#MentalHealthMonday check in

#1. I‘m feeling anxious & overwhelmed. There‘re lots I want to do & I don‘t know where to begin. I wish I had a personal assistant to help me stay on track. 😩
#2. It depends on the affirmation, but overall I‘m not a fan. I especially don‘t like ones about money and success. Positive thinking is helpful tool in many situations, but it won‘t make us rich or solve all our problems. ⬇️

Kerrbearlib I only use positive affirmations if they feel sincere and realistic. A part of me already has to believe them. I like some affirmations from this book. Example: “I am self-defining.” I believe this, but sometimes I forget & must remind myself.

1w
CatLass007 I haven‘t had much sleep in the last three or four weeks. But last night I slept 2.5 and 1.5 hours, the most I‘ve slept in that entire time. It‘s still not enough but I hope I‘m turning the corner. I‘m skeptical about positive affirmations. I don‘t believe that we can “manifest” money or a good job. But if I‘m working to build different habits, improving my posture, for example, then I find they can help. 1w
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 that‘s great you were able to get more sleep. Every bit helps! I agree that we can‘t “manifest” money or good jobs. What things do you do to improve your posture? I‘m working to improve mine as well. (edited) 1w

CatLass007 I have a postit note at my computer and at other locations where I sit for extended periods with an affirmation that says “I have good posture.” It‘s a gentle reminder. 1w
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 I love that - maybe I‘ll try it too! 1w
CatLass007 I tend to beat myself up so in a situation like this I definitely believe in positive affirmations. 1w
TheBookHippie If I was close I‘d come teach you all my organisational things 🙃 my daughter wants me to teach a class and write a book. 1w
Kerrbearlib @TheBookHippie let me know if you write that book - I will definitely read it! 😀 What are some of your favorite organizational things? 1w
TheBookHippie @Kerrbearlib in January I make menus for the entire year for supper only. IF I‘m feeling out of control or overly anxious - Everyday before bed I write in my todo list pad of what tomorrow looks like or needs doing and all day as I go about my life I write down what I did, end of day I compare the two lists. Every thing has a place. If it doesn‘t I make one for it- or put it in weekend chores as a problem to solve. Controlling what you can helps. 1w
TheBookHippie Sorry for Amazon link but this is what I‘ve used for years To Do List Notepad - To Do List Notebook for Work with 52 Sheets, Undated Daily Planner Perfect for Enhanced Productivity and Goal Achievement - Serene https://a.co/d/3uK0awj 1w
CatLass007 @TheBookHippie I use a free app on my phone, conveniently called To Do. It allows me to create separate lists and it allows me to divide tasks into subtasks. I can use it to set tasks for a specific day and tasks can be set repeat daily, weekly, monthly, or customized. Very handy. (edited) 4d
CatLass007 Also, when a task is completed, it can be checked and then crossed off. It also makes a very satisfying “ping” when I do this. Just call me one of Pavlov‘s dogs. 4d
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 Due to migraines I use phone little as possible 🙃 but it sounds wonderful. 4d
CatLass007 @TheBookHippie I get migraines too but my neurologist gives me Botox for prevention. But I still try to limit my phone use. 4d
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 No not like that. I have complex hemplic migraine syndrome. No pain. Auras and stroke like symptoms. I‘m glad Botox works for you. It‘s not an option for me. I have multiple medication allergies as well. (edited) 4d
CatLass007 @thebookhippie Oh no. Stroke like symptoms sound scary. I‘ve never had auras but I know someone who does. Her migraines always start with auras, which she liked the first time she had one. But when it moved on to pain she didn‘t like it all. She always has an aura before the pain which gives her advance warning so she can take her migraine med before the pain starts. She only gets about one a year though. I think I could live with that. (edited) 4d

I‘m not sure I entirely agree with this assessment, but this is where we are. Blue was also strong.

Jari-chan I got my favourite colour - purple 💜 and it really fits! 2w
TheLudicReader Thanks for taking part! 2w
Ruthiella I think red might be the thriller/mystery element. But for sure, there‘s a lot more that goes into why we read what we read. (edited) 2w

5feet.of.fury I really thought I would get red 😂 I was explaining to a friend (who I otherwise have alot of overlap with for reading preferences) that I can‘t read cozies. High stakes or nothing. But I got orange 2w
Susanita @Ruthiella I think that‘s definitely part of it. @5feet.of.fury I don‘t mind cozies but can‘t read them all the time. 2w

Mehso-so

I recently read an article where a congressperson said that if you want to know what it‘s like to work with Trump then read this book. Well then…

It‘s not surprising that a representative would recommend this; like most of them, it‘s just sorta blah. The way it throws ‘psychopath‘ around so freely feels like a misnomer—according to the authors my boss is a psychopath when I‘m pretty sure he‘s just an a****le.

1. All things considered, I‘m feeling okay today.
2. Music always helps my mental health.
3. I‘m such a nerd, I listened to the LOTR soundtrack.

DebinHawaii I find I like “medieval lofi” when I‘m reading & songs from the LOTR soundtrack come up often. 🤗 2mo
Kerrbearlib Late response again. I LOVE the LOTR soundtrack! My husband is a huge LOTR fan. We played music from the soundtrack in our wedding. I get a little teared up when I hear The Shire now. Such beautiful music. 2mo

“Verbal abuse is like a cloud that can descend not only upon a family but also upon a nation. Dictators and tyrants have gained power by disparaging people, while their behavior went unnoticed by whole populations. By both directly accusing and blaming or by implication, they defined and denigrated others to create fear and false beliefs and thus gain power.”

LoverOfLearning Been sick for a month and in a massive reading slump. Just started another round of antibiotics and steroids. Ick. I can't focus on read and can barely listen to an audiobook. Ugh. But yes music is essential to me. And my dad is a drummer in a small local band. :) 2mo
