Yesterday kicked off the #TransRightsReadathon which runs through March 31. It celebrates trans authors and/or characters, and invites folks to donate to organizations that help protect trans rights or support and uplift trans folks. Yesterday was a travel day for me, so I spent my flight times enjoying these. Mostly focused on Deadendia (which spawned the Netflix show Dead End Park) because of flight anxiety. #TRR #Comics #LGBTQIA #AceStories

I had some gift money from my birthday and the holidays, so I decided now was a perfect time to buy a stack of LGBTQIA+ books I‘ve been wanting to collect. I‘ve already read all of these thanks to my local library. Also, I‘m going to have to go through The Book of Pride again. I read it on audio and didn‘t know there were photos!

My husband is obsessed with Howl‘s Moving Castle, so naturally we had to buy this beautiful box set when we found it. The covers are beautifully re-illustrated and each chapter starts with a fun illustration as well. I think it‘s only the third copy of Howl‘s (4th if you count the movie), the second copy of Castle in Air, and the first copy of House of Many Ways we own 😆

Bookzombie Those are beautiful covers. Somehow I have never read these. 1w

I'm gearing up for the #TransRightsReadathon! I don't usually pre-select the books I read, but I make a point to do so for this one each year. Join me in reading books with transgender, nonbinary, 2spirit, and gender non-conforming authors or characters from March 21-31. If you are able, please also consider donating to organizations like the Trans Lifeline that support trans folks. #Readathon #TRR

I picked this up because I happened to see it at the library and have been learning about being a kitchen witch. Dawn organizes this book so we'll and includes excellent explanations, anecdotes, and information. I have not tried many of her recipes or rituals, but I enjoyed the few I have. I also appreciate that the book starts with a focus on loving the self. #Magic #Witchy #KitchenWitch

I went in with low expectations for this beautiful guys piece, but it's pretty charming and the art's lovely. The tone reminded me of Native American animal stories where animal characters are often anthropomorphic. It was a bit weird that there were no female characters, which is common to this genre. I enjoyed seeing some of the chatacters' pasts already and hope the next volume dives into more world and character building. #manga #LGBTQIA

While I'm enjoying the daily tree for the #NaturaLitsy buddy read, I'm bailing on our #MidwinterSolace read after just 13 minutes listening. The author shared two classic pieces of bad advice as "good advice" including changing how you feel about your bad situation and looking at someone else's bad situation so you know yours isn't so bad. This is harmful in many contexts and encourage people to dismiss their lived experiences. @AllDebooks

Haru, a little blueberry-shaped bird, helps their best friend, a piglet named Yama, on an unexpected quest to do away with an immensely evil object. The pacing is a little off, but I absolutely love this first book. The characters are fun, the dialogue is charming, and the post-apocalypse setting is interesting. I enjoy that the characters don't fully understand their quest. The lighthearted but dark tone reminds me of Rice Boy.

This month's #WithTheBanned read is not gentle. It takes on internalized and external racism, generational trauma, and the harm of lack of diverse representation in media. It's a stunning read, but review the content warnings. The end includes an excellent afterward by the author that delves into her choice to explore these themes through the lense of such a traumatic, unaverage case. I was disappointed in what she equates homosexuality to.

I thought I‘d love this but it‘s definitely not the right book for me. 17% in and I feel irritated and confused. The scene with Yates and the deer in the pool was so unclear I couldn‘t tell if Yates was laying down asleep or sitting up and awake. The character relationships are all wonky, and things keep coming out of nowhere or continuing to be very unclear. I also kind of hate the characters, who are all a bit flat.

My last read of 2024! This office romance and healing journey is a fun read, and I enjoyed the characters. The story shows anxiety and deals with childhood trauma and ptsd as well, and the publisher setting was fun. I finally read this book (and in time for Halloween! I'm just a little behind in reviews). I grew up loving the movie and have been planning to read the book for a while. It was great fun reading lines that are word-for-word in the movie. The movie has slightly better storytelling. Bradbury does an amazing job as the movie's narrator. #Halloween #BookToScreen
