There's one aspect of this book that kinda ruined it for me (downplayed SA). But other than that aspect I really enjoyed it. Might have been my favorite mellick book if it wasn't for that.

This book is ridiculous from start to finish. It starts strongly as we learn about Sly Guy‘s unique family. The story ends on a somewhat dark high note as the reader learns about the aftermath of this Christmas adventure and its effect on Sly Guy‘s family life. The issue is there was a pretty significant amount of material in the middle that I was just forcing myself to make it through. Overall, it‘s unique enough for a weak recommendation!
For Native American heritage month I read #WCCPBA Powwow Day by Traci Sorrell. We watched a couple of videos about Powwows because about 30% of my students indicated no knowledge of what a powwow is. They LOVED this https://youtu.be/eI2gnTZh0-I?feature=shared
December TBR.
Adding A Boy Called Christmas as well.

“Amos had a lot to do at the zoo, but he always made time to visit his good friends.”
I love reading this book because it‘s silly and shows true friendship throughout the book. The kids always love it because it‘s unrealistic as far as the animals go but has true friendship.
A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Phillip C. Stead was published in 2010 and won The Caldecott Medal in 2011. This was a story about a zoo keeper who always made time to spend individual time with all his animals at the zoo. One day he got sick and couldn‘t make it to work. The next thing he knew the animals arrived at his house to take care of him out of the kindness of their hearts.
I enjoyed reading this story because it is a fun read with lots of meaning behind it. I would share this book with my students because there are lessons to be learned about friendship and kindness in the story.
A Sick Day for Amos McGee won the Caldecott Medal in 2011. This story is about a man who has animal friends that he takes care of everyday. The man, Amos, feels sick one day and does not make it to see the animals, so instead the animals come and take care of him. I thought the illustrations of the animals were realistic looking and gave a sense of reality to the story.
