Just finished this killer thriller by Dea Poirier. Loved the atmospheric tension of the Maine island setting, and the history of sisters and their secrets. Serial killers are always interesting, and the author nails the claustrophobia that her heroine feels from the first chapter. QT reading continues! 🙌👏🥳

Loved this fun, cozy mystery! Set in LA and with a heroine you want to grab lunch/happy hour/binge CSI with, it‘s the perfect blend of laugh out loud moments and genuine mystery that keeps you guessing. I‘ve been meaning to review this for some time and I‘m glad to add it to my Litsy stack.

Thanks for the tag @elissadickey and the invite to my first #ISpy game! The challenge was #sisters and I love seeing these great book covers together (I‘m biased, but still)! 😬🧐☺️

Thanks to late night feedings and Quarantine-and-Chill, I raced through M L Huie‘s spy thriller novel, SPITFIRE. Heroine Livy Nash has the expertise — and flaws — to make for a compelling lead, one that I rooted for to the last chapter. Check 👏 this 👏 out 👏 #thriller #spythriller #quarantinebookclub

This book — the story of a new postpartum mom pursuing justice for her slain friend — ironically kept me company in the early hours with my new infant son. Tons of interesting detail here about postpartum psychosis, with a twist ending that will send you back to the beginning for a reread. Pick! 😍🍼👏🥳👀⛵️🕵🏻‍♀️😲

After a super busy summer of writing, I have news: MY BOOK IS ON NETGALLEY! If you‘re a book blogger or reviewer, I‘d love it if you requested to read! (Or weighed in on my cover with a 👍 or 👎) Cover art to arrive on Litsy soon! Meanwhile, here‘s my book‘s by-line:

In Paris, her twin sister has vanished, leaving behind three chilling words: Trust no one.

If you like #thrillers and #suspense, see the full blurb on #NetGalley. Thanks, all! #TBR

Interesting, well written book from 5-year-Old Jack‘s perspective! I read this book as research and a potential comp for my next novel, but have been meaning to read this for ages. The book, like the movie, didn‘t disappoint, and I was glad to see the arc of each character through Jack‘s consistent POV. Definitely some tough subjects involved, but Donoghue treats them with care.

Fun! A taut thriller with a great ending. Although I guessed the major twist about halfway through, I was invested and engaged the whole time. It‘s a slow burn, but a worthwhile read.

This book was incredible!! It was slow in the way that tugs at your heart strings and makes you think about the world, while it was fast paced in that the stakes were always high, and geeky in the way it reminded me of questions I used to wonder as a kid about magic and.... TIME TRAVEL. Really loved this book. Recommend!

Liatrek I got this in my B&N 50% off haul. I‘m looking for to reading one day 😊 6y

Suspenseful, if a bit formulaic, but I was a fan. Farrell‘s writing was crisp, the chapters were compact, and the characters were a leeetle under-developed but believable generally. Pick!

Definitely an interesting read! It was a pretty slow burn of a suspense but well written and engaging throughout. If you like small towns and long standing murder mysteries, this is a good one. As it happens I love my books with more twists so I‘d give this 3/5 stars, but a good rating nonetheless.

As I gear up to tackle my WIP, I did a quick (for me) read of this writer‘s classic. Stephen King is adept at breaking down the basic points of writing but then does us one better by demonstrating everything he espouses in this book itself. Genius. With a refresh on the rules of magic and telepathy, I‘m ready to dive in. 👍🤞👏

This memoir had everything: humor, like laugh-out-loud humor, a few scares, triumphs, and some serious inspiration for anyone that‘s ever struggled in art or the American dream. I had no idea who Jimmy O. Yang was before watching Crazy Rich Asians, but he is someone whose career I will always follow after this book.

Oh my! I loved this book. Its commentary on adoption, trans-racial adoption, and then living as a multi-cultural human in today‘s American climate are all reasons it blew me away. Bottom line: Come for the Korean-American raised by white family hook, stay for the excellent, insightful, honest, gripping writing.

Jilly6183 I just listened to a really good interview with the author on the podcast Call Your Girlfriend! Adding to my #tbr ! 6y

Just beginning this book and already sucked right in. She raises such essential questions about cross-cultural adoption, even while owning that her parents simply loved her regardless of skin color.

After a good long period, I finally finished this book - whose title in English is Stay Close. I read it in French but the plot, twists and turns, were all well written, and I‘m happy I powered through. Cohen is a great Thriller author and I‘m always satisfied when I close another of his books. #fridayreads

RaimeyGallant I just finished one of his, too. :) 6y
ellemarr @RaimeyGallant yessss which one? 6y
RaimeyGallant The Stranger. I LOVE Harlan Coben, but this one was a really big stretch as far as the protag's motivations. 6y
ellemarr @RaimeyGallant totally agree! I was more than a little perplexed at the end. 6y
RaimeyGallant Oh good, so I'm not the only one. The whole book, I was like, go to the police! 6y
ellemarr @RaimeyGallant no, seriously!! From the first chapter, I kept thinking “the next chapter, he‘ll go. They have to go.” 6y

Interestingly enough, my copy of LFE is signed by Celeste Ng, the author. She came to Portland last Fall and I bought a signed copy in exchange for 30 seconds of conversation. What a brilliant speaker and author, as evidenced by this great book! It took me a while to dig in (life, so busy!) but it was such a treat to consume. Themes are complicated but consistent in that family always comes with some questions. Give it a read!

Squidapus Squidapus got to hear her speak last year at the Boston Book Festival and it was very insightful 6y
ellemarr @Squidapus That‘s great! Lucky you. She‘s in Cambridge so you‘ll probably see her again before I do! 6y

For my first book review here on Litsy, I‘ve chosen This is Portland - a sweet, easy read that pays homage to my adopted city. It calls out the best quirks about Portland (read: What happens when 4 polite Portlanders arrive at a 4-way intersection at the same time), and offers fun historical tidbits I never knew. Give it a read if you‘re considering a visit!
