I still have about 4 hours left but I think I'm taking the weekend off from this book-knowing what's about to happen. Hoping to catch myself back up on life & Litsy this weekend.📚

2: The Slake Moths - Slake Moths mesmerize you with their wings then eat your consciousness, but their wings don't work when reflected so the city of New Crobuzon has a team of hunters with their heads literally turned around backwards who see where they're going with mirrors. #NightmareFuel #SeptemBowie

1: The Alzabo - Not only are they freaky to look at, but after they consume a human they gain some of their memories and THE ABILITY TO REPLICATE THEIR VOICES! Adding to the horror is that some people hunt them then eat human brains in alzabo gland soup to experience dead people's memories. #NightmareFuel #SeptemBowie

I am a fan of Joyce Carol Oates, but this book was beyond anything that I could stomach. Based on the real serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer, It is the only book I DNF. When I saw today's prompt for #septembowie, I decided to use it for both yesterday's and today's prompt. #icantread #scarymonstersandsupercreeps

The very first image that scared the hell out of me as a tiny kid was from the video for Another Brick in the Wall. It‘s still a powerful image almost 40 years later.

More recent super creeps from books my children voted for are Voldemort and Miss Trunchbull. They stayed on task - I went off on a tangent with music videos. Oh well Bowie would understand 😂

Finished this earlier for the #readingenvyreadalong but forgot to review. It's a reread for me & I still find it fascinating. There's something unnerving about how these people could easily become #scarymonstersandsupercreeps. Dionysian energy or fate? That's the dark heart of the book. There's no psychologising about why they turned out this way & how they could do what they did. In essence, very much like a Greek tragedy. So good. #SeptemBowie

I think Joe definitely qualifies as a super creep!!!

Myrdraal, also called Lurks or Halfmen are eyeless, pale "men" in black cloaks who move like the wind on black horses, have mad sword skills & can smell magic. Trollocs are half men half animals, blended in the dark caves under Shaitans mountain by the Forsaken, Aes Sedai who have betrayed their vows to serve The Dark One.
