Bailedbailed

It's not often that I bail on a book that I've read the majority of - but the second half was unreadable for me. What began as a strong and interesting premise became a slog to read. Trudging through a fever dream just isn't my cup of tea, I guess - so this one is a bail at 75% completion.

BarbaraBB I felt the same. Bought it for the cover 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1mo

I have stacks and stacks of books I brought home from my last trip to Arizona leaving son at his university. I‘m now slowly entering them into my book database. Here are two of the nonfiction books I bought. I swear Arizona is a book lover‘s mecca.

KCofKaysville @Texreader I was looking up national book chains and two were active in Arizona beyond Barnes & Noble! 1mo

The Weather Detective, by Peter Wohlleben (2012, transl. 2018)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Premise: An exploration of how to get more out of one‘s garden by understanding it as part of the natural environment.

Review: This is a very good book that suffers because of its English translated title, which bears no connection at all to the book‘s content! Cont.

Mattsbookaday I have no idea what they were thinking since it‘s a huge departure from its title in other languages and is very misleading. But taking the book for what it is, it‘s excellent, offering gardeners helpful information about not only climate and weather, but also about soil composition, animal sensation, and ecological balance. I‘m just not sure how it will find its audience with such a misleading title! 6mo

This was the March bookclub pick.
I don't really think it was for me.
It was quite uneventful in the beginning. Took a good 100 pages to get into it. Once the storm came through, it picked up. But was still just, meh.

Like I said, not for me. So I won't be rating this one.

#CoverStories

I missed out on reading this last year with #Naturalitsy so it‘s still in my TBR

The background is #Clouds from a somewhat recent neighbor island flight. ☁️🌥️🤍

Jess861 I'm so curious about this book. I took a course in climatology in university and it touched on clouds but didn't go into the depth I would have liked. Clouds are fascinating! 9mo

Interesting history of the deadliest hurricane in history, it hit Galveston TX. It‘s incredible to see how far weather prediction has come and how much there was to learn and understand something as “simple” as the wind.
Larson has a great way of telling the history and making it feel like a story. Excellent research involved I‘m sure.
