I finished my November #TBRtarot pick.
The interactions between Evie and The Villain were delightful. This book had magic, action, romance and a mystery. Many great characters and laugh out loud moments.

Sunday morning ahhhhh 😍
In a turn of events that's become unusual recently, I actually finished my planned book yesterday! So today I'm back into this one.
(Go Broncos! 🤞🏻🏈🐴)
#WhereAreYouMonday
I'm in a ficticious world. I'm only in the first chapter but I already love the interaction between Evie and The Villian.
@Cupcake12
I‘d heard lots about this book and was not disappointed as I ended up loving it!
Evie is always cheerful and happy and ends up in a new job role as ‘Assistant to the Villain‘. The Villain comes across as grumpy and evil. One problem, Evie develops a crush on her hot boss. They work together to solve who is causing chaos in their kingdom.
The characters are perfectly balanced with a great selection of good and evil.
I‘m in Rennedawn, a fantasy village that is the location of this book. I‘m half through this and can‘t name my mind up if I like it yet 😂
Have a great day everyone 👍🏻
Starting this tonight. I‘ve heard mixed reviews so thought I‘d try it out first myself 📚
A story based in medieval times with modern language. Skip the pain of reading writing like Charles Dickens *puke.* Also enjoy some fantasy without having to make a flow chart *cough GOT cough.*
Random pick read Sept 4 💜

Dinner & reading. Sloppy Joe made with lentils and topped with pickled red onion & cabbage. Ginger peach sparkling water was a winner.

Anyone ever do this? I opened up my book and saw chapter 2 thinking I‘m further than chapter 2, what the heck?! Oh that is chapter 11 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I guess I‘m tired this afternoon. 🤦🏻♀️
I am enjoying this book so far.
Well that was ridiculously fun! Evie is in dire need of a job in order to support her family when she meets the much feared Villain and is hired as his assistant. She throws herself into the job because it important to do a thing well ,not because the Villain is so unfairly handsome. When his life appears to in jeopardy Evie goes all in on the investigation because that is what a good assistant does. A great light hearted, cozy read.
My first ever audiobook! Excited to try it out and hoping it‘s a good read. I‘ve had a few duds the last books I‘ve picked up. Fingers crossed! #fantasy #romantasy #givemesomethinggoodplease
This was a surprisingly good book with both likeable characters and a fun storyline. A little bit of action, adventure, and magic mixed in with a dash of romance and humor. Assistant to the Villain was a quick read that left me ready and wanting for more. Bring on a sequel!
Side note: I didn't absolutely love the narrator for this #audiobook; however, she had some really great moments interspersed between the more dull and robotic ones.

Just finished ✔️ Assistant to the Villain 🦹 and loved it! It‘s a cute, funny, and unique story. Can‘t wait for the next book in August! 💜❤️
I‘m so glad I stuck with this one, and now I need the sequel! For the first few chapters on audio, I was really not liking this. But as soon as I switched to print the characters really came to life. I love how much of a badass Evie is while also being cute and lusting over her boss. And the Villain‘s inner monologue is really cute too. The book is campy and fun and at times gross (just for shock value) and has heart. 💗 But what a cliffhanger!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was in a bit of a reading slump when I came across Maehrers debut novel. It is a slow burn romantic comedy that touches base on some deeper themes:. grief, betrayal and misogyny. I enjoyed that comedy was woven into these themes (I tend to use comedy to process grief). This book got me out of my reading slump and I am looking forward to the next two books in the series.
Awww! @Branwen is so thoughtful, she sent me an early birthday present! 😊 I love the bookish puzzle and the Funkos (the Joker one reminds me of seeing Batman ‘89 in the theaters when it first came out)! The tagged book has been getting a lot of love on Litsy, so that will probably be the first one I read, but all these books look so good! 🤩📚 Thank you, Branwen, you are one of the kindest people I‘ve ever known! 🤗
The two characters banter is what saved the book for me. Otherwise I thought it was overhyped. I was confused a lot of the time what the Villain‘s work office space was doing. Or that Evie was okay with that, just because she finds him gorgeous. Off on the wrong foot, as I expected a slow burn where they didn‘t like each other at first. Both simped from the prologue. The ending quarter was amazing better and twisty. Not sure I‘ll follow up
This is the book that got me out of my reading slump. It was a cute, fun, and romantic fantasy. I hope Kingsley the frog gets a bigger role down the line. 😂
I liked this way more than I thought I would. I am extremely upset that it ends on a cliff hanger and I have to wait years for the series to finish.
Evie takes a job with the man known as the Villain in her kingdom and ends up loving her job for more than the steady pay check she desperately needs. While she tries to deal with romance she will also have to catch the person betraying them all.
5/5 read for a slow burn romance & fantasy fun
This book was everything I wanted it to be I had all the feels for it and I can‘t wait for the next by this author… loved every word and how they developed for this story
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Started off a strong read. A cute, darkly comic Fantasy RomCom. But at about 40% it began to drag. By 50% I couldn‘t believe the book wasn‘t over, at 65% I was checking the page count. Perfect example of “less is better” A lot of unnecessary chapters that did not drive the main plot of “who is trying to kill the villain?” This could easily have been 100 pages less and a 5 ⭐️ read. Long winded but cute. I won‘t be continuing the series.
Had to bail at the 4 hour mark. The narrator bugged me and the text sounded too much like a first draft with no editing for my ears. It had no smooth flow to it.
(More to come.)
Hoping to finish 1 more book during our mini getaway.

I dnf'd this book at 49 because it was putting me in a reading slump, so I had to take drastic measures. It's not that it's bad per se, just that maybe it wasn't for me at this moment. Hope I can pick it up in the future.
Silly and so much fun, this world with dragons and brooding villains comes to life through the eyes of Evie. She brash and funny and doesn't seem to mind the evil deeds her boss does each day. Don't overthink the plot and it's completely entertaining and similar in tone to Legends & Lattes. The supporting characters are a treat. There's a sequel in the works and I can't wait to read it.
I knew nothing about this book before listening to it. I just thought it looked fun and quirky and I‘d heard a couple of people vaguely mention it. I didn‘t see any of the TikTok stuff until I looked it up later. I recommend going in fresh if you can. I loved the voice, found it really funny, silly, ridiculous. It just felt like my kind of book 🤷🏼♀️ I‘m looking forward to more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When Evie accidentally gets a job working for The Villain, she‘s alarmed at how quickly torture sounds and severed heads became a normal part of her workday. She finds herself in the crosshairs of The Villain‘s feud with the King more than once but she trusts that her boss will pull her out of the fire.
It‘s cozy, it‘s ridiculous, it‘s hilarious, and I can‘t wait for the second one.
Who‘s the villain here? Gatsby? Ozzie? Me?
This is somewhere between so-so and pan for me. When my sister was talking about this book to me she said it's almost like The Princess Bride, you either love it and all it's cheesy glory, or you hate it. I have no clue which side I'm on, but I understand both. It was almost painful reading parts of the story because they are stereotypical, immature, or cheesy. The "twists" were predictable, poorly foreshadowed, and thrown in far too often.⬇️
Rereading this delightful book and stumbled upon the villain being unnecessarily attractive and relatable. He‘s so hot… 🥵
Finally the weekend📚☕️. I set a small reading goal this year, 24 in 24!! #wishmeluck #24books #weekendvibes
What a fun and unique read. I absolutely loved this! A woman looking for work to support her family finds herself working for someone evil and she loves it. Chaos ensues and I loved the twist at the end. I cannot wait for the next book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really loved this book! This I didn‘t think was my typical genre but looking over my 2023 reading list…I‘ve kinda dipped in to the romantacy genre 🤭 This book was super cute & I absolutely loved the character Evie she felt so relatable to my social emotions! The storyline was great with surprises & that ending! Gosh I‘m ready for book 2 now (not due until Aug 😭). Definitely anxiously awaiting the next installment!

Second on my bookstore crawl today was Looker Books in Coatesville, PA. It was awesome! I got to talk to the owner while I was there and she is soooo nice and (of course) bookish. I bought Red, White and Royal Blue, a pretty notebook, and the attached book which she recommended since I liked Legends and Lattes. I told her about Litsy so maybe she‘ll join too! But either way her store is cozy, cute and full of books and puzzles. I recommend a trip!
Time to catch up on my reads over the past 4 weeks. I continue in a bit of a slump. I thought lighthearted books were the ticket while dealing with some heavy stuff, but I think now it was a mistake. The fluff isn't engaging me and making me want to get back to the books. I plan on picking up some more substantial reads when we are on winter break in a couple weeks. We'll see if that's the ticket. This was cute and I liked it, but didn't love it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫This book is so tricky to review. I had a great time reading it, and I did really like the story. Was it well written? Not really. Especially at the beginning I almost quit multiple times. But I do think her writing got better as it went on, and by the end I was hooked. So 3.5 stars seems a good middle ground. And I‘ll be honest-the romance is cute, the side characters are fun, the magic is interesting, but I stayed for the frog in the crown.
Forgot to post my #readingbracket for November. Read a lot of really good books in November, but I think the tagged book is my favorite. I‘m excited to see what it‘s up against in December!
4.75/5 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌖 A quick and fun read. I love the world it was set in and the romance. Only downside is that it has a cliffhanger and the next book comes out next September.
I surprisingly loved this book! I loved the world and the type of time period it was sent in. I don‘t know why I didn‘t realize it was going to be in a fantasy world, but I loved this.
Though, I need to realize that books are series and will end on a cliffhanger. Because I was shocked to find out the book ended how it did!
Now to wait forever for the next one. 💚
Continuing Sunday afternoon quiet reading time with this pick — I hear good things, so hope it‘s a good one!
I love and hate this book! Loved the unique take on this trope but I thought it was a one off and now I hate it because I have to wait for the next in the series!! Argh!
