂 1mo
BookmarkTavern I‘m so glad to have revisited this one! I was so focused on getting irritated with the wizards last time, I didn‘t fully appreciate Nutt. That feeling of having to work for worth, I deeply empathized with that. And listening to Glenda say “you always have” made me tear up. I do wish we could have gotten another Nutt novel. 1mo

julesG I completely forgot to read this book. I've started yesterday. Will chime in properly later. But just wanted to say that I'm still in awe at Pratchett's way with words. When I first read his books the satire wasn't as obvious to my teenage self as it is today. 1mo

kwmg40 I loved this installment of the Discworld series! First of all, it was nice to finally get in the Rincewind series, some really good female characters. I especially liked the interactions among the group of Glenda, Nutt, Juliet and Trevor. I also liked Pratchett\'s hilarious takes on football, academia and the Romeo and Juliet story. 1mo
kwmg40 At first, I thought that Pratchett was being ridiculous with the Megapode Hunt. Then I found out it\'s based on a real-life tradition: the Mallard Hunt at All Souls College in Oxford! My daughter did her Master\'s degree at Oxford and she confirms that totally inane traditions are quite common there. 1mo
BarbaraJean I loved this one. Nutt especially. @BookmarkTavern I was disappointed to search around and discover this is all we get of Nutt's story. I would have LOVED another Nutt book, or at least another appearance! @kwmg40 YES to finally getting some really good female characters. Glenda was fantastic. I feel like this is the first time in the Rincewind books where we get some actual character development--and it's all in that character group. 1mo
