For ¾ or may be ⅔ of the book it was a slow burn of an interesting story then it switched dramatically to a fast paced thriller even a little scary. I enjoyed it.

I am fortunate to have visited Pompeii and Mount Versuvius. It is so hard to imagine the power of the volcano when you see the large distance between them. But there are the remains of the town and people still being unearthed till today.

I have climbed Souter Lighthouse (northeast coast of England) and seen the seals lounging on the rocks below. Recommended to visit.

I wouldn't recommend journeying to the lighthouse in PD James novel though! Fog and murder feature strongly.

Charles O'Brien is an Irish bard, a man of folklore and a giant. The poverty of 1780's rural Ireland leads him to migrate to London, to try to make a living from making an exhibit of himself.

A book of beautiful prose but still a quick read. The voices of different characters interweave and concentration is required!
