I love that book very much so far! Unputdownable!
Some #lunchtime reading today. About halfway through and still love it. Looking forward to the #buddyread discussion very much!
Bought a book today. I've heard that the Netflix series is even better than the book but I don't have Netflix and chances are, I'll never watch it. Bought the original, English version. Will report back...
Started the July #buddyread book this weekend. Enjoyed it this Sunday with spaghetti aglio olio peperoncini and a glass of red wine for dinner. So far I like that book very much and I don't see why it gets so many negative reviews. I find it hard to put down, to be honest.
My recommendations from #modernmrsdarcy: Indeed, To Kill A Mockingbird is already on my TBR list. And I've thought about reading Wild after loving the movie so much. And now I will check out how accurate the other 3 are....
So according to the quiz at #modernmrsdarcy I'm an explorer. The description is quite accurate I'd say. Take yours here www.modernmrsdarcy.com
Thought I was in for something very light and distracting. Didn‘t expect much when I picked it up but it was surprisingly good! Yes there was that one or other cliché… but overall this was a compelling read. And the ending was kinda mind-blowing. Just when you think the story‘s over, there comes the epilogue . Wow! Left me open-mouthed and thinking…
Hot-tempered boy meets selfish girl, they fall in love, girl marries another. Boy becomes bitter, destructive, abusive, vicious. That‘s how I saw that book, which surely is the unpopular opinion. Sorry. Maybe, listening to the audiobook wasn‘t a good idea. It‘s one thing to read people constantly throwing insults at each other but another to hear it spoken out loud. Everyone hated everyone. Some good moments but not enough to like it thoroughly.
#audiowalking on a beautiful sunny day - the last bank holiday before October. Getting deeper into the story, liking it more and more.
Page 134 of Wuthering Heights for #TeaserTuesday @Tiffy_Reads I'm actually not that far into the book yet. But I'm glad to say I am starting to like it better and better...
Continuing with the classics. This one I have in my TBR stack for ages. Bought the paperback in a cute little book shop in Barnes (London) some years ago. Since I'm an audiobook addict now, I'm listening, not reading. But you can never go wrong with such a book gracing your shelf 😉 However... I'm 5 chapters in and not yet fully convinced that I'll love it. Need more time...
I'm one of *those* people: never read an Agatha Christie book before & know nothing about who's "the best Poirot" in movie/tv. All I know is that a remake coms to theatres in Nov! But before I HAD to check out the book. Thoroughly enjoyed the (German) #audiobook. Loved the old-fashioned way of telling a good crime story. No blood and horror needed. Loved the character of Poirot and his wit and humor very much!
I've finished book #3 and #4 of the Cemetery Of Forgotten Books series but it looks as if the English translation of book #4 is not yet out in the UK/US?!? Can't find it. Whatever the case: do youself a favor and check out this series. If you've loved The Shadow of the Wind, you'll love the others. If you don't know that one, CHANGE THAT! Zafón is a GENIUS! These beautiful books are among my absolute faves now.
I hardly ever re-read books. This one was an exception since I‘m reading my way through the Cemetery Of The Forgotten Books series. It‘s been 8 years since I read the printed book. Became one of my faves. Now I‘ve checked the audiobook and fell in love with it even more. Zafón is a MASTER with words and creating rich, detailed stories and characters and magic. If you haven‘t read that book yet, what are you waiting for? Now on to the next.
Nothing better than going on a little #audiowalk (well, 3.8 miles) while listening to a wonderful story. Have I ever mentioned how much I love that book??? Near the end now. Thank God there are two more in the series. #audiobooks
@Kalalalatja those are tough! But let's see:
1. Very hard... but I'd still go with 'never'.
2. Both is INACCEPTABLE but I'd say dog ears. Very very tiny dog ears...
3. Dust jacket off
4. Not into poetry at all so... short stories
5. B/w
#bookishwouldyourather
Re-reading one of my favorite books of all time. I'm in the process of reading all 4 books of the "The Cemetery of Forgotten Books" series. I'm in love with Carlos Ruiz Zafón's writing style.❤️ #audiobook #germanedition #derschattendeswindes
#meetthelittens
thanks @maich
1. From a Two-Story-Town in Germany
2. Impossible to name just one. “The Corrections” by Jonathan Franzen is one of them
3. Harry Potter | Twilight (yeah I know)😉)
4. Fight Club | Out of Africa
5. Game of Thrones | Sopranos
6. Foo Fighters | Lee MacDougall
7. Red
8. Like almost everything except sci-fi and lovey-dovey
9. Assistant to the HR manager in Automotive company
10. Not anymore. Used to have two kitties
Loved that book!!! In contrast to several others I loved the mystical elements very much. Carlos Ruiz Zafón has a way to write that - to me anyway - is magical. I get totally lost in his storys and characters. Want to read the complete series of course. Started with part 3 but decided now to re-read part 1 -The Shadow of the Wind.
#audiowalk on a warm Sunday afternoon. About halfway through with the book and it's really good. Zafon certainly has a way with words. Beautifully written.
Part 2 of the now 4-book-series that began with the most awesome The Shadow of the Wind, one of my most fave books of all time. Very curious how the story continues! #audiobook #audible #germanversion
Eleanor, 30, accountant, single, no friends, lonely, speaks in a very formal way, has no social skills, irritates people with her strange way of communicating. An odd-ball. But there‘s a reason for this, based in her childhood, that unfolds very slowly. Along with what‘s up with “Mommy” and how an unexpected encounter helps her coming out of her shell. A good book that has some lengths and an ending that came too quick. Still liked it a lot.
Saw these two at Hatchard's book shop at St Pancras station in London the other day. Not only am I the proud owner of a wonderful Mr Darcy bag now, but I'm also set for July's #buddyread. Double yay!! 😍
I'm well aware that I'm in the minority but... that was not 'my' book. I can't join in with all the others who loved it so much. Started out good with the friendship of the boys and what awful thing Amir did to poor Hassan, but fell flat in part two to a point where I thought it was even boring. Never got really close to characters, hardly ever got emotionally involved. For whatever reason. Sorry. German #audiobook version was narrated VERY well.
Have long debated with myself before starting this one. It's just that so many people and everyone I know who has read it, loved it so much. We'll see. #audiobook #audible #germanversion #drachenläufer
I'm currently in London. Unlike my sleepy neighborhood in Germany where I come from, there are book shops here basically at every street corner. No way to not go inside whenever there's one on our way. This rather small one with a less mainstream selection than the big ones is on Brick Lane in the wonderful and lively East End. #bookshop #London #ilovebookshops #booklove
Touching. Educating. IMPORTANT! Everyone needs to read that book!!! Thanks to @acthomasbooks for writing this masterpiece ❤️Looking forward to our #buddyread discussion.
I've also listened to the #audiobook, brilliantly narrated by Bahni Turpin. Added even more realness to the story! If you're into audiobooks, check tis one out!
Took this book with me to London, read it on the plane, on the tube, in my apartment with a glass of wine... there's no way to put it down. Halfway through and it's hands down one of the best books I've read in a long time. Oh Khalil... oh Starr... ❤️ #buddyread Thinking about getting the #audiobook as well. EVERYONE, PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!
Coffee, chocolate, candles - I'm all set to start with my very first #buddyread. I'm very ecxited and also very curious about the book and what the fellow buddyreaders think of it. I've heard only good things about it so far. To everyone who's participating: enjoy!! 😊
Started this one yesterday. #ausible #audiobook narrated by the wonderful Claire Danes. Needed to also download the ebook though as a "help". Understanding this spoken text is not as easy as I had hoped (I'm German) after listening to The Hate U Give to easily. Anyway: so far I love this one and envy you guys who can watch the show on Hulu starting today (yesterday?)
Compelling. Nerve-wracking. Un-put-downable. The author manages to let the horror happen in your head while reading. Unlike some other readers I liked that not all questions were answered. Leaves you thinking and coming up with your own conclusions. Awesome book!!! Thanks @Jinjer for the recommendation 👍🏼
Since my dear friend @Jinjer recommended this one, I started today. #germanedition #audiobook from #audible. Halfway through, so far so good. Really unnerving at times 😑
What can I say about a book that has not been said by so many others who love it. This has become an instant favorite. Story, characters, wit, humor, irony, style, that use of language, that BRILLIANT dialogue... Darcy... I'm madly deeply in love. Had to rewatch the movie right after. Had to download the English language #audiobook. Have to re-listen... re-read. Need a break now before starting something new, that's how much in awe I am ❤️
Can't be bothered to stop listening to this wonderful book. #audiobreakfast #audiobook #audiobooklove #prideandprejudice #janeausten
So I bought this very cute #germanedition mini hardcover of #prideandprejudice recently, but now decided to listen to the #audiobook nevertheless. But isn't that a beautiful little book? Interestingly, this edition (2014) and the audiobook (2005) are different translations. Not sure yet which I like better. As for the book so far: ITS BRILLIANT! I'm in love! ❤️ Anyone surprised? 😉 #janeausten
Five looong hours until my new #audible credit arrives and I'll be finally back in listening mode. Thank God it's a out-for-dinner with the aqua-gym girls tonight so the wait won't be sooo long 😉 #audiobookaddict Next up a classic: #prideandprejudice #austen
Shortly after I stared reading I said that all characters were unlikable. Gotta change that now. First of all they are human. I think Boyle portrayed typical human nature quite well. Kinda could see the places where they came from, even the irritating ones. Some characters were more featured than others, would've liked a bit more insight into the others as well, found them a bit underwritten. Overall a good book! Some may hate the ending. Not me.
There's not a single sympathetic character in that book so far. What doesn't mean it isn't good. Typical human behavior. And we all know, humans can be idiots. I like the changing chatacter perspectives. I suspect some serious drama coming up.
Currently on page 126, so far so good. But I had to interrupt reading for running errands, going for a walk, polishing nails and making this salad. Doesn't happen when you're listening. So: next time back to #audiobook I am.
Let the reading weekend begin! #theterranauts #dieterranauten #germanedition #weekend
Still sealed... waiting for me, to be opened and read this upcoming weekend. After tons of #audiobooks I'll actually read a printed book again. Can't wait for a relaxing weekend reading on the couch #TheTerranauts #TCBoyle #germanedition #DieTerranauten
A friend who slowly creeps into your life and begins to influence your decisions, your personality.. your whole life. But what's real and what's fiction? An extraordinarily great book. I'm referring to the #germanedition #audible #audiobook. Awesome narrator added even more intensity!
“Gil Coleman looked down from the first-floor window of the bookshop and saw his dead wife standing on the pavement below.” is what I'd call a very promising first sentence". Thought it was very well written and became more and more of a page-turner (at least figuratively speaking because I listened to the #audiobook). Sinister and with the one or other twist and turn, I definitely recommend this book.
