I had no idea Paulsen went for the Iditarod! He is amazing in that respect, making his wildlife adventures into exciting books!

This took me almost all month to read. I kept putting it down because I couldn't believe how unprepared he was and was sure there would be a disaster soon. But every couple of days curiosity would get me and I pick it up again. My last book for #MarchMadness Thank you @Andrew65 @DieAReader and @GHABI4ROSES for running this. It helped break my reading slump from last month.
So I‘m still in Iowa on vacation until the 4th so I don‘t have my full #WinterReadathon TBR but here are a couple of the holiday reads I‘m hoping to get to that I did bring with me plus the book I‘m reading that I‘ll finish tomorrow!
Just sharing some ideas for #Booked2023 the winter part. I am not sure at all about many prompts and some of them don‘t appeal at all. So I am in need of inspiration 😁
5 ⭐️ I haven‘t read an Iditarod account yet that I didn‘t love, now including this one! It‘s breathtaking. The author‘s relationship with nature and with the dogs is beautiful and it was thrilling to go along with him for the ride, so to speak, as he learns – often the hard way – how to go from running and caring for a small trapping team of dogs to handling a full racing team. He also gets bitten a lot and peed on. What‘s not to love?(See below)
My #wintersolsticeswap came at 7 am this morning not sure why I‘m getting mail this early but I‘m excited! @mcipher @sprainedbrain @Chrissyreadit
Well I haven‘t started my holiday stories with my students so you‘ll see a huge jump next week! I‘m hoping to work on some bingos and get some movies watched this week too! I read 10 books so far, 2 movies and a show that had a Christmas episode. I want to work on some other point grabbers too! #mistletoemaniacs #wintergames2021 @Clwojick

So sad to hear that this wonderful writer has died. This book, Winterdance, is one of my favorites of his. I‘ve read it several times and laughed through several sections each time. Learning how to dogsled is a wild and crazy experience. Deciding to run the Iditarod is even crazier. My boys really liked his books when they were young and we loved being able to learn and talk about all of his wilderness skills.
An absolutely amazing book. Gary Paulsen ran the Iditarod twice and this book is about his training of the dogs and his experience running his first race. It is equal parts LOL funny, terrifying and awe inspiring. A 5 ⭐️ read!
Since I knew little about the Iditarod beyond its being a sled dog race, I found this book very informative. Paulsen does an excellent job of editing the story of his training and the race to the most interesting and essential aspects. He also peppers his account with humor. NOTE: Contains some disturbing animal scenes.
This book so far has basically been Paulson getting lost and getting thrashed and getting sprayed by skunks and trying to figure out how to stay on his sled and train his dogs..... And it's fantastic. It's not convincing me to run the Iditarod anytime soon though. I think I'll just stick with my hot coco and warm blankets and my very unwolf-like daschund mix. 🤣🤣🤣❄️❄️❄️🐶🐶🐶
Picked this up from Powell's on a whim over the summer. Paulson, dog-sledding, Alaskan wilderness, survival, Man v. Nature v. Self. These are a few of my favorite things. And considering today is the first day of winter, it just feels right to crack this one open now.

Very good book. I especially enjoyed the buffalo slipping around, playing on the ice.

5 Stars.A wonderful survival story for YA reluctant readers. It is packed with adventure as the author describes his training and racing through Alaska in the Iditarod.
Day 3 of #12DaysOfXmasPhoto #Snow/Men how about men of the snow? Like those who participate in the Iditarod? Gary Paulson always reminds me of 5th grade - I definitely need to reread some of his works!
