Writing came off as mediocre and cringe at times, but the overall plot flowed pretty decently. The ending left me shocked and the author did a solid job of typing up all of the loose ends that were present within the story. However, would only recommend this book if you‘re desperate and just want something to keep you busy. Very hard to feel a genuine connection with any of the characters. Would honestly rate it a 4.5/10.. read at your own risk

I enjoyed this one. Good mystery read. Just started watching the Netflix special also, it‘s good, but like most book adaptations, it‘s not as good as the book.

A compelling and undemanding crime novel. I‘ll admit that this was a little less domestic than I‘d anticipated and the context threw me a little initially. But it‘s action-packed and propulsive. It asked for little from me and kept me entertained during a busy week. Looking forward to watching the Netflix adaption now.

Book vs the Netflix adaptation.
Both were really good, but they did change a bit with the series and I‘ve got to give it to Netflix, there‘s some storylines added and removed and I think the series did a better job fleshing out Cassie and Broome where the book gave more background in general.

The book is not a masterpiece but is a great twisty mystery with great characters and insight about love and the “American Dream”

I read this book in anticipation of watching the Netflix series. It was a very good book, but I don‘t think Harlan Coben can do any wrong. I liked most of the characters. I took me until the very last part of the book to find out “who done it”. I was truly surprised. Now, off to Netflix I go. I hope they do this book justice.

I will probably read the book later this month, but the series was REAL good. I‘ll be interested to see what they changed.

Blerdgal_Fenix Loved this series. I was on the edge of my seat. My friends want to read this book in the summer. 2y

A very soft pick. I‘ve always enjoyed the Harlan Coben Netflix adaptations although this is the first time I‘ve read before viewing. I‘ll likely stick to just viewing in the future. I figured out “who done it” probably 50% in so everything else felt a bit anti-climactic.

This brings me to 115 books for the year but I feel sort of disappointed if I end the year with this. 🤷🏻‍♀️

eanderson That‘s the worst feeling. I wonder if there is a good short story or something you could fit in really quick? 2y

This was a good read but felt longer and not so suspense laden as the usual Harlan Coben standalones. Also didn‘t feel as many twists although didn‘t get the killer unto, towards the end. That person though was staring you in the face when you think back.

Megan Pierce is a soccer mom with two kids and a perfect husband but a bit wild in her younger days. Ray Levine is a documentary photographer and at age forty he finds himself in a dead-end job. Jack Broome is a detective who is working on a cold case of a local husband and father who disappeared 17 years ago.

EadieB These are 3 lives that will crash together and their hidden secrets from the past will explode and they will find out that there is a fine line between one kind of life and another.
I have read most of Coben's books and I love his humor and wit. His characters are always very colorfully-filled with flaws and secrets. His plots are interesting with lots of twists and turns.
2y
EadieB This one was a bit of a slow-burner and could have been a bit shorter but it did keep me engaged. I was surprised at the killer but there were clues along the way. This book proved once again that Coben is the master of domestic suspense. I look forward to reading some of his other standalones that I haven't read yet. 2y

Always a safe bet to choose a book by Coben. Solid story, intriguing characters, and excellent writing! I usually don‘t root for characters like the ones in this book, but I just liked all the misfits in this book for some reason. Bad men, suspected dead, disappear in AC. An old case is opening up old wounds, and the past becomes the present.

Andrew65 About 25% through. 2y

It‘s been a while since I read one of Harlan Coben‘s books and I‘m glad I chose this one. The beginning was a bit slow but it picked up soon after. The story has several main characters so the POV changes with each chapter. I‘m looking forward to reading more of his books. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

After a good long period, I finally finished this book - whose title in English is Stay Close. I read it in French but the plot, twists and turns, were all well written, and I‘m happy I powered through. Cohen is a great Thriller author and I‘m always satisfied when I close another of his books. #fridayreads

RaimeyGallant The Stranger. I LOVE Harlan Coben, but this one was a really big stretch as far as the protag's motivations. 6y

In my opinion another excellent book by Harlan Coben, although this one felt a bit different to some of his others. I wouldn‘t put it as my favourite of his standalones but it was still a very enjoyable read with the twists you expect from Harlan - although I don‘t think there were quite as many twists as usual. Whilst he writes some great standalones, I will always prefer his Myron Bolitar series which is top notch. Loved the underlying theme!

TheWordJar I‘ve never read Harlen Coben before, but I always hear good things and I think I‘d enjoy him. Do you have a suggestion as to a book to start with? 6y
RebelReader I think Gone for Good and Tell No One were my favorites. Maybe because they were the first ones I read? (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @RebelReader Same for me The Woods is possibly my overall favourite because it was the first one I read. Love the opening scenes of that book. (edited) 6y

Andrew65 @TheWordJar I would agree with @RebelReader Gone for Good and Tell No One are two of my favourites too, but also loved The Woods and may just put that down as my favourite. Seem to remember Caught also being very good. He is one of my favourite authors. I especially like his Myron Bolitar Series (one of my favourite series) and would love to read them again. Those books and Myron make me laugh out loud with his one liners! 6y

Well here I am with book number 42 of my year and can I just say that I blame summer break for the slow down of my reading progress 😆as much as I love having my kids home with me...I can‘t seem to get enough reading time done. Oh well, one more month on break and then I‘ll have no more excuses hehehe this ones by Harlan Coben and I am quickly becoming a huge fan of his works!

Caffeinated_Reader Ka-BOOM!!! Mind blown for sure. This is one of my favorite books this year. I know I‘ve said that a few times but hey, it just is. The pace of the story was fast yet even and the bonds between characters were so strong and yet built on half truths and lies and yet still worked. It was beautiful and realish. I definitely recommend this book. The ending made me throw a fist in the air in spite of myself 😈 (edited) 6y

My second Coben, and I think I may be developing an addiction. This one revolves around a series of disappearances (murders?) many years apart, in Atlantic City, and the people busy remaking their lives or slowly destroying themselves in the aftermath. As well as the gripping (if a bit farfetched) plot and cast of characters I love the humour Coben sprinkles over proceedings when it all risks getting a bit too grim. Great fun.
