The Last Time I Saw You
The Last Time I Saw You: A Novel | Liv Constantine
39 posts | 51 read | 30 to read
The internationally bestselling author of The Last Mrs. Parrish follows that success with an addictive novel filled with shocking twists about the aftermath of a brutal high-society murder. Kate Englishs mother, Lily Michaels, is dead, the victim of a terrifying attack in her tony suburban Baltimore home. Barely keeping it together for the sake of her family, Kate is surprised and grateful to see Blaire Barrington, her old high school BFF, at the funeral. Thick as thieves from middle school through college graduation, the girls fell out on the morning of Kates wedding to the confident, arrogant Simon English nearly fifteen years before. Almost instantly the years of separation fall away, and Kate and Blaire slip comfortably back into their old roles. Kate, now a prominent heart surgeon, is the accomplished, anxious achiever, while Blaire, a bestselling mystery author, serves as her fierce defender against all enemies. And now more than ever, Kate needs Blaires loving protection. Lilys killer is still out there . . . and has begun taunting Kate with threatening notes sometimes accompanied by gruesome clues. Without any solid leads, the police investigation has stalled. As the messages become increasingly macabre, Blaire decides to take matters into her own hands, alienating friends and relatives with her relentless, almost accusatory questions. As Blaire pushes further, the danger for those around herincluding the increasingly unstable Kategrows. But will her relentless quest for the truth push herand Kateover the edge? In this second novel, told with the lightning pace of The Last Mrs. Parrish, Liv Constantine raises the stakes, creating an exquisitely tension-filled and absorbing tale of psychological suspense in which innocent livesand one womans sanityhang in the balance.

I seldom intentionally try to solve the mystery when reading a book, and try to just sit back and enjoy the ride. This is one of those books that automatically put my brain into solving mode. I didn‘t trust any of the characters and felt suspicious towards just about everyone. By the conclusion, I was right and wrong! And I loved it! There were unexpected layers and satisfying twists.

Definitely not my favorite of these authors but still worth a read in my opinion. It dragged at times in the middle but I was still interested in what was going on. The overall ending was predictable but the why and how wasn‘t to me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just finished listening to this audiobook. My third one this month!
The Last Time I Saw You was okay. It had good moments and meh moments. The pacing was decent, and the writing of a person being gaslit was great. But, I‘m pretty tired of the mental illness trope in thrillers. I‘m wondering if I should change genres for a bit?

I really enjoyed The Last Mrs Parrish so I was really excited to read this one and it just didn‘t live up to their first book. I felt like the storyline was so over complicated with way too many twists that really almost came out of nowhere. It was just okay for me - a quick read and entertaining but pretty hard to believe.

I enjoyed it until the end and then I was completely over it. Too cliche, unlikeable main character. I know Kate's mother has just passed away but I sort of wanted her to pass too.

Just trying on my new contacts and maybe getting some new glasses. I have to stop by the library on the way home though, and we all know where that leads. 😬 I have so many books out right now and I‘m going to take more out. I have to today, because it was just announced that our new government is putting a halt to library funding across the province. ☹️ I love the uproar but I hate how dispensable libraries are to some.

AmyG I just read this...and enjoyed it. (edited) 5y

A slow burn psychological thriller that has you questioning whether or not the main characters are sane or if they are losing touch with reality. After Kate‘s mom is murdered she begins receiving threats from the supposed killer. She heavily relies on Blaire, her estranged BFF to help figure out who close to her could be the killer and stalker. I was able to guess the main culprit early on but that didn‘t detract from the enjoyment of this novel.

The reviews are hot or cold on this one. I liked it though. Lots of suspense, suspects and tension. Kate's mother is murdered. The murderer may be someone close to her and Kate appears to be the next target. Her estranged best friend, a crime writer, returns to assist in solving the crime and reclaim their lost friendship. That's all i can say really without spoiling the twists and turns. A fun and anxiety producing read. 🐭🐭🐭🐭

Seems like a lot of people feel the same way about this book as I do-it was okay, but not great. The twist ending was surprising but felt forced and didn‘t make a lot of sense in context with the rest of the book. Loved The Last Mrs. Parrish though.

This one was a slow-burn for me and at times confusing. A lot of characters and a tad repetitive. A decent twist to the story in there though.

This is no sophomore slump for the Constantine sisters. I may even say this is even better than their first book, which I adored. Kate's tormentor is so twisted that I couldn't keep my eyes from bugging out at the sheer audacity displayed by the individual. In the end, I just felt sad for the person and if you read the book you will understand why. The plot twist is appreciated and it definitely makes the book that much better. So fantastic! ❤

Kate seems to have it all – an excellent career, a wonderful husband & daughter, a beautiful house, & she‘s an heiress to a large fortune. One night Kate‘s mother is murdered at home. After the funeral, Kate receives a creepy anonymous text message and to make matter worse, the police haven‘t found the killer yet.

It would have been a pick but the very end dragged on for me a little too much and I guessed what some of the twists were.

This one didn't do anything for me. The writing was not good-there were little/no conjunctions or connecting words, instead there were short, choppy staccato sentences and after a while, this is exhausting to read. The characters lacked depth and the story was completely underwhelming. The writers struggled with pace, and plot as a whole. Just when things seemed to get moving, there would be an abrupt shift in focus to tertiary characters.

This was a quick read and really kept my attention. The story was clever and had some brilliant twists. I figured some out but not all. The story builds to a big finish that was well written and interesting. I liked the ending it was an interesting take and fitted with the story. All the characters were interesting and brought more depth to the story. A great thriller that keeps you guessing.

A dead body, a threatening text, dead animals with a child‘s nursery rhyme attached, more threatening texts and packages, the return of a long-lost friend, and a confused, frightened family await the reader in THE LAST TIME I SAW YOU.

Who could have murdered lovable, charitable Lily? Why did Lily want to change her will a few days before she was murdered?

This was a very fast paced thriller that will keep you guessing until the end. This book starts with the death of Kate's mother Lily, and it appears to be foul play. Kate then starts to receive threats or is she. This book will mess with you mind and nothing is what it seems. Liv Constantine knows how to write a good thriller and this one does not disappoint.
