Oh, the Librarian 🤣🤣🤣 I think he is probably my favorite character. I think I've said that before 🤔🙄😏

I'm a little behind on the #OokBOokClub reading, but I'll catch up at some point.

jmtrivera My goal is to catch up with the club some time this year! 1w
julesG @jmtrivera I can highly recommend the Audiobooks. I tend to listen to them while cooking. 1w
Iblu I have grown fond of the videos of an American YouTuber reading the whole Discworld series. I found him entertaining with his asides and emotional readings. I understand he got commissioned for producing the video of each part of any book, but they are now freely available on his YouTube channel. What about royalties to the author though? Am I right in feeling guilty about this way of listening to audiobooks? 1w
julesG @Iblu I understand that you are worried about this. I just think if there were any problems with copyright and royalties, they would have taken it off YouTube by now. I, unfortunately, can't listen to this nice fellow. He's doing a great job, but I just love the British version read by Nigel Planer (sp?). 1w

Pickpick

The Guard is growing on me. They will never crawl into that special place in my heart held by the Witches, but they might get the second row seats. 😉

Lucy_Anywhere The City Guards are my fave Pratchett books 😊 1w

julesG Vetenari and Carrot trying reverse psychology made me giggle. 1w
Aimeesue “Sometimes it‘s better to light a flamethrower than curse the darkness.” 😂 1w
khooliha One of my strongest memories of this book is from my first read, when I told my best friend I had cried over Cuddy's death and got mocked for it. 1w
See All 13 Comments
khooliha Anyway, I love this book! I love all of the new characters introduced and I love the new phase of life Vimes gets. 1w
Gezemice @Aimeesue This one is full of quotables. My favorite is Vimes‘ Boots theory of economic inequality. 1w
Gezemice @khooliha This was my first “real” Discworld book and I loved it so much I did not stop until I read all the Watch books. This is still my favorite. Hilarious from start to end (those letters from Carrot 😂 ), the characters are awesome, one of the best Discworld plots, and there is some serious commentary on racism, hate, sexism, prejudice... even good people like Carrot have issues with the undead. Until they get to know one. 1w
khooliha @Gezemice This would be a great starter book! It's a good showcase for character development, a promise of how (most) of the series will go. My starter was The Last Continent and I think it's -technically- a bad starter, but I love it just the same. 1w
julesG @khooliha @Gezemice I read this book for the first time. My first Pratchett was Pyramids. I agree, MaA is a good starter. I'll keep it in mind for future reference. 😉 1w
Aimeesue @Gezemice I quote Vimes' Boots Theory ALL the time! Brought my kids up to live by it, when they can. 1w
Gezemice @Aimeesue I quote it often, too, although have not brought my kids up that way lol. 7d
Gezemice @khooliha Last Continent is one you kinda have to know Discworld for already... I am glad you liked it and kept reading! 7d
Gezemice @julesG Yeah, I recommend it usually as a starter, although Guards, Guards would work as well. Personally I think Men at Arms is better because more of the characters are there and Vimes is no longer a happless drunk. 7d
khooliha @Gezemice It made middle school me laugh A Lot, and Rincewind is a type of character I have always loved. It worked out! 7d

This is another reason I love Terry Pratchett. He GETS me 🤣🤣🤣. I have a huge hangup with italics in books, so I feel seen with these sentences.

Deifio @julesG don't know if you saw this but @ljuliel asked if everyone could put up their readalongs under one hashtag to better find them. I think it was #readalong2020 1mo
ljuliel Thanks @Deifio 😊. . I went ahead and added it to the list, but didn‘t add all the hashtags that are listed with this. I put the beginning ones and tagged both leaders in here. If anyone doesn‘t want theirs on that list, I‘ll gladly delete them. I think maybe they‘ll all get more participation if they‘re advertised in one spot . I‘ve seen lots of posts asking what readalongs are currently going on. 1mo
julesG @ljuliel Just tag it under #OokBOokClub that should do @Deifio Thanks! 1mo

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I may be the only one who read this one this month, I know his non- Discworld novels are not as popular. But nevertheless, I still enjoyed it for the cleverly crafted silly YA (maybe even middle grade) story it was at its core....with some great wordplay and social commentary woven throughout for those old enough to catch and enjoy. 😉 1mo
See All 9 Comments
gossamerchild I'm still working my way through it. Tbh these aren't my favorites, so I'm finding it difficult to stay on track 🙄 1mo
Iblu I agree we are spoiled with the Discworld universe of characters, yet this series has its moments. I‘m always struck by the references to J personal life thrown here and there and by the way they are described. Probably the YA could relate to that....would love to get my daughter to read the Johnny series at some point to see her reaction 1mo
Gezemice @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I have read it, too! Albeit a bit late... reading slump here. I liked it a lot better than the first Johnny book. It seemed more Pratchett overall - more humor, more fantasy with the dead, and I enjoyed the silly dialogues of the kids. No Discworld for sure, but fun. 4w
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Iblu Yes... it‘s Pratchett but for a YA audience. And I still enjoy it, it‘s just a bit simpler, but still great. 4w
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice So glad you got around to it, late or not it was still enjoyable. Hope things are starting to calm down for you and your New Year brings lots of great reading. 4w
julesG @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Iblu @Gezemice I'll probably read the trilogy with my kids, in German though. It'll make a good introduction to Pratchett. 4w
