To respect member's privacy and keep things awesome, most of Litsy is hidden from Google. We let humans see and share pages, but not machines. Find out more.
Prairiegirl_readingDon‘t let the bastards grind you down- in the words of AUTHOR Margaret Atwood. Reading is political, no one can always be happy, and honestly, that person can piss off!!3d
CBeeAnd let me just mention that if this person wants to block based on people who don‘t support the “president” - he or she will be blocking a shit ton of people. We are entitled to our opinions! And we can read together and love books together regardless of our political leanings. Just ridiculous. Love you Denise!!3d
dabbe@CBee There are some on Litsy who want only positive posts and nothing that will interfere with their peace of mind. Or, as some say, they can get their political stuff on other social media, but that Litsy should not have any of that. I just can't ignore what's going on. Name me one book that doesn't have social/political thoughts. I can find political even in CHARLOTTE'S WEB! Love you right back, m'dear. Thanks for your lovely support. 💙🩵💙3d
CBee@dabbe Litsy is also a safe space for many of us, and that also means being safe to post your opinions and not be punished for it. Ugh.3d
AmiableOut of curiosity, how do you know when you‘ve been blocked? Do you get a notification? Or did this person announce their departure like they were at the airport? 🙄3d
Amiable@CBee Amen! If someone wants to go around blocking people for protesting the lunatic in the White House, please let me save them the time and out myself right now. 👋🏼👋🏼3d
Amiable@dabbe It‘s ironic that these people feel like THEIR vision of what Litsy should be is the only one that matters. 🙄(edited) 3d
AmyGI would never block you. 😘😘😘 And…if someone blocked you? They did you a favor.(edited) 3d
ChaoticMissAdventuresI don't understand this? If you just unfollow someone on here they don't show up right? As someone who recently get back into therapy I kind of understand if someone uses this place for escape. But the very existence and ability to read is a political act so nothing on here is outside of politics.3d
PuddleJumperThere's no shame in wanting a positive place away from the chaos but you curate that. You follow people that post things like that and unfollow people that don't. If other people want to use the platform to share information then they can. As many people said, reading itself is political and a reading platform may have people that want to engage rather than regurgitate propaganda.3d
SusanitaWhy block when you can simply unfollow or scroll past? Thinking that politics is simply something that happens “out there somewhere” and we can glide through the world not paying attention, frankly, is one of the reasons we got into this mess in the first place. But, sure, if you don‘t want to hear it, block me.3d
DeblovestoreadThanks for keeping it real and being you! I‘m sorry but this administration (for lack of a better word) is banning books, freedom of speech, messing with arts, etc. How can we stay quiet? I‘m fine with anyone who doesn‘t like my content to unfollow me there‘s no need to be rude about it.3d
AnnCrystalWait, what? That's scary. Litsy is about books, and at the very foundation of books are readers, storytellers, teachers, lawyers, etc. It is our job to stand up and speak, inform, inspire hope, inspire peaceful action. We are the people that oppressors try their best to silence in history because we all seed and nurish the magic garden of hope! 😢✊🏼🐻📚✊📚✊🏻📚✊🏼📚✊🏾📚✊🏾📚✊🏿 📚🙏🏼🇺🇸🦅🇺🇲. Littens, BELIEVE in our magic 🫂💝.3d
dabbe@Amiable She announced nothing but went quietly into that good night. In fact, she had commented on a different post yesterday, so when I went to read the comment, nothing was there. The button to “follow“ her was now there (where I had been following her for years). When I went to look at her page, it was completely blank to me. It's as if she never existed, though she's still on Litsy. 🤷♀️3d
dabbe@ChaoticMissAdventures I'm not sure. If I go to people's pages who are not following me nor am I following them, I can still see their feed. When you are blocked, you can't see ANYTHING of theirs. Ever. I even posted something a while back, saying I'd use the words “#ranttime“ when I posted something political and that people who didn't want to see it could just block the hashtag. I guess that wasn't enough. Thanks for the support. 💙🩵💙3d
dabbe@PuddleJumper Like a told@ChaoticMIssAdventures, I even came up with the hashtag #ranttime and said I'd use it when I posted more serious things and that if people didn't want to see those, all they had to do was block the hashtag (kind of like those who don't like all the #scarathlon posts could just block them by blocking that hashtag)--just to try to keep everyone in their own happy-Litsy place. I guess that wasn't enough. 😕3d
dabbe@Susanita I think she really wanted to send me a message. If you “unfollow“, a person can still see your feed. She wanted to make a clear divide. And, in a way, I think that's also what's wrong in our country. Too many clear divides being made. 🫤3d
dabbe@Deblovestoread I once had a junior tell me (after I jokingly referred to myself at “CrabbyAbbe“), “Mrs. Abbe, I love you!“ When I asked why, she answered “because you keep it real.“ 🥹 Thank you for these words. 🩵💙🩵3d
ChaoticMissAdventures@dabbe I would brush it off as it is about them not you. If they think they can go anywhere and ignore this hell scape of an admin doing the most horrific things , well then they are either extremely privileged beyond empathy or delusional.... That isn't very nice of me but I find people who do not want to be aware to be a bit selfish if not cruel.3d
AnnCrystalI'm not sure....but I believe I know who you're speaking about...I believe she blocked me too....3d
DebinHawaiiWow! Just keep doing you. I‘m proud to follow you & call you my friend. 💛🐝🖤2d
JamieArcI saw someone else recently who was pretty prominent on Litsy leave because they didn‘t want to see political posts and thought we should only be posting about books and reading. But this is a community and we get to know each other and want to know about their lives. Personally, I feel safer knowing where those I interact with stand and can be my whole self. I appreciate you.2d
CBee@AnnCrystal@dabbe pretty sure I know exactly who it is. And you two aren‘t the first ones she‘s blocked for having differing opinions. I guess she‘s okay going to war for no reason. And, she‘s okay with the myriad of other horrid things he‘s done and will continue to do.(edited) 2d
Roary47Wait…what? Sometimes I worry my very inquisitive son does things on accident for me when stealing my phone. I agree with@CBee we all have our opinions, and you can keep scrolling and still enjoy common books together at later times. I understand wanting a positive scrolling experience when for many if not all of us reading is a release, but you can unfollow someone and not read their posts anymore. 🤷♀️ Or like you said@dabbe block the hashtags2d
AmyGYes, I too agree with@ChaoticMissAdventures. It says more about the person who blocked you. It‘s their issue. My guess is that person is angry that their happy place finally addressed the elephant in the reading room.2d
CarolynMAs an Australian I feel like I shouldn‘t comment on US politics here because it‘s not my business in the way it‘s yours (although, of course, it affects us all) but I totally support all of you who are resisting authoritarianism & the attacks on decades of progress. I say just scroll past if you don‘t like something, or unfollow if it annoys you that much.2d
dabbe@Roary47 Thank you! I did try to ameliorate the situation. 💙🥹🩵2d
dabbe@AmyG You are brilliant with words, m'dear. 🎯🩵🎯2d
dabbe@CarolynM Thank you! You most certainly can comment, and I'd love to hear your views. He is affecting our country but also the entire world. When he bombed another country, he brought trouble to the entire world. 💙🇦🇺♥️2d
Cupcake12You post want you want to, although I‘m in the UK you all have my support and innocent people are in my thoughts. Don‘t let the ugly in others, kill the beauty you xxx2d
AmyGHahahaha. I am far from brilliant but things have gotten so idiotic….maybe I am? 🤣2d
dabbe@Cupcake12 I can always count on you for something positive to make me smile. Thank you, friend. 🩵🥹💙2d
dabbe@AmyG This is a point in which I disagree! 😘2d
CBee@AmyG you are never idiotic, my brilliant book twin ♥️2d
Jari-chanIt's your feed, so it's up to you what to post. As a very worried/scared person from Switzerland it's really reassuring to know that there's resistance in the US/world. So such posts actually help me dealing with the situation. Thank you for everything 💖🙏2d
dabbe@Jari-chan Your words brought me to my knees. What must you see about this country? There are quite a few of us who are fighting what we believe is a good fight. 💙✊🏻♥️ What a world it would be if we first thought of ourselves as Earthlings before country before political party. What a unifier that would be. ♥️🇨🇭♥️2d
rwmgI really don't see the problem. I have a look at some posts on somebody's homepage and some of their books before I decide whether or not to follow them. I know I'm not going to like (or “like“) all of their posts. If I realise somebody's posts I dislike greatly outnumber their posts I like I unfollow them. There's no need for all this drama.
BTW@dabbe I see you as an asset to Litsy with a high ratio of good posts. Keep on being you.2d
Kristy_KI have loved all your posts and knowing that there are people who still care and are as passionate as I am. Don‘t stop posting 💛2d
CentiqueI for one appreciate hearing about who other Littens are, how their lives are going and how they feel affected by huge events around them. So that includes politics! If Litsy was only smiling faces that never showed anger or worry or pain - or spoke about politics - it would be like a forest of fake plastic trees (to quote Radiohead!) I‘m glad you made posts that were real! 💕👍🙌2d
VansaWhat?! Well, good riddance, you're a great presence on Litsy. And well, the personal is ALWAYS political,at this time of all times, all of us need to engage with politics. It's engaging with us anyway!2d
Jari-chan@dabbe What beautiful words! Yes, what a world that would be! 💖2d
dabbe@rwmg Boy, you said it: “no need for all this drama.“ Thank you for your kind words. They made my day. BTW, your #coffeeandabook posts are the highlights of my Litsy days. I always want to see not just the book, but the container and venue. 💙🩵💙2d
dabbe@Kristy_K Aww, you're so sweet! TY! I'll keep posting just for you! 💙🩵💙2d
dabbe@Centique And then we'd never even be able to see that forest through those trees! 🤣 Thank you for this. I like real, too! 💙🩵💙2d
dabbe@Vansa Boy, you said it! We can't escape it at all these days. That's why I share here--because Littens are highly intelligent people with excellent discourse. (plus a wee bit of bad-assedness mixed in! 🤣). Thank you. 💙🩵💙2d
AmyG@TheBookHippie It‘s not the just the difference in values, it‘s the lack of respect for someone else‘s values. I don‘t block…takes effort. I just ignore…takes no effort to just scroll by.1d
dabbe@AmyG@TheBookHippie ... So true! However, ... she wanted to send me a message: a slap in the face if you will. Well, the bruise was there yesterday, but it's already healing. ✊🏻💙✊🏻1d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks@dabbe I was blocked by one of your friends a while back. Out of respect I had made zero posts in response to their opinions over the last 4 years. And believe me, I had strong opinions. It was a blessing to me because I found out the real person she is, not the one she pretends to be and wants everyone to think she is. It is what it is!!(edited) 1d
lil1inblueReading is political. That's all I have to say. 💓21h
dabbe@lil1inblue And what you said is more than enough, my friend. Thank you. 💙🩵💙18h
dabbe@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I appreciate you sharing your perspective. I also try not comment on people's posts that I disagree with. People‘s online interactions don‘t reflect who they are in full, and sometimes distance can bring clarity. At the end of the day, we all have our own journeys and interpretations of events––good to see you‘ve found what works best for you. And thank you for your husband's and your service to this nation.18h
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks@dabbe you‘re welcome. 3 deployments and he would still be willing to go today if not for his stroke.18h
JenlovesJT47@AmyG I agree with you. If someone posts something I don‘t like, I just keep scrolling. So easy. I seem to lose at least 1 follower every time I post one of my Sweet Valley reviews and I don‘t get it. 😳 The entitlement is baffling. Can‘t imagine taking the time to block someone on Litsy of all places. We love you@dabbe !! 💙🩵💙13h
julieclairJust now seeing this. I‘m aghast.@dabbe@TheBookHippie@AnnCrystal@AmyG You have all been blocked?? This makes no sense. Y‘all are among the most supportive and caring people on Litsy! This makes me sad. I can understand unfollowing someone or blocking a hashtag if you prefer not to see certain posts, especially for mental health/stress/anxiety reasons. (Just like sometimes I can‘t even watch the news so I turn it off.) But totally blocking⬇️9h
julieclair(Con‘t) someone means you can‘t even interact with them about books! And if anything, shouldn‘t we all be striving to cultivate positive connections with each other through things we do have in common? How are we ever going to be able to pull ourselves out of this worrisome, crippling disunity if we refuse to even have conversations about a hobby - reading - we all enjoy?(edited) 9h
TheBookHippie@julieclair I have blocked three people for my safety or personal reasons in nine years. I however have been blocked by multiple people. It just is. I‘m more concerned about other things. ♥️9h
julieclair@TheBookHippie The thought of you having to block someone for safety reasons makes me even sadder. 😢 I admire your attitude of acceptance about it, and will try to take that to heart. You‘re right that there are plenty of other things to be concerned about. 💝9h
TheBookHippie@julieclair ♥️ currently trying to keep school breakfast & lunch free. People blocking me because I speak out about a president they love and I don‘t seems a bit silly. 🙃9h
AmyG@julieclair Thank you for your kind words. You are too sweet. I don‘t seem to be blocked anymore…I think just unfollowed. It‘s of no concern to me. I still follow those I like and respect.8h
AmyG@JenlovesJT47 I can never unfollow you….I‘d miss pics of your adorable son. I remember when he was born!8h
dabbe@julieclair Thank you, m'dear for such kind words. 💙🥹🩵 I was a bit bummed yesterday (hence the haiku) but not so much for being blocked as for this inability even to have intelligent discourse. And I did try the hashtag #ranttime to let people off the hook. 🤷♀️ New day, new focus. Onward and upward. We're in this and are fighting the best fight we can for better lives for ALL Earthlings. I now think of myself as primarily that. 🤣😍✊🏻8h
JenlovesJT47Where‘s President Whitmore from Independence Day when you need him?? 😆7h
BTW @dabbe I see you as an asset to Litsy with a high ratio of good posts. Keep on being you. 2d
I didn't take it personally, I just prayed for this person and was glad to know.
🐻👌🏼😘💖💝. 7h
