I enjoyed it until the end and then I was completely over it. Too cliche, unlikeable main character. I know Kate's mother has just passed away but I sort of wanted her to pass too.

I really felt like this could be non-fiction. Evelyn is an amalgamation of a number of stars of yesteryear but she felt real and fleshed out to me. I loved her, I cried with her, and I got angry with her.

Interesting premise but the plot took a few too many liberties for me to believe it. Ironic considering the premise is about being honest.

I'd never heard of this Reign of Terror on the Osage before picking up this book and I was shocked. Fascinating history and I'll always remember thinking, upon looking at his picture, "yup, he looks like the kind of guy who'd do something like this."

Not Moriarty's strongest outing by far but not terribly offensive either. I didn't see the big twist coming and that's refreshing but I can't say that I was thrilled about it either.

I found this one frustrating. These poor main characters had zero chemistry and instead of recognizing that, they insist on "do overs" throughout the entire book to move the plot along. Won‘t age well with the number of current pop culture references either (my pet peeve). Wonderful supporting characters kept me going though.

Catching up on old reviews: Frightening & convincing. There's really not any new bombshells that haven't been revealed before or that the news has already covered but I really took to Woodward's descriptions of the players. I felt like I got to know the personalities and how they interacted with the other members of the administration but I dislike any moment in my life that makes me feel bad people I've come to loathe. That happened... a lot.

A multi-generational saga about a Korean family set over the course of the majority of the 20th century. I didn't know much about the history of these people and really enjoyed this book. The cons are that it's long, occasionally felt it, and there are many, many, many characters. Some of which I didn't get enough information about and some of who's stories were cut off abruptly leaving me with resolution issues.

I fear I'm not in the majority with this review but insert eye roll here for this one.

Polly. She's horrible. She's a convicted murdered, skilled liar, first-class grifter, & an amazing f*ck. So great, in fact, that men abandon all hope & common sense falling madly in love with her. When she abandons her husband & child while on a family vacation, we're supposed to care why?

Contrived. Unbelievable. Tired tropes. Barely a decent beach read.

RebL And yet... now somewhat compelling. 😏 6y

SomedayAlmost I am a fan of the “unlikable” female character with secrets, As we see enough perfect moms on Instagram & Pinterest lol. 😉 but you would probably like her Tess Monaghan books better. She is also known for vivid, spot-on depictions of the Baltimore area, so folks from there might care more. 😉 But hey, to each her own. (edited) 6y

I will officially read anything that Celeste Ng writes from this day forward. Another wonderful, nuanced character portrayal that had me riveted. It had too many unresolved issues for my personal taste. I just wanted more. Ng is just so wonderful at creating real characters... no one is entirely good or entirely bad. I'll chew on it for awhile and if I figure out who's good and who's bad, I'll let you know.

I am never surprised to learn about the serious sides of comics but Steve Martin's memoir is beautifully written and concise. Not one to over inflate himself or his achievements. I found him deep and funny and highly philosophical.

Note: I listened to the author's narration on Audible and he's just a delight. Some one liners never get old.

I was expecting salacious and what I got was a look back at a man's life, the challenges he's faced, and how they've shaped him.

James Comey is compelling writer and his journey is full of humor, pathos, dignity, and candidness. I found myself liking him, as a man, a lot, understanding the moments that found him between a rock and a hard place, and a dutiful civil servant who put the country before himself to the best of his ability.

An enjoyable story that was day time only reading for this delicate flower.
